Overview

The Chicco Bed Barrier is a safety device designed to prevent children from falling out of bed. It is intended for use with children between 18 months and 5 years of age who are able to climb on and off the bed without assistance. The bed barrier is not a substitute for a cot and does not offer the same level of safety as a cot.

Technical Specifications:

  • Length (95cm model): Compatible with mattresses 150-250cm long, a minimum of 90cm wide, and a maximum of 20cm thick.
  • Length (135cm model): Compatible with mattresses 190-250cm long, a minimum of 90cm wide, and a maximum of 20cm thick.
  • Mattress Thickness: Not to be used with mattresses thicker than 20cm.
  • Bed Height: Not to be used with beds where the top surface of the mattress is higher than 60cm from the floor.
  • Safety Gap: When positioned and fixed, there must be a gap of at least 250mm (10 inches) between each end of the bed and the corresponding end of the barrier (refer to Fig. 3B in the manual).

Components:

  • A - Barrier: The main structure of the device.
  • B - Safety Mesh: The protective netting that prevents falls.
  • C - Side Joint: Connects the safety mesh to the plastic supports.
  • D - Plastic Supports: The base supports that rotate and secure the barrier under the mattress.
  • E - Fastening Straps: Used to secure the barrier to the bed frame.

Usage Features:

  • Assembly and Installation: All assembly, positioning, and adjustment operations must be carried out by an adult.
    1. Rotate the two plastic supports (D) to a position perpendicular to the safety mesh (B) (Fig. 1).
    2. Push the safety mesh (B) downwards, locking it into place at the side joints (C) on the two plastic supports (D) (Fig. 2).
    3. Position and secure the barrier to the bed by placing it under the mattress and using the two fastening straps (E) (Fig. 3A, Fig. 3B).
  • Reclining Feature: To recline the barrier without removing it from the bed, first release the safety mesh from one side, then the other, by pulling it upwards (Fig. 4A). Once released, the barrier can be reclined (Fig. 4B).
  • Compatibility: The barrier is designed for use with specific mattress dimensions as detailed in the technical specifications. It should not be used with low-density mattresses, beds with side panels, or bunk beds (on the top section).
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Ensure the barrier is correctly fixed and positioned before use.
    • Verify that the safety mesh is in contact with the side surface of the mattress during use.
    • Never remove the fastening straps from the plastic supports or leave them within reach of children.
    • Do not use if any parts are broken, torn, or missing.
    • Do not allow other children to play unsupervised near the barrier or climb on it.
    • Keep the barrier away from electrical appliances, gas cookers, other heat sources, windows, walls (where cords or curtains could be used for climbing), and electrical cables to prevent risks of burns, fire, suffocation, or strangulation.
    • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to prevent material and fabric fading.
    • Store the barrier away from children when not in use.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: All cleaning and maintenance operations must be performed by an adult.
    • Fabric parts can be cleaned with a soft cloth dampened with water or a neutral detergent.
    • Plastic parts can be cleaned with a soft cloth dampened with water.
    • Metal parts, if they come into contact with water, should be dried immediately to prevent rust formation.
    • Do not use abrasive detergents or solvents.
  • Inspection: Periodically check the barrier components for wear, breakage, or damage. If any damage is found, do not use the barrier until it has been repaired or replaced.
  • Storage: Store the barrier in a dry place.
