Overview

This document is an Installation and Operation Instruction Manual for Coast Air portable air conditioners, specifically models CEP081C (8,000 BTU) and CEP101C (10,000 BTU).

Function Description

The Coast Air portable air conditioner is designed for household use to provide cooling, dehumidification (Dry mode), and fan-only operation. In Cool mode, it cools and dehumidifies a room, ideal for hot, muggy weather. The Dry mode is specifically for reducing room humidity during damp periods, such as spring and autumn. The Fan mode circulates air without cooling or dehumidifying. The unit features a self-diagnosis system to identify malfunctions and displays error messages on its screen.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Models: CEP081C (8,000 BTU), CEP101C (10,000 BTU)
  • Refrigerant: The manual mentions GWP (Global Warming Potential) values for R410A (2088), R134a (1430), R290 (3), and R32 (675), indicating the unit uses fluoridated greenhouse gases within a hermetically sealed system. Users are advised to check the nameplate for the specific refrigerant used.
  • Power Supply: 60Hz, 115V AC, protected by a 15 amp time delay fuse or circuit breaker.
  • Integrated Circuit Breaker: The power cord features an integrated circuit breaker with TEST and RESET buttons for safety.
  • Room Temperature Limits:
    • Cooling: 64°F-95°F (18°C-35°C)
    • Heating (not explicitly mentioned as a mode, but temperature range is provided): 50°F-77°F (10°C-25°C)
  • Room Humidity Limits: 30%RH - 80%RH
  • Clearance: A minimum of 17.7" (45cm) clearance around the unit is required for efficient air conditioning.
  • Exhaust Hose Length: Best kept to a minimum of 15.7" (40cm) to avoid sharp bends or sags.
  • Remote Control Range: Up to 23ft (7 meters) without obstacles.

Usage Features

  • Control Panel & Remote Control: The unit can be operated via a control panel on the unit or a remote control.
  • Modes:
    • Cool Mode: Selectable target temperature range of 64°F-90°F (18°C-32°C). Recommended room temperature during summer is 75°F-81°F (24°C-27°C). Fan speed can be set to High or Low.
    • Fan Mode: Circulates air. Two speeds available: High/Low. The air hose is not needed in this mode.
    • Dry Mode: Reduces room humidity. Fan speed is automatically selected by the appliance. The air exhaust hose must be attached to discharge moisture outside.
  • Timer Function: Allows for delayed start-up or shutdown, programmable from 1 to 24 hours.
  • Temperature Unit Switch: The display unit can be switched between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F) by holding the "A" and "▽" buttons simultaneously for three seconds.
  • Sleep Function: Reduces operation gradually for night use. In Cool mode, the selected temperature increases by 1°C (1°F) per hour over a 2-hour period and is maintained for the next 6 hours before the unit turns off. Fan speed is always low in Sleep mode. Available in FAN and DRY modes as well.
  • Swing Function: The manual states that this serial model does not have an auto swing function; deflectors must be adjusted manually.
  • Portability: Equipped with castors for easy movement on smooth, flat surfaces. Caution is advised when moving on carpeted or wood floors.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning the Cabinet: Clean with a slightly damp cloth, then dry with a dry cloth. Do not use water directly, petrol, alcohol, solvents, or insecticide liquids.
  • Cleaning the Air Filters: Clean weekly for efficient operation. Remove the evaporator from the back grid, use a vacuum cleaner for dust, or immerse in warm water (not hotter than 104°F/40°C) and rinse if very dirty. Dry thoroughly before reattaching.
  • Water Drainage:
    • Manual Draining: When the internal safety tank is full (indicated by "PF" or "FE" error on display), unplug the unit, remove the lower drain plug, and collect water in a pan. Replace the plug firmly after draining.
    • Continuous Draining: Unplug the unit, remove the drain plug, and connect a 1/2" (12.7mm) drain hose (may not be supplied) to continuously drain water into a floor drain or bucket. Ensure the drain hose is not higher than the drain outlet.
    • Middle Drainage (Dry Mode): Similar to continuous draining, but using a middle drain plug for Dry mode operation.
  • End of Season Operations: Completely drain internal water by removing the cap and collecting water in a basin. Clean and thoroughly dry the filter before storing.
  • Battery Replacement (Remote Control): Remove the cover, insert two AAA 1.5V batteries in the correct position. Do not mix old and new batteries or different types of batteries. Remove batteries for extended storage.
