Overview

The PANTHER Model 55-0105 is a wireless remote control system designed for marine applications, specifically for controlling a motor from within a boat. This system consists of two main components: a receiver and a transmitter.

Function Description

The primary function of the PANTHER Model 55-0105 is to provide wireless control over a motor, allowing the user to operate it remotely. The receiver acts as the interface between the wireless commands and the motor, while the transmitter sends these commands. The system is designed to operate with a standard 12-volt battery, making it compatible with most marine electrical systems. When the receiver receives a command from a learned transmitter, it supplies voltage to the motor, initiating its operation. This wireless capability enhances convenience and flexibility for boat operators, eliminating the need for direct physical interaction with the motor's controls.

Usage Features

Receiver Operation: The receiver is designed for straightforward installation and operation. It connects directly to the boat's 12-volt battery via ring terminal leads; the red lead connects to the positive terminal, and the black lead to the negative terminal. Additionally, a two-prong molded plug connector on the receiver connects to the corresponding two-prong connector on the motor it is intended to operate. Once properly connected, the receiver is ready to receive commands from a programmed transmitter.

Transmitter Operation: The transmitter is a handheld device powered by a standard 12VDC A23 type battery. It comes pre-programmed and fully operational when packaged, ensuring immediate use upon setup. The transmitter features three buttons: a power indicator light, an activation button, and an on/off button. To activate the transmitter, the user presses the on/off button, which causes a red LED to blink twice, indicating that the unit is ready for operation. If the transmitter is not turned off manually or if there is no activity on the activation buttons for five minutes, it will automatically shut down to conserve battery life. The activation buttons, located above the power button and featuring raised surfaces, are used to send commands to the receiver once the transmitter is turned on.

Programming a New Transmitter: While transmitters are typically pre-programmed, the system allows for programming new transmitters to a receiver. The programming procedure involves several steps:

  1. Enable the transmitter: Press the power button; the LED will flash twice.
  2. Hold a directional button: Press and hold either directional button on the transmitter for approximately one second.
  3. Apply power to the receiver: While continuing to hold the transmitter's activation button, apply power to the receiver device.
  4. Confirmation: After about one second, a relay on the receiver will click, indicating that the transmitter is now programmed to the receiver. It is crucial to exercise caution during this process, as the device may start operation once programmed. Once a transmitter is learned, this programming process should not need to be repeated.

Safety Warning: A critical safety feature emphasized in the instructions is the warning: "Never operate the wireless remote from outside the boat." This ensures that the operator maintains direct visual and situational awareness of the motor and its surroundings during operation, preventing potential accidents or unintended movements.

Maintenance Features

Battery Replacement (Transmitter): One of the common issues that can affect the system's performance is a low battery in the transmitter, leading to a "Weak Signal." To replace the battery:

  1. Remove the back cover: Unscrew the screw on the back of the transmitter.
  2. Careful removal: Gently remove the back cover, paying attention to how the rubber membrane is seated within the case.
  3. Replace battery: Remove the old battery and insert a new standard 12VDC A23 type battery. It is recommended to always carry an extra A23 type battery for convenience.
  4. Reinstall cover: Reinstall the back cover, ensuring the rubber membrane is properly seated.
  5. Tighten screw: Install the screw and tighten it carefully, avoiding over-tightening.
  6. Proper disposal: Dispose of the old battery properly.

Troubleshooting Weak Signal: Beyond a low battery, a weak signal can also be caused by an obstructed receiver. To address this:

  • Relocate receiver: Move the receiver to a position where it has a direct line of sight with the transmitter.
  • Clear antenna: Ensure that the receiver's antenna is not obstructed by any objects.

FCC Compliance and Interference: The device complies with FCC Part 15 regulations, meaning its operation is subject to two conditions: it must not cause harmful interference, and it must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. If the equipment causes harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:

  • Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
  • Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
  • Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected.
  • Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help. It is important to note that any changes or modifications not approved by MarineTech Products, Inc. will void the user's authority to operate this equipment.

Warranty and Service: The PANTHER Model 55-0105 comes with a warranty covering defects in material and workmanship for a period of one year from the date of original retail purchase. Positive proof of purchase is required for warranty service. If the service required is covered by warranty, the unit will be repaired or replaced with new or factory rebuilt parts at no charge. Defective components must be returned with transportation charges prepaid, including the user's name, address, telephone number, and a copy of the sales receipt. All sales receipts are subject to verification.

The warranty does not cover damage resulting from accidents, abuse, misuse, poor installation, misapplication, modifications, or if the serial number has been removed or altered. It also does not cover expenses for removing or reinstalling the unit. If a returned unit is not covered by warranty, the sender will be notified of the estimated repair or replacement charges and return shipping costs.

The warranty explicitly disclaims coverage for special, incidental, or consequential damages and any implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. No dealer, agent, or employee is authorized to modify, extend, or add to this warranty. Users are advised to call the provided service number for special instructions on shipping and handling if service is required. If the service is not covered by warranty, replacement parts are available for purchase via credit card.
