This document provides assembly instructions for a garden swing, specifically models SW101/2, SW103/4, and SW105. The device is a wooden garden swing designed for outdoor relaxation, featuring a seat, a frame, and an optional roof.
Components:
The assembly consists of six main components:
- Part 1 & 2: Left side panel / Right side panel: These form the main upright structure of the swing.
- Part 3 & 4: Swing hook bar / Rear support: The swing hook bar (Part 3) is where the swing seat will hang, and the rear support bar (Part 4) provides stability to the back of the frame.
- Part 5: Swing Roof: This component provides shade and protection from the elements. The style of the roof may vary depending on the specific model (SW101/2, SW103/4, or SW105).
- Part 6: Swing Seat with chains: This is the seating component, complete with chains for hanging from the swing hook bar.
To successfully assemble the garden swing, the following tools are recommended:
- Battery screwdriver fitted with a PZ2 bit
- Hammer
- 13mm spanner
- 9mm wood drill bit
Fixings:
The assembly requires specific fixings:
- 12 x M8 x 110 bolts
- 12 x M8 Nuts
- 12 x M8 washers
- 4 x 5mm x 100mm Screws
Assembly Steps:
-
Attaching the Swing Hook Bar and Rear Support Bar:
- Take the swing hook bar (Part 3) and the rear support bar (Part 4).
- Knock the M8 x 110 bolts through the designated holes. There are a total of 12 holes for this step.
- Ensure that when knocking the bolts through the hook bar, the hook itself is hanging downwards, as depicted in the provided image. This orientation is crucial for proper seat attachment.
-
Connecting Swing Sides and Swing Hook Bar:
- Position the swing sides (Parts 1 & 2) and place the swing hook bar (Part 3) on top of them.
- Knock the M8 x 110 bolts downwards through the swing sides.
- Important: At this stage, ensure that the cup holders on the swing sides are facing inwards. This is a critical detail for the swing's functionality and appearance.
- Do not tighten the nuts yet. This allows for adjustments in subsequent steps.
- Troubleshooting Tip: If the fit for the bolts is overly tight, it is advised to use a 9mm drill bit to re-drill the holes. Wood can swell and expand due to varying humidity and weather conditions during storage and transit, making the holes tighter than intended.
-
Attaching the Rear Support Bar:
- Attach the rear support bar to the swing sides as shown in the picture.
- Knock the M8 x 110 bolts all the way through the swing sides.
- Assembly Tip: Try to align all the bolts before knocking one end fully in. Knocking one end completely first can make it difficult to align and insert the bolts at the other end.
-
Hanging the Swing Seat:
- Hang the chains of the swing seat (Part 6) from the hooks on the swing hook bar.
- Critical for Balance: Ensure that an equal number of chain links are used on either side of each hook. This ensures the seat hangs level.
- Customization Feature: The amount of chain links used on either side of the hook can be adjusted to alter the upright angle of the seat. There are no strict rules for the exact number of links; users can customize this to their preferred seating position.
- Once the seat is in the desired position, tighten the hooks on the hook bar to secure the seat.
-
Installing the Swing Roof:
- Place the swing roof (Part 5) on top of the swing frame.
- Customization Feature: The roof can be moved forward or backward to achieve the desired amount of cover or shade.
- Once the roof is in the desired position, use the 5mm x 100mm screws to secure it. Screw two screws on either side of the roof section into the upright of the swing side.
-
Final Tightening:
- Place the M8 washers and M8 nuts on all the M8 x 110 bolts that have been inserted throughout the assembly.
- Fully tighten all nuts using the 13mm spanner. This step is crucial to ensure the swing is secure, stable, and safe for use.
Usage Features:
- Adjustable Seat Angle: The swing seat's upright angle can be customized by adjusting the number of chain links used on either side of the hooks.
- Adjustable Roof Position: The roof can be moved forward or backward to provide optimal shade or cover.
- Durable Construction: Made of wood, designed for outdoor use.
Maintenance Features:
- Wood Swelling/Expansion: The instructions acknowledge that wood can swell and expand due to environmental conditions. This suggests that periodic checks and potential re-drilling of bolt holes might be necessary if disassembly or reassembly is attempted in the future.
- Tightening of Fixings: The final step emphasizes fully tightening all nuts, which is a standard maintenance practice to ensure long-term stability and safety. Users should periodically check and re-tighten all fixings.
The manual also includes images of the assembled product and a link to an assembly video for further assistance. The final product is a sturdy, customizable garden swing designed for comfortable outdoor use.
