- disconnect the power cord from the power outlet.
- invert base unit and shake out all water.
- dry the base unit with a dry absorbent cloth.
- place the Kettle on the base and re-insert the power cord into the power outlet.
CAUTION
: The Kettle always gets hot during operation. DO NOT touch the glass body or lid. Lift the Kettle
only by the handle and open the lid only by using the lid release button. Exercise care to avoid contact with
steam or the water when opening the lid while the Kettle is still hot or contains hot water.
Operation During “Brown-Outs” and Periods of Low Voltage
During periods of extremely hot weather power companies in certain areas allow the grid voltage to drop from
the standard 120 volts to as low as 108 volts. At such low voltages you will notice that it takes longer for the water
to boil. Further, once the water boils, it takes longer for the steam detection switch to turn off the power.
Consequently during “brown-outs”, we strongly recommend that you compensate for the slower response of
the steam switch by always filling the kettle at least half full of water before turning on the power. With that amount
of water the steam detection switch will operate normally during “brown-outs.” Always make certain the power
switch is off or shut it off before lifting the kettle from its base to pour the boiled water.

Kettle is designed specifically for heating water.
Do not attempt to heat anything other
than water in the Kettle. With liquids and mixtures of low water content, the automatic steam activated
shut-off switch may not function properly and the Kettle may be damaged.
Before cleaning, make sure power switch is turned “OFF”, then remove
Kettle
from base unit. Unplug the base unit.
Always wait until the Kettle has fully cooled to room temperature before cleaning.
To avoid scratching, clean the outside of the Kettle with a soft cloth only.
Never use abrasive cleansers or abrasive pads on either the inside or outside glass surface of this product.
The interior of the Kettle can be cleaned by decalcification at regular intervals. (See below).
Rinse out the Kettle at regular intervals and after extended non-use. Do not immerse.
Do not attempt to clean any part of the Kettle or base in the dishwasher.
Decalcification
In areas with a high mineral content in the water supply, the Kettle should be decalcified at regular intervals.
Fill the Kettle with a solution of 16 oz. water and 10 tablespoons of vinegar and bring to a boil.
When process is complete, rinse the Kettle twice with clean water.
Commercially available liquid decalcifiers may also be used. Follow the instructions provided with
decalcifier by its manufaturer.
Regular decalcification will keep the Kettle operating at peak performance and electrical efficiency. It will also
extend the life of the Kettle.Over time slightly brownish stains may appear inside of the Kettle on the stainless steel
floor. This is not rust, it is a result of high iron content in the water supply, often referred to as boiler scale. These
stains can be easily wiped away with a cloth or mild abrasive. Rinse Kettle thoroughly after decalcification or cleaning.

the function of the steam switch will be compromised. Replacement filters are available
from the EdgeCraft Corp.
Before removing the filter (for replacement or cleaning):
- make sure the Kettle is unplugged from the power source.
- do not attempt to remove the filter when hot or when the Kettle
contains hot water.
To remove the filter (Fig.2), open the Kettle with the spout facing you. Grasp the top
black rim of the filter and pull the filter out. At the bottom of the filter note the small
extending plastic tab (A) that fits comfortably into slot (C) immediately below the filter.
Lime scale can be removed from the filter by:
- running water over filter under a tap, while gently brushing with a soft nylon brush.
- or by soaking the filter in heated vinegar solution or a commercially available descaling agent.
To reinsert the filter, align the filter with the slots (B) provided behind the kettle spout and insert the plastic tab (A) into its
slot (C). Gently press the filter into position.
Never leave the filter loose inside the kettle. Ensure that the filter is always correctly placed behind the spout.
Boil-dry Protection
CAUTION: Avoid boiling the Kettle dry. Never operate Kettle with less than 16 ounces of water (See marks on water guage).
This Kettle is equipped with a pair of self-resetting “boil-dry” switches that protect the appliance in the event of improper use. If
heating is accidentally started without sufficient water or if the water evaporates completely, the appliance is automatically
switched OFF by the “boil-dry” protection. Try to avoid allowing the Kettle to “boil-dry”. If the “boil-dry” protection is actuated,
disconnect the power cord and allow the Kettle to cool down for a few minutes and then refill with at least 16 ounces of cold
water.
The Kettle will now operate normally.
Frequent “boil-dry” of the Kettle may reduce its usable life.
(CAUTION: Small amounts of hot water remaining in the Kettle can cause scalding injuries).

Overview

The Chef'sChoice® Cordless Electric Glass Kettle is a sophisticated appliance designed for efficiently heating water. Crafted for excellence, it boasts a sleek design and incorporates multilevel protection safety switches, ensuring both elegance and safety. This kettle can boil 1.7 liters (1 3/4 quarts) of water in just minutes, making it a convenient and time-saving addition to any kitchen.

Function Description

The primary function of this device is to heat water quickly and efficiently. It features an enclosed heating element, which contributes to an easily cleanable stainless steel and glass interior, promising years of reliable service. A convenient external water level gauge allows users to monitor the water level in both fluid ounces and liters, ensuring precise filling.

The kettle is equipped with an automatic steam-activated switch-off device. This mechanism detects the presence of steam and deactivates the appliance shortly after the boiling point is reached, ensuring that the water does not boil excessively and conserving energy. For this automatic shut-off device to function properly, the lid must be completely closed. When boiling is detected, the "ON/OFF" (I/O) switch automatically flips to the "OFF" (O) position. Users may observe a few drops of water on the base unit due to condensation, which does not impair the kettle's operation or safety.

The kettle also includes a "boil-dry" protection system. It is equipped with a pair of self-resetting switches that protect the appliance if it is accidentally started without sufficient water or if the water evaporates completely. In such cases, the appliance automatically switches OFF. If the boil-dry protection is actuated, users should disconnect the power cord, allow the kettle to cool for a few minutes, and then refill it with at least 16 ounces of cold water. Frequent boil-dry incidents may reduce the kettle's usable life.

Usage Features

The Chef'sChoice® Kettle consists of two main parts: a base unit with an electrical connector and power cord, and a removable kettle with an electrical adaptor. The kettle can only be used with its appropriate base unit, and both must bear the same model number.

Before first use, it is recommended to read all safety and operating instructions carefully. For new kettles, the first filling of boiled water should be discarded, and the kettle rinsed and refilled with fresh water.

To operate, the kettle must be filled with at least 16 ounces (0.5 liters) of water to prevent it from running dry during the boiling process. It is crucial not to fill the kettle above the maximum line indicated on the water gauge to prevent boiling water from splashing out through the spout. If overfilled water flows down the outside of the kettle and onto its bottom, the unit should be shut "OFF" and unplugged, the kettle emptied, the base thoroughly dried, and the kettle carefully refilled before being placed back on the base unit. Water on the bottom of the kettle can lead to an electric shock.

After filling, the kettle is placed on the base unit. The power cord should be unwound to the desired length and plugged into a powered outlet. The appliance features a polarized plug, meaning one blade is wider than the other, designed to fit a polarized outlet only one way to reduce the risk of electric shock. If the plug does not fit fully, it should be reversed. If it still does not fit, a qualified electrician should be contacted, and no attempt should be made to modify the plug.

A short power supply cord is provided to reduce the risk of entanglement or tripping. If an extension cord is used, it should be a grounded three-conductor cord rated at not less than 15 amperes and match the plug's configuration. The longer cord should be arranged to prevent it from draping over countertops or tabletops where it could be pulled or tipped over by children or the infirm.

The kettle's power switch has two positions: "ON" (I) and "OFF" (O). To activate, the kettle is placed on its base, and the switch is pushed down to the "ON" position, which will illuminate to indicate power is on. The kettle normally switches "OFF" automatically within 30 seconds after the boiling point is reached. The time required for the automatic switch-off varies depending on the amount of water, with faster shut-off at maximum fill level compared to minimum.

If only warm water is desired, the heating process can be interrupted at any time by first pressing the power switch to "OFF" (O) before lifting the kettle. The kettle can be easily lifted from the base for pouring or serving, with a specially designed spout for easy pouring of even small amounts of water. After pouring, the kettle should be replaced on the base unit. The power switch must be pushed to the "ON" position again to restart the heating process. Users should always check the water level before turning the power switch "ON" and ensure at least 16 ounces (0.5 liters) of water are in the kettle to avoid boiling it dry.

The lid must be fully closed when heating water. It is equipped with a snap lock to prevent unintentional opening while pouring. The lid can be easily opened with one hand by grasping the handle and pressing the lid release button with the thumb. To close the lid, it should be pressed down lightly until it snaps completely shut.

The kettle is equipped with a scale filter located behind the spout to prevent loose particles of lime scale from being poured into beverages. This filter is removable for cleaning and replacement. The kettle should not be operated without this filter in place, as its removal will compromise the steam switch's function. Replacement filters are available from EdgeCraft Corp. Before removing the filter, ensure the kettle is unplugged and not hot or containing hot water. To remove the filter, open the kettle with the spout facing you, grasp the top black rim of the filter, and pull it out. The small extending plastic tab (A) at the bottom of the filter fits into slot (C) immediately below the filter. To reinsert the filter, align it with the slots (B) behind the kettle spout and insert the plastic tab (A) into its slot (C), gently pressing the filter into position. The filter must always be correctly placed and not left loose inside the kettle.

During periods of "brown-outs" or low voltage, when grid voltage drops, water may take longer to boil, and the steam detection switch may take longer to turn off. To compensate, it is recommended to always fill the kettle at least half full of water before turning on the power, ensuring the steam detection switch operates normally. The power switch should always be off or shut off before lifting the kettle from its base to pour boiled water.

Maintenance Features

The Chef'sChoice® Kettle is designed specifically for heating water; no other liquids or mixtures should be heated in it, as this could damage the kettle or impair the automatic shut-off switch.

Before cleaning, ensure the power switch is "OFF," remove the kettle from the base unit, and unplug the base unit. Always wait until the kettle has fully cooled to room temperature before cleaning. The outside of the kettle should be cleaned with a soft cloth only to avoid scratching. Abrasive cleansers or pads should never be used on the inside or outside glass surfaces.

The interior of the kettle can be cleaned by decalcification at regular intervals, especially in areas with high mineral content in the water supply. To decalcify, fill the kettle with a solution of 16 oz. water and 10 tablespoons of vinegar, and bring it to a boil. After the process is complete, rinse the kettle twice with clean water. Commercially available liquid decalcifiers can also be used, following the manufacturer's instructions. Regular decalcification maintains peak performance, electrical efficiency, and extends the kettle's life. Slightly brownish stains that may appear on the stainless steel floor are not rust but boiler scale from high iron content in the water supply; these can be wiped away with a cloth or mild abrasive. The kettle should be thoroughly rinsed after decalcification or cleaning.

The kettle should be rinsed out at regular intervals and after extended non-use. The kettle or base unit should never be immersed in water or cleaned in a dishwasher. No part of the kettle or base should be cleaned in a dishwasher.

Lime scale can be removed from the filter by running water over it under a tap while gently brushing with a soft nylon brush, or by soaking the filter in a heated vinegar solution or a commercially available descaling agent.
