This document describes the Columbus Single Brush Machine and Accessories, a robust cleaning device designed for industrial and professional use.
Function Description
The single brush machine is primarily designed for scrubbing, polishing, cleaning waterproof and abrasion-resistant floors, and shampooing textile coverings inside buildings. It operates by means of a rotating brush or pad holder, which aids in its forward motion. The operator guides the machine using a handle, controlling its movement by slightly raising or lowering the guide bar.
Optional accessories enhance its versatility:
- Spray device: Allows for the application of detergents during cleaning.
- Fluid tank: Provides a continuous supply of cleaning fluid, regulated by a dosing lever.
- Suction ring / vac unit: Can be attached to vacuum dry polish dust and swarf, starting automatically a few seconds after the main machine is switched on.

All models are rated for Class I safety. The maximum floor gradient for operation is 10%. The appliance is equipped with a thermal fuse to prevent motor overload, allowing it to restart after a 5-10 minute cooling period.
Usage Features
The machine is designed for ease of assembly and operation, with clear instructions for various tasks:
- Assembly: The guide bar is attached to the machine body using threaded bolts and nuts, with a positioning lever allowing adjustment of the handle's working position. Accessories like the spray device, fluid tank, and suction unit have specific mounting procedures, often involving holders, snap connections, and hose attachments.
- Setting the guide bar: The guide bar's position can be adjusted for comfortable working or vertical storage/transport by pulling a positioning lever. The stiffness of the swivel joint can also be adjusted using an Allen key.
- Moving the appliance: For transport, the guide bar is set vertically, and the machine is tilted backward and pushed by the handle. For lifting, two people are required.
- Switching on/off: To switch on, the operator presses a push button on the switch housing with their thumb and pulls one of the switch levers with their fingers. To switch off, both levers are released. The machine should always be controlled with both hands while running.
- Controlling movement: The machine is "self-propelling." To move left, the guide bar is slightly lowered; to move right, it is slightly raised.
- Cleaning tool attachment/removal: The cleaning tool (brush or pad holder) is inserted into the drive disc with a short, sharp anticlockwise movement to lock it, and removed with a clockwise turn. This must always be done with the appliance unplugged and while wearing protective gloves.
- Detergent use: Only manufacturer-approved detergents should be used, and liquids warmer than 40°C or liquid wax should not be filled into the spray can or fluid tank. Cleaning agents can be hazardous, so skin and eye contact should be avoided, and manufacturer's guidelines for concentration and safety data sheets must be followed.
- Safety during operation: Operators must always guide the machine with both hands, move cautiously, and keep clear of people and objects. It is forbidden to run over the mains power cable, thresholds, steps, carpets, or objects that could get caught. The machine should never be left unattended, and unauthorized persons should be kept away.
Maintenance Features
Regular maintenance is crucial for safe and reliable operation:
- Cleaning: The machine should be cleaned with a moistened cloth (and mild detergent if necessary).
- Ventilation: Ensure the motor's ventilation slots on the machine body are not clogged to maintain proper cooling.
- Bumpers: Verify that the bumpers on the machine body fit tightly and are correctly positioned.
- Cables and connections: Regularly check cables, plugs, and sockets for damage such as wear or scorch marks.
- Cleaning tools: After use, brushes should be rinsed with clean water (and detergent if very dirty) and allowed to dry. Fluid tanks should be thoroughly rinsed with clear water.
- Storage: The machine should be stored in a dry, frost-free place.
The manual also includes a troubleshooting guide for common issues like the machine not starting, not running smoothly, or gyrating, providing possible causes and remedies. A list of accessories available from the manufacturer, such as different brush strengths, drive plates, vacuum units, container tanks, cleaning products, spray devices, pads, and extension cables, is also provided.
