Overview

The Coleman 8 D Quad Lantern is a versatile lighting solution designed for various outdoor and indoor applications, offering both broad area illumination and independent portable light sources. This lantern is engineered for ease of use, durability, and user safety, making it a reliable companion for camping, emergencies, or general utility.

Function Description

The primary function of the 8 D Quad Lantern is to provide illumination. It operates on eight "D/LR20" batteries, with alkaline batteries recommended for optimal performance and extended life. The lantern features a central "Docking Station" that houses four Removable Area Lights. When the lantern is in "ON" mode, all four Removable Area Lights illuminate, providing 360 degrees of area lighting.

A key feature of this lantern is its modular design, allowing the four Removable Area Lights to be detached and used independently. Each Removable Area Light functions as a self-contained light source, complete with its own On/Off switch. When these individual lights are reattached to the "Docking Station" on the main lantern, they are automatically recharged by the "D" cell batteries in the lantern base, ensuring they are ready for subsequent use. This dual functionality makes the lantern highly adaptable, capable of serving as a central light source for a large area or providing multiple individual lights for different tasks or locations.

Usage Features

Operating the 8 D Quad Lantern is straightforward. To install or replace batteries, the lantern must first be turned off. The base is then unscrewed by rotating it counter-clockwise. Eight "D/LR20" batteries are installed, ensuring correct orientation as indicated on the battery housing. The base is then screwed back on clockwise until hand-tight, confirming it is securely installed. It is crucial to avoid mixing old and new batteries, or different battery types (alkaline, standard carbon-zinc, or rechargeable), as this can lead to overheating and damage to the lantern.

In its primary lantern mode, the device is activated by pressing the On/Off Switch located on the top of the lantern. This action simultaneously illuminates all four Removable Area Lights, providing comprehensive area lighting. Pressing the switch again turns the lantern off.

The Removable Area Lights offer enhanced versatility. To detach an individual light, the user presses a Release Button on the front of the Removable Area Light while simultaneously pulling forward on its handle. This action releases the light from its locked and charging position. Once removed, the Removable Area Light can be lifted out and used independently. If the main lantern mode is active, the remaining Removable Area Lights will continue to illuminate. Each detached Removable Area Light has its own On/Off Switch on its back, allowing for individual control. These lights are designed to be carried by their handle or placed on a flat surface for stable illumination. To return a Removable Area Light to the lantern, it is simply placed back into the "Docking Station," and its handle is rotated back to the locked position. Once docked, the lantern's main On/Off Switch overrides the individual light's switch, and the light begins recharging.

The operating time of the lantern varies depending on whether it is used continuously or intermittently, with intermittent use extending battery life. The LEDs are designed for longevity and do not require replacement. The lantern is designed to be transported using the handle located on its top.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of the Coleman 8 D Quad Lantern. It is important to avoid leaving discharged batteries in the product for extended periods, as this can cause permanent damage. All batteries should be replaced at the same time to maintain consistent power and prevent issues.

For cleaning the exterior of the lantern and the lenses of the Removable Area Lights, a damp cloth and mild dishwashing liquid are recommended. Users should avoid excessive water and strong cleaners, as these can damage the lantern's components.

Regarding battery disposal, the manual emphasizes responsible recycling. Batteries should not be discarded with normal trash but taken to designated collection points. This is due to the presence of certain substances (such as mercury, lead, cadmium, zinc, and nickel) in used batteries, which can be hazardous to the environment and human health if not disposed of properly. Similarly, the lantern itself, as an electronic device, is subject to selective sorting at the end of its service life. It should be taken to a waste recycling center and not disposed of with unsorted municipal waste, thrown away outdoors, or burned. This ensures that recyclable materials are recovered and hazardous substances are managed responsibly, mitigating potential adverse effects on human health and the environment.

The product is covered by a two-year warranty from the purchase date, covering parts and labor for products that are defective or do not conform to the order. This warranty ensures repair, replacement, or reimbursement for qualifying issues, provided the damage does not result from abuse, improper maintenance, unauthorized repairs, or use of non-original parts. Proof of purchase is required for warranty service.
