Overview

The Charger HydroSplash Reverse Osmosis Undersink Water Filtration System is designed to provide cleaner, safer drinking water by removing various contaminants. This system utilizes a multi-stage filtration process, typically a 4 or 5-stage system, to achieve high-quality water.

Function Description:

The HydroSplash system employs a comprehensive filtration process to purify water. The initial stages, Stage One (sediment filter) and Stage Two/Three (granular activated carbon filters), are responsible for removing larger particles like rust, sand, and other debris, as well as chlorine, odors, and foreign tastes. Stage Four, the advanced Reverse Osmosis membrane, is the core of the system, removing 95% of dissolved solids, including municipal water treatment chemicals, heavy metals like mercury and lead, and other undesirable substances. The final stage, Stage Five (post-filter), is a carbon polishing filter that removes any remaining foreign tastes or odors, ensuring the water is fresh and clean. The system also includes a storage tank to hold the purified water, which is then delivered to a dedicated faucet. A special faucet is installed on your sink, dispensing safe, great-tasting drinking water, which is also suitable for making coffee, tea, and ice cubes.

Important Technical Specifications:

The system is designed to operate within specific water pressure ranges. The ideal water pressure for the HydroSplash RO is between 40-psig and 75-psig. If the pressure is less than 40-psig, a booster pump may be required. If the pressure is too high (above 75-psig), a pressure regulator should be installed. The system is made with quality components and does not use chemicals.

The Pentair membrane 75 gallon per day reverse osmosis membrane is a key component. The storage tank is a 4.0 gallon total volume, 2.2 gallon water volume, with dimensions of 14in. long by 4in. wide by 16.5in. high. The system weighs 24 pounds.

The system is microbiologically safe. System pressure should be 40 to 100 PSIG. Temperature should be 40 to 100°F. pH range should be 3 to 10. Maximum TDS is 1500 PPM. Maximum Iron (FE) is 0.3ppm. Maximum Manganese (Mn) is 0.1ppm. Turbidity should be less than 1.0 NTU.

The system is certified to NSF/ANSI 58 for pentavalent arsenic reduction. It reduces arsenic (As(V), As(+5), or arsenate) at concentrations of 0.30 mg/L or less. It also removes pentavalent arsenic, but may not remove other forms of arsenic. The system is designed to be used on water supplies containing a detectable free chlorine residual, or on water supplies that have been demonstrated to contain only pentavalent arsenic. For arsenic with microbiological (non-chlorine) water supplies, it is recommended to ensure conversion of trivalent arsenic to pentavalent arsenic.

Usage Features:

The HydroSplash system is an undersink water filtration system, meaning it is installed beneath the kitchen sink, providing a dedicated faucet for purified water. The installation process involves connecting to the cold water supply, installing a drain saddle for wastewater, and mounting the RO filter unit and storage tank. A 7/8-inch diameter hole in the sink top is required for the faucet. For porcelain sinks, a special drill (7/8" Relton cutter) is needed.

The system includes an auto-valve that controls water flow. The feed water line, pure water line, and drain water line are color-coded for easy identification during installation and maintenance. Tubing connections are designed for quick and secure attachment.

Maintenance Features:

Regular filter replacement is crucial for maintaining the system's performance. The recommended replacement frequency for filters varies by stage:

  • Sediment Filter Element, Stage 1 (TF-4113-CHPL): 6-12 Months
  • Pre-Carbon GAC Element, Stage 2 (TF-4115-CHPL): 6-12 Months
  • Pre-Carbon Filter Element, Stage 3 (TF-4115-CHPL): 6-12 Months
  • RO Membrane Assembly, Stage 4 (MP-4235): 3-5 Years
  • Post Carbon Filter Element, Stage 5 (TF-4115-CHPL): 6-12 Months

For a 4-stage system, the replacement frequencies are similar, with Stage 2 and 3 being combined into a single pre-carbon filter element.

Filter replacement is a straightforward procedure that involves turning off the feed water, depressing the system, and replacing the old filters with new ones. The standard tubing connections are designed for easy disconnection and reconnection.

The system comes with a Two-Year Limited Warranty that covers defects in materials and workmanship for a period of two years from the date of purchase. The warranty does not cover damage resulting from accident, misuse, neglect, improper installation, or water pressure exceeding 100 lbs. per square inch.

Troubleshooting information is provided to address common issues such as no or low water production, leaks, bad-tasting water, and RO production falling off. Solutions include checking feed water shut-off, opening tank valves, increasing inlet water pressure, tightening connections, flushing the system, and replacing filters or the RO membrane.

The system is designed to be user-friendly for maintenance, with clear instructions for filter replacement and troubleshooting. The manufacturer recommends changing the pre and post filters once every year, and the Reverse Osmosis membrane every 3 years.
