Overview

The Clear Comfort CCW50 Sanitation System is a residential spa sanitation device designed to provide complete water protection without the need for toxic chemicals. It utilizes a proprietary and patented technology to create hydroxyl radicals and safe amounts of hydrogen peroxide, which act as a biocide, destroy aquatic microorganisms, control organic material, and help manage scale and corrosion. This system is intended for use in spas and hot tubs.

Function Description:

The Clear Comfort CCW50 system operates by generating a gas that, when injected into the spa water via existing plumbing, produces hydroxyl radicals and hydrogen peroxide. These activated atoms work to sanitize the water, keeping minerals dissolved and removing previously deposited minerals. The system is designed to replace the need for daily residual sanitizers and reduce the reliance on toxic chemicals in most operating situations. It is crucial that the Clear Comfort system runs only when the spa pump is operating to prevent unsafe gas buildup. Pressure switches, flow switches, and other safety equipment are recommended to ensure safe operation.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Spa Volume: Suitable for all spa volumes with less than 35 GPM (gallons per minute) flow rate.
  • Type of Spa Filter: Compatible with any ANSI 50 approved filtration system.
  • Pump: Requires a pump sufficient to provide venturi air suction. If not, a Clear Comfort Booster Air Pump Kit may be necessary.
  • Voltage of Power Supply: Operates on either 120V AC or 230V AC. Units are factory set to 230V, but a switch on the ballast allows for toggling between 120V and 230V.
  • Electrical Requirements: 120V, 60Hz or 230V, 60Hz.
  • Electrical Rating: 120V, 60Hz, 1.0Amp or 230V, 60Hz, 0.5Amp.
  • Power Consumption: Approximately 10 watts.
  • Maximum Distance from Injection Point: Air tubing length should be as short as possible, with no more than 10 feet from the system to the venturi injector.
  • Installation Environment: Suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation. It is recommended to install away from upward-facing sprinklers. The system is weatherproof for outdoor conditions and is not affected by temperature.
  • Air Flow Meter Setting: Venturi air suction should be set to draw between 3 - 5 LPM (liters per minute).
  • Head Loss (Without Booster Pump):
    • 7.80 gpm: 0.57 psi
    • 14.57 gpm: 5.92 psi
    • 21.81 gpm: 17.96 psi
    • 29.17 gpm: 34.83 psi

Usage Features:

  • Easy Installation: The system is designed for relatively quick installation, typically taking only a few hours with minimal disruption to existing recirculation or electrical systems. Installation should be performed by a professional service provider.
  • Immediate Operation: Once installed, the system begins treating the water immediately.
  • Reduced Chemical Dependency: Significantly reduces or eliminates the need for traditional toxic chemicals for sanitation. However, spa water still needs to be tested as with a traditional chemical system.
  • Integrated Safety Features: Includes important safety instructions regarding electrical connections, grounding, and general operation to prevent electric shock and gas buildup. It is critical to ensure the system is off during backwashing or when water is not being treated to prevent unsafe gas accumulation.
  • Power Connection Options: Can be hardwired directly to the spa pump circuit (recommended) or connected to a standalone electrical outlet with its own timer circuit, ensuring it operates simultaneously with the spa pump. All electrical connections must comply with local and national electrical codes.
  • Hartford Loop: If the unit is installed below the water line, a Hartford loop should be installed in the 1/4-inch air line to ensure the tubing is above water level at some point, preventing water backflow.
  • Air Check Valve: A one-way air check valve is supplied and should be installed to eliminate any potential water backflow, flowing in a vertical, downward direction below the exit from the system.
  • Light Functionality (LED Indicators):
    • Green Light: Indicates the system is on and operating properly.
    • Yellow Light: Illuminates when the cartridge has reached 80% of its life expectancy (8,000 hours), signaling that a replacement cartridge should be purchased.
    • Red Light: Illuminates when the cartridge has reached its full life expectancy and needs to be replaced.
    • Blue Light: An operation light that should always be illuminated when the system is running.

Maintenance Features:

  • Annual Cartridge Replacement: The Cartridge Unit must be replaced annually. The yellow or red LED lights indicate when replacement is due.
  • Simple Cartridge Removal and Installation:
    1. Turn off and disconnect power to the system, ensuring all LEDs are off. Never service the unit while it is wet.
    2. Disconnect the Cartridge Unit from the Control Unit by rotating the cable connector's collar a quarter-turn clockwise and gently pulling up.
    3. Remove the air tubing from the bottom of the Cartridge Unit.
    4. Remove the Cartridge Unit from the Control Unit. Old cartridges should be returned to Clear Comfort for proper recycling, with a return-shipping label provided for sustainability purposes.
    5. Install the new replacement cartridge by securely fastening it to the Control Unit using the side keyed brackets.
    6. Reconnect the air tubing to the bottom of the new Cartridge Unit.
    7. Reconnect the top connection wire by inserting the Cable Connector into the Cartridge Connector and turning a quarter-turn to lock. Ensure proper connection for safe operation.
  • No Other Maintenance Required: Beyond annual cartridge replacement, no other routine maintenance is specified for the system itself.
  • Water Quality Balance: It is recommended that water quality be balanced prior to installing the Clear Comfort system.

The Clear Comfort CCW50 system offers an innovative, non-chlorine approach to spa sanitation, prioritizing user safety and environmental responsibility while providing effective water treatment.
