  If your Columbia Lawn Mower engine cranks but won't start, first ensure the throttle or choke is in the correct starting position (refer to the OPERATION section of this manual). Check if the gasoline tank is empty and fill it if needed. Also, inspect the fuel line and in-line fuel filter for blockages; clean the fuel line and replace the fuel filter if necessary. Make sure the spark plug lead is connected. If there's still no start, use a spark tester to check for spark. If no spark is present, have the engine’s magneto serviced by an authorized engine dealer. A dirty air cleaner may also be the cause; refer to the engine manual packed with your unit.

Also, check the battery installation, making sure the negative terminal (marked 'NEG', 'N', or '-') is connected to the black ground wire and the positive terminal (marked 'POS', 'P', or '+') is connected to the thick red wire going to the solenoid. A dead or weak battery can also prevent cranking; charge it with a 12-volt automotive-type battery charger at six amps for one hour or until fully charged. Finally, a blown fuse or a dead short in the cranking or charging circuit can be the culprit.
