CONSTRUCTING YOUR FRAME
1 Lay out two of the 3-way corners (A) 12' apart at one end, where your frame will be, with the
4” corner piece facing toward the other end of the frame.
2
Measure 55' from the first 3-way corners (A) to the other end of the frame and lay out the other
two 3-way corners with the 4” corner piece facing the other end of the frame.
3 Lay out the 4-way arch corners (B) between the end 3-way corners (A) so that they are about 14' apart.
4
Assemble the five arch tops by attaching one 10' length of EMT to a 16” pipe (C) . Insert a self-drilling
screw (J) at the joint.
5
Assemble the arch legs by attaching one 10' length of EMT to one 28" pipe (D). Insert a self-drilling
screw (J).
6
Complete assembling the arches by attaching the arch tops to the corners. Proceed to attach the legs
to the corners of each arch. Attach end caps (I) to the bottom of the frame legs.
7
Assemble the eight runners, that go between the arches, by attaching one 10' length of EMT to a 52"
pipe (G). Insert a self-drilling screw (J) to the 10' and the 52" pipe (G).
.
8
Stand up one end arch and attach a 14' runner to each of the end corners. Stand up the second arch
and attach the runners to it. Proceed to stand up the remaining arches and connect all the runners.
Your frame should end up being about 56' long.
HANGING YOUR BATTING CAGE
1
Lay out your batting cage inside the frame and find the three ropes on top of the cage at one end.
Proceed to attach the ropes to the arch top at one end of the frame. Then attach the three ropes, at
the other end of the batting cage, to the other end of the frame.
2
Attach the net hangers (H) to the runners of the frame, about four feet apart, by laying the rope end
over the pipe and inserting the carabiner through the loop. Then attach a net hanger to the middle of
each arch.
3 Start at one end and lift up one side of the net and attach the net hangers to it by clipping the
carabiner to the rope along the top side of the net.
4
Attach the middle of the net rope, below the arch tops, to the middle of the arch tops.

You will need an area 56'x17'6" for your frame and an
additional 10' at each end for the support ropes.
It is recommended that you mark off this area before
starting.

Overview

This document provides instructions for assembling the Cimarron 55x12x12 Batting Cage Frame Corners, a robust structure designed for serious athletes. The system is primarily a frame kit that requires additional purchase of standard EMT (Electrical Metallic Tubing) for completion.

Function Description:

The Cimarron 55x12x12 Batting Cage Frame Corners kit is designed to construct a large, durable batting cage frame. This frame serves as the structural support for a batting cage net, providing a safe and enclosed environment for batting practice. The system is intended for outdoor use, as indicated by the recommendation to secure the frame with ropes and stakes to prevent wind-related issues. The frame's modular design allows for relatively straightforward assembly using a combination of specialized corner pieces and standard EMT pipes. Once assembled, the frame supports the batting cage net, which is attached using net hangers and ropes, creating a complete batting practice enclosure.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Frame Dimensions: The assembled frame measures approximately 55 feet long, 12 feet wide, and 12 feet high. The instructions specify an overall length of about 56 feet for the frame, with an additional 10 feet at each end recommended for support ropes, suggesting a total operational area of 56'x17'6".
  • Required External Materials: The kit requires the purchase of 23 - 10' lengths of 1 1/4" thin-walled EMT (Electrical Metallic Tubing). Specific SKU numbers for Lowe's (#72717) and Home Depot (#580023) are provided, indicating the type of pipe needed.
  • Component Breakdown (Kit Contents):
    • 3-Way Corners (A): 4 units. These likely form the corners of the rectangular base or top of the frame.
    • 4-Way Corners (B): 6 units. These are crucial for creating the arched sections of the frame, allowing connections in multiple directions.
    • 16" Pipe w/ Reduced End (C): 5 units. These are used in conjunction with 10' EMT lengths to form the "arch tops."
    • 28" Pipe w/ Reduced End (D): 10 units. These are used with 10' EMT lengths to form the "arch legs."
    • 52" Pipe w/ Reduced End (G): 8 units. These are used with 10' EMT lengths to form the "runners" that connect the arches.
    • Net Hangers (H): 43 units. These are essential for attaching the batting cage net to the frame's runners and arches. They feature a rope end and a carabiner for secure attachment.
    • Pipe End Caps (I): 10 units. These are placed on the bottom of the frame legs, likely to protect the pipes and the ground surface.
    • Self-Drilling Screws (J): 23 units. These are used to secure the EMT pipes to the various pipe extensions (C, D, G) at the joints, ensuring structural integrity.
    • Nut Setter: 1 unit. This tool is included to facilitate the installation of the self-drilling screws.

Usage Features:

  • Modular Assembly: The frame is constructed by connecting various corner pieces and pipe extensions with standard EMT pipes. This modularity simplifies the assembly process.
  • Step-by-Step Instructions: The manual provides clear, numbered steps for laying out components, assembling arch tops and legs, connecting arches with runners, and finally standing up the frame.
  • Net Hanging System: The kit includes 43 net hangers with a carabiner system, allowing for easy and secure attachment of the batting cage net to the frame's runners and arches. The instructions detail how to loop the rope end over the pipe and secure it with the carabiner.
  • Wind Resistance Design: The instructions recommend tying the four rope tails on the batting cage to the bottom of the end arches to prevent the net from blowing inward due to wind. Additionally, securing the entire frame to the ground with ropes and stakes (not included) is advised for stability.
  • Layout Guidance: The manual specifies the required area (56'x17'6") for the frame and recommends marking off this area before starting assembly, which aids in proper placement and alignment.
  • Ease of Connection: Self-drilling screws are used at all pipe joints, making the connections robust and relatively easy to install with the included nut setter.

Maintenance Features:

  • Durable Construction: The use of EMT pipes and specialized metal corner pieces suggests a durable frame designed to withstand outdoor conditions.
  • Replaceable Components: Should any part of the frame be damaged, individual components (EMT pipes, corner pieces, pipe extensions, net hangers) could potentially be replaced, extending the lifespan of the batting cage. The reliance on standard EMT pipes makes sourcing replacements for those components straightforward.
  • Secure Fasteners: The self-drilling screws provide secure connections, minimizing the need for frequent re-tightening under normal use.
  • Weather Protection: The inclusion of pipe end caps helps protect the bottom of the frame legs from corrosion or damage from ground contact.
  • Wind Management: The design incorporates features to mitigate wind effects on the net, which helps prevent damage to the net and frame, thereby reducing maintenance needs related to weather-induced wear and tear. Regular inspection of the net and frame connections, especially after strong winds, would be a recommended maintenance practice, though not explicitly stated in the provided text.
