Overview

The ClearClick Video2Digital Converter 3.0 is a device designed to convert analog audio and video signals into digital format, saving them onto a USB flash drive or MicroSD card. It features a built-in LCD screen for preview and playback, and a range of input/output ports for connecting to various audio/video sources and display devices.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Video2Digital Converter 3.0 is to digitize analog video and audio from sources such as VCRs, camcorders, and turntables. It records these signals as MP4 (H.264) files. The device supports both video+audio recording and audio-only recording modes. It can save recorded files directly to a USB flash drive or MicroSD card, which can then be transferred to a PC or Mac for further editing or storage. The converter also offers a snapshot mode for capturing still images.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • CVBS/S-Video Input: NTSC 720x480i60 / PAL 720x576i50
  • HDMI Output: 1280x720p60
  • Output Signals: HDMI, Speaker
  • Recording Resolution: 720x480p60 / 720x576p50 / 640x480p60
  • Supported File Systems: FAT32, FAT, NTFS, exFAT
  • Recording Format: MP4 (H.264)
  • Recording Capacity: Maximum 4GB per file
  • Maximum Storage Capacity: 512GB (USB flash drive) Maximum, 512GB (MicroSD card) Maximum. USB flash drives are recommended over external USB hard drives.

Usage Features:

  • Power On/Off: The device can be turned on by plugging it in and pressing and holding the power button. A single press of the power button turns the LCD screen on/off. To turn off the device normally, hold the power button for several seconds; for a forced shutoff, hold for longer than 10 seconds.
  • LCD Screen: Provides a live preview of the input signal and allows for playback of recorded files.
  • Panel Buttons:
    • Power: Controls device power and LCD screen.
    • Menu: Enters and exits menus.
    • Vol+/-: Adjusts the built-in speaker volume.
    • Mode: Switches between Record, Snapshot, and Playback modes. In playback mode, holding this button deletes a recording.
    • Record: Starts/stops recording in recording mode. Holding this button captures a snapshot in snapshot mode.
    • OK: Selects options in menus, and pauses/resumes recording.
  • Input/Output Ports:
    • USB: For inserting a USB flash drive for recording.
    • HDMI OUT: HDMI output port (output only, not an input).
    • A-L / A-R / AV IN: Input jacks for audio/video signals (red/white/yellow RCA connectors).
    • S-Video: S-video input (optional, for video signal only; audio requires AV jacks).
    • MicroSD card slot: For inserting a MicroSD card for recording.
    • DC IN: Power input for the USB power adapter.
  • Recording Modes: Supports "Audio+Video" and "Audio Only" recording. Users can switch between these modes via the menu.
  • Pause/Resume Recording: Recordings can be paused and resumed by pressing the "OK" button, creating a single continuous file.
  • Time/Date Stamp: Users can toggle a time/date overlay on recordings via the menu. Note that if the time/stamp is "burned" into the original video tape, it cannot be removed by the converter.
  • Auto Stop Feature: Allows users to set a preset recording duration (e.g., 60, 90, 120, 150, 180 minutes) after which the device will automatically stop recording and save the file. This is useful for unattended transfers.
  • Video Size (Aspect Ratio): The default recording resolution is 720x480 pixels (3:2 aspect ratio). Users can switch to 640x480 pixels (4:3 aspect ratio) via the menu, which may be better suited for some VHS tapes to avoid horizontal stretching. This setting only affects future recordings.
  • Schedule Recordings: The device allows scheduling daily, one-time, or weekly recordings. Users must ensure the device's time and date are correctly set before scheduling.
  • Playback: Videos can be played back on the device's LCD screen by entering Playback mode (pressing the "Mode" button twice). Recordings can also be played on a TV by connecting an HDMI cable from the converter's HDMI OUT port to the TV's HDMI IN port.
  • Deleting Recordings: Recordings can be deleted by holding down the "Mode" button in playback mode.

Maintenance Features:

  • Warranty: The device comes with a 2-year warranty. Users can extend this to 3 years by registering online.
  • Tech Support: USA-based tech support is available via email at support@clearclick.tech.
  • Formatting USB/MicroSD:
    • For PC/Windows Users: USB drives or MicroSD cards can be formatted directly on the device by selecting the "Formatting" option in the menu and choosing "USB" or "SD."
    • For Mac Users: It is recommended to format USB drives or MicroSD cards on a Mac using Disk Utility (Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility), selecting MS-DOS FAT32 as the format.
    • Note: New USB/MicroSD drives or those included with the "Bundle" edition do not need to be formatted before use.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides solutions for common issues such as no audio/video, snapshots instead of videos, jerky/glitchy video (suggesting S-Video input), quiet audio from turntables (requiring a preamp), unrecognized memory cards (recommending fresh SanDisk USB 3.0 drives, 512GB or smaller), device not turning on (checking power button press duration), device freezing (removing/re-plugging power and trying different memory cards), no sound from speaker (checking volume and S-Video audio connections), and recordings not showing up on PC/Mac when device is plugged in via USB (emphasizing that the device is not meant to be plugged into a computer for file transfer; memory card/USB drive should be removed and plugged directly into the computer).
  • HDMI Recording: The device is not designed to record from HDMI or HD video sources. For this purpose, ClearClick offers "HD Capture Box" products.
  • Memory Card Removal: MicroSD cards can be removed by pressing inward until a click is heard, then pulling the card out.
