It operates on 22 channels, including seven shared with FRS/GMRS, seven FRS-only, and eight GMRS-only channels, along with 38 privacy codes to reduce interference. The device also features 10 NOAA All Hazards Radio channels, allowing users to listen to weather alerts and other hazard information in their area.

    • 22 FRS/GMRS channels with frequencies ranging from 462.5625 MHz to 462.7250 MHz.
    • Power output: 1.0 Watt for GMRS channels (1-7, 15-22) and 0.5 Watt for FRS channels (8-14).
    • 38 CTCSS (Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System) privacy codes.
    • 10 NOAA All Hazards Radio channels.
  • Display and Controls:

    • Backlit LCD display for easy viewing in various lighting conditions.
    • Dedicated buttons for Talk, Lock, Call, Mode, Light/Max Range, Volume Up/Down, and Channel Up/Down.
    • Icons on the display indicate Lock, VOX, Roger Beep, Low Power, Battery Low, Receive/Transmit, Main Channel Numbers, CTCSS Privacy Code Numbers, Scan, and NOAA All Hazards Radio.
  • Power Supply:

    • Operates on four AAA alkaline batteries.
    • Battery life: Approximately 24 hours (based on a 5:5:90 ratio of transmit:receive:standby).
    • Battery operating range: 4.2-6.0V.
    • Features a Battery Low icon that blinks when power is low, prompting battery replacement or recharging (if using rechargeable batteries).
    • Auto Battery Save mode automatically switches the radio to a low-power state after 10 seconds of no transmissions, extending battery life.
  • Audio and Communication:

    • Speaker/Microphone Jack: Allows connection of an external speaker/microphone for hands-free operation.
    • Call Alert: Transmits a two-second call tone to alert another person. Ten selectable call tone settings are available.
    • Roger Beep Confirmation Tone: An audible tone transmitted when the Talk button is released, signaling to the other party that you have finished speaking. This feature can be turned On or Off.
    • Voice Activated Transmit (VOX): Enables hands-free communication by automatically transmitting when you speak. VOX sensitivity levels (1-5) can be adjusted to fit voice volume and avoid background noise.
  • Scanning Features:

    • Channel Scan: Automatically scans all 22 channels and stops on an incoming transmission for 10 seconds.
    • Privacy Code Scan: Scans privacy codes (00-38) within a selected channel to detect incoming transmissions.
  • Range and Performance:

    • Maximum range extender feature to achieve maximum range.
    • Auto Squelch automatically shuts off weak transmissions and unwanted noise. This can be temporarily turned off.
    • Range is affected by terrain and conditions: maximum in flat, open country; reduced by buildings and foliage; further reduced by dense foliage and hilly terrain.
    • On FRS channels 8-14, the radio automatically switches to low power, limiting range.

Usage Features:

  • Turning On/Off: Press and hold the Power button until audible tones indicate the radio is On.
  • Selecting Channels: Use the Channel Up or Channel Down buttons to select any of the 22 channels. Both radios must be tuned to the same channel to communicate.

  • Communicating: Press and hold the Talk button, speak into the microphone (about 2 inches away), and release to listen for a response.
