Overview

The 2016 Chevrolet Spark EV is an all-electric vehicle designed for efficient urban and suburban driving. It features a lithium-ion high voltage battery pack and a push-button start/stop ignition system.

Function Description:

The Spark EV is a compact electric car that provides a sustainable and efficient mode of transportation. Its primary function is to offer a zero-emission driving experience, powered solely by electricity. The vehicle is equipped with an infotainment system that provides navigation, entertainment, and vehicle information. It also includes various driver assistance and convenience features.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Battery: Lithium-ion high voltage battery pack.
  • Charging Time (240-volt charging station): Approximately 7 hours for a full charge.
  • Charging Time (120-volt standard outlet, 12-amp setting): Approximately 20 hours for a full charge.
  • DC Fast Charging: Approximately 20 minutes to recharge a depleted battery to 80%.
  • Operating Modes: Normal (default, efficient operation) and Sport (more responsive acceleration, reduced efficiency).
  • Infotainment System: Chevrolet MyLink with Bluetooth, USB, Aux input, smartphone link (Pandora, Stitcher, BringGo, TuneIn), and Siri® Eyes Free compatibility.
  • Connectivity: OnStar® with 4G LTE and Wi-Fi® hotspot (supports up to seven devices).
  • Driver Information Center (DIC): Configurable LCD screen displaying EV operation information, battery gauge, power indicator gauge, and driver efficiency gauge.

Usage Features:

  • Starting/Stopping the Vehicle: The vehicle starts by pressing the POWER button while the brake pedal is depressed and the RKE transmitter is inside the vehicle. It stops by shifting to Park and pressing the POWER button.
  • Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter (Key Fob):
    • Key Release: Extends the physical key for locks.
    • Unlock: Unlocks the driver's door (first press) or all doors (second press).
    • Lock: Locks all doors.
    • Vehicle Locator/Panic Alarm: Locates the vehicle (press and release) or sounds the alarm (press and hold for 3 seconds).
    • DC Stop Charge: Stops DC fast charging (press and hold).
    • Remote Start: Starts the vehicle and conditions the cabin temperature by pressing and releasing the Lock button, then pressing and holding the button until turn signals flash. Recommended when plugged in to use wall outlet energy for cabin conditioning.
  • Seat Adjustment: Manual adjustments for steering wheel position (lever A), seat slide (bar B), seat height (knob C), and seatback recline (lever D).
  • Instrument Cluster/Driver Information Center (DIC):
    • CONFIG Button: Changes the instrument cluster display configuration (Simple battery gauge, Enhanced battery gauge, Simple battery gauge with driver efficiency gauge, Enhanced battery gauge with driver efficiency gauge).
    • SELECT Knob: Scrolls through menus and selects highlighted items.
    • BACK Button: Moves back or exits a menu.
    • Efficiency Gauge: Displays driving efficiency with a spinning ball (green for efficient, yellow for inefficient acceleration/braking).
  • Electric Power Management:
    • Total Vehicle Range: Battery gauge displays charge level and estimated range, which varies based on driving style, speed, terrain, and climate settings.
    • Remote Start Preconditioning: Heats or cools the interior while plugged in to maximize electric range.
  • Operating Modes:
    • Normal Mode: Default for efficient driving.
    • Sport Mode: Activated by the SPORT button on the center console for more responsive acceleration. Pressing the button again returns to Normal Mode.
  • Climate Controls: Accessed via the touch screen.
    • TEMP Button: Turns AC/heater on/off.
    • AUTO Button: Automatically adjusts system to reach set temperature.
    • Climate Power Display: Shows energy consumption impact of climate settings.
  • Information Displays (via Leaf button on center stack):
    • Power Flow: Shows current system operating conditions (Battery Power Active/Stationary, Regen Power Recovery, Power Off).
    • Charging: Displays charge mode status (Immediately, Delayed based on Departure Time, Delayed based on electric Rate and Departure Time).
    • Energy Information: Shows energy usage history (since last full charge, over last 5/50 miles) and energy-saving tips.
  • Infotainment System (Chevrolet MyLink):
    • Touch Screen Display: Accesses multimedia, telephone, smartphone link, electric info, climate settings, and general settings.
    • Bluetooth System: Pairs devices for hands-free calling and audio streaming.
    • Vehicle Personalization: Customizes features like Time & Date, Radio, Connection, Vehicle, Language, Text Scroll, Touch Beep Sound, and Max Startup Volume.
  • OnStar® with 4G LTE and Wi-Fi®: Provides in-vehicle internet access and OnStar services (Roadside Assistance, RemoteLink Key Fob Services).
  • Charging Status Indicator: Located on the instrument panel near the windshield.
    • Solid green with single horn chirp: Plugged in, charging.
    • Slow (long pulse) flashing green with double horn chirp: Plugged in, charging delayed.
    • Fast (short pulse) flashing green: Plugged in, fully charged.
    • Solid yellow: Plugged in, not charging.
    • No light: Not plugged in or charger/outlet issue.
    • Repetitive horn chirps and no light: Electricity interrupted before charging completion.
  • AC Charging:
    • Start: Plug 120-volt AC charge cord into an electrical outlet and then into the vehicle's charge port. Charge cord indicators should be green. Horn chirps when properly connected.
    • Programmable Charging: Modes include Immediately, Departure Time, and Rate and Departure Time.
    • End: Unlock vehicle, unplug charge cord from vehicle, close charge port door, unplug from outlet.
  • DC Charging (if equipped):
    • Start: Open charge port door, lower DC charging dust cover, plug charge cord into vehicle, follow charging station instructions. DC plug locks while charging.
    • End: Unlock vehicle, unplug charge cord from vehicle (after full charge or manual stop), close dust cover and charge port door.
