Overview

This document is an instruction manual for the "TRAX RELAX" child restraint system, designed and manufactured by ChIPOLINO. It provides essential information for the safe installation, use, and maintenance of the car seat, adhering to international safety regulations.

Function Description

The "TRAX RELAX" is a "UNIVERSAL" child restraint system designed for children weighing from 0 to 25 kg, approximately from birth to 6 years of age. It serves to safely transport children in vehicles by securing them with either the car seat's integrated 5-point safety harness or the vehicle's 3-point safety belt, depending on the child's weight group. The system is designed to provide protection in the event of a crash or road accident, though it emphasizes that no restraint system can offer absolute protection.

The car seat is classified into three mass groups:

  • Group 0+ (0-13 kg): For infants from birth up to approximately 18 months. In this group, the car seat is installed in a "rearward facing" position, opposite to the car's motion, and the child is secured with the car seat's 5-point safety belts. The backrest recline should be set to Position 4 to prevent breathing problems.
  • Group I (9-18 kg): For children from approximately 9 months up to 4 years. In this group, the car seat is installed in a "forward facing" position, in the direction of the car's motion, and the child is secured with the car seat's 5-point safety belts. The backrest recline can be set to Positions 1, 2, or 3.
  • Group II (15-25 kg): For children from approximately 3 years up to 6 years. In this group, the car seat is installed in a "forward facing" position, in the direction of the car's motion. For this group, the child's car seat's soft pad and 5-point safety belt must be removed, and the child is secured using the vehicle's 3-point safety belts. The backrest recline should be set to Position 1.

The car seat features a 5-point safety belt system (for Groups 0+ and I), a backrest recline function with four positions, an adjustable headrest height, and additional soft pads for comfort.

Usage Features

Installation and Securing:

  • Airbag Warning: Never install the car seat in a REARWARD POSITION on a seat equipped with an active airbag that cannot be deactivated, as this may lead to death or serious injury.
  • Forward Facing Restriction: Never install the car seat in a "forward facing" direction with a child weighing less than 9 kg.
  • Safety Belt Adjustment: The car seat's safety harness and the vehicle's safety belts must be properly adjusted to the child's height, not twisted, and snug against the child's body. The shoulder belts must be at the child's shoulder level.
  • Backrest Recline: The backrest can be adjusted to four positions, with a click sound indicating a secure fix. Position 4 is for Group 0+ (rearward facing), and Positions 1, 2, or 3 for Group I (forward facing), and Position 1 for Group II (forward facing).
  • Headrest Adjustment: The headrest height can be adjusted by pulling/pressing a mechanism and moving the headrest to the desired position.
  • Shoulder Belt Height Adjustment: The shoulder belts can be adjusted by removing the metal buckle, taking the belts out of their slots, and reinserting them through the required height slots at the front, then rejoining them into the metal buckle.
  • Removing Safety Belts and Soft Pads: For Group II usage (15-25 kg), the soft pad and 5-point safety belt of the child car seat must be removed. This involves inserting a metal part at the bottom of the car seat's base to release the belts and pads.
  • Snug Fit: The front part of the car seat must fully snug to the backrest of the front seat of the car for rearward-facing installation. The back side of the car seat must fully snug to the backrest of the car seat for forward-facing installation.

General Safety Guidelines:

  • Load Bearing Points: Do not use any load-bearing contact points other than those described and marked in the instructions.
  • Modifications: Do not make any alterations, additions, or modifications to the device without the approval of the type approval authority.
  • Fire Hazard: Keep the car seat away from fire.
  • Rigid Items: Ensure rigid items and plastic parts are located and installed so they cannot become trapped by a movable seat or vehicle door during everyday use.
  • Belt Condition: Do not allow safety belts to be twisted, frayed, or torn. Latches and buckles must always be in good order and firmly fixed.
  • Damage: Discontinue use if any uncertainty or defect is found in the construction, latches, straps, or locking mechanisms. Replace damaged parts with new ones.
  • Accident: The car seat must be replaced if it has been subjected to violent stresses in an accident.
  • Second-Hand: Never use a second-hand child restraint, as it may have suffered unseen structural damage.
  • Cover: The child restraint must not be used without its cover. The cover should only be replaced with one recommended by the manufacturer, as it is an integral part of the restraint's performance.
  • Loose Objects: Properly secure any luggage or other objects that could cause injuries in a collision.
  • Additional Pads: Do not add any pads other than those supplied by the manufacturer, as they may obscure child safety.
  • Spare Parts: Use only spare parts and components supplied by the manufacturer. The manufacturer assumes no responsibility for safety if non-original parts are used.
  • Sunlight Exposure: Keep the car seat away from direct sunlight to prevent the child from burning and to avoid deformation of the seat, especially plastic parts.
  • Not a Bed: The car seat does not replace a child's cot or bed. For sleep, place the child in a suitable baby stroller, crib, or bed.
  • Suffocation Risk: Do not attach additional cords or strings to the car seat. Never place the child seat on beds, couches, or similar soft surfaces.
