Overview

This document is a user manual for Chase-Durer timepieces, providing information on their limited warranty, instruction, and care guidelines.

Function Description

Chase-Durer timepieces are designed to provide accurate timekeeping and may include various complications beyond basic time and date display. The watches are available with different movement types:

  • Quartz: Battery-powered movements that do not require winding. The battery will eventually need replacement, which should be performed by an authorized service center to maintain factory specifications and warranty.
  • Mechanical (Manual Wind): These movements do not require a battery and are wound by hand by turning the crown clockwise until resistance is felt. They should be wound daily.
  • Automatic (Self-Winding): These mechanical movements wind themselves through the motion of the wrist when worn daily, eliminating the need for additional winding. They can be hand-wound to start by rotating the crown clockwise. Housing an automatic watch in a watch winder box is recommended.

Important Technical Specifications

The manual highlights various watch complications that may be present on Chase-Durer timepieces, displayed on sub-dials, indicators, counters, or zones:

  • Small Seconds: An alternate to the sweeping center second hand, this counter continuously rotates to measure 60-seconds.
  • Hours: A chronograph function displaying elapsed hours, often in 12 one-hour intervals.
  • Minutes: A chronograph function displaying elapsed minutes, often in 30 one-minute intervals (sometimes 60).
  • Tenths of a Second: A chronograph function displaying tenths of an elapsed second.
  • 24-Hour (GMT/Second Time Zone Indicator): The hand of this counter makes a full rotation in a 24-hour period, indicating a.m. or p.m. and is often coupled with a Sun/Moon display.
  • Sun/Moon: Indicates a.m. or p.m. through a display of the sun or moon, often coupled with a 24-hour indicator.
  • Moon Phase: This display provides near-perfect synchronization with the lunation period and only requires adjustment every two and a half years if the watch never stops.
  • Power Reserve: Found on some automatic watches, this zone displays the remaining hours of autonomy after the movement has reached its winding peak.
  • Diver's Scale: Primarily found on the turning bezel of a dive watch, it allows tracking of elapsed time while submerged. It can also be found beneath the watch crystal and turned by a pusher.
  • Tachymeter (Tachometer): Measures the speed of travel over a given distance, frequently used to determine the speed of a car over a measured distance.

Water Resistance:

Chase-Durer watches are water resistant to varying degrees, adhering to ISO standards:

  • No water resistance: Avoid all contact with water.
  • 50 m (5 ATM): Safe for wearing around water, including hand washing, showering, recreational swimming, and minimal water contact. Not suitable for snorkeling or scuba diving.
  • 100 m (10 ATM): Suitable for light water activities like snorkeling, sailing, and surfing. Not suitable for scuba diving.
  • 200 (20 ATM): Suitable for water activities, snorkeling, and recreational scuba diving.
  • Over 300 m (30 ATM): Used for diving (or mixed-gas diving).

Many watches feature a screw-down crown to prevent water infiltration. To adjust time/date, the crown must first be unscrewed counterclockwise until it springs open, then pulled out to the first or second click stop position. After adjustment, it must be pushed in and screwed back tightly to maintain water resistance and warranty. Exposure to chemicals and extreme temperatures (like saunas or hot tubs) can compromise water resistance.

Usage Features

The watch crown has three positions for setting:

  • Zero Position: The innermost neutral spot, secure for normal watch operation.
  • First Position: Pulled out one click. Used to adjust the date and/or day wheels (if applicable). For screw-down crowns, it must be gently unscrewed first.
  • Second Position: Pulled out a second click from neutral. Used to set the time.

Always remove the watch from the wrist before adjusting the crown to prevent damage.

Maintenance Features

  • Annual Servicing: The timepiece should be serviced annually to verify water resistance, oil and lubricate the movement, and replace internal gaskets as needed.
  • Battery Replacement: For quartz watches, depleted batteries should be attended to immediately (typically lasting 1-3 years) to avoid leakage.
  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the timepiece with a dry, soft cloth.
  • Environmental Avoidance: Avoid impacts, exposure to chemicals, magnetic fields, and extreme temperatures, including very hot showers, saunas, or hot tubs.
  • Crown Operation: Remove the timepiece from your wrist before operating the crown. Do not operate the crown or push buttons while in contact with water.
  • Date Setting: Avoid changing the date when the watch hands are pointing between 8:00 pm and 4:00 am, as this is the transitional time for the date wheel and could damage the movement.

Warranty and Service:

Chase-Durer timepieces come with a three (3) year limited manufacturer's warranty covering manufacturing defects in material and workmanship from the original purchase date through an authorized retailer. The warranty covers hands, dial, markers, and watch movement. It does not cover the crystal, crown, strap, bracelet, battery, or damage from unauthorized/improper use, service, accident, impact, negligence, or normal wear and tear. Water intrusion due to accident, improper use, or negligence is not covered.

For warranty claims or service, watches should be sent to an authorized repair center. A flat rate of $28.00 USD is charged for service evaluation and return shipping. Payment can be made via money order, check, or credit card. Gift boxes and exotic straps should not be included with the watch shipment. The product owner is responsible for shipping costs to and from the service center. If a watch is not covered under warranty, repair costs will be charged. Each repair is covered by a one-year warranty.

The warranty is invalid if the timepiece is serviced by an unauthorized repair center or purchased from an unauthorized retailer. Any additional warranty offered by an individual retailer is their sole responsibility. The limited warranty is valid only with a valid and completed warranty card and dated proof of purchase.

For a list of authorized service centers and specific instructions, customers should visit www.chasedurerwatch.com and complete the online service request form. The website also provides specific instruction manuals for different watch models, which can be found by searching the model number engraved on the case back.

The manual also states that any claims related to the warranty or purchase must be brought in the purchaser's individual capacity, not as a class action. Disputes are governed by the laws of Florida, USA. In case of contradiction between the booklet and website translations, the English version controls.

Accessories:

Information on bands, bracelets, and other accessories can be found at www.chasedurerwatch.com. When sending a watch for service, only the watch case should be sent; gift boxes and exotic straps (alligator, crocodile, snake, ostrich, fish, stingrays, salmon) should be removed due to shipping restrictions. Genuine leather, synthetic, leather embossed straps, and metal bands are excluded from this policy and can remain attached.
