Warranty Information

Overview

The ComforTrac Cervical™ Device is a home cervical traction device designed to provide effective, comfortable, and proper cervical traction to relieve chronic or acute pain. It aims to replicate the traction treatment a patient might receive from a physical therapist or clinician, allowing for convenient use at home, work, or while traveling.

Function Description

The primary function of the ComforTrac Cervical™ Device is to apply controlled traction to the cervical spine. This process helps to decompress spinal structures, relax muscle spasms, and alleviate pain associated with musculoskeletal or neurological impairments of the cervical spine. The device utilizes a pneumatic hand pump to generate and control the traction force, which is then applied to the cervical area. The head carriage, supported by a traction rail, moves as force is applied, gently stretching the neck. The device is designed to ensure that the treatment force, usage, position, and duration are precise, based on a clinician's recommendations. It is important to note that while the device helps relieve pain, it does not cure the underlying cause of the pain and should not be used as a substitute for proper medical evaluation and treatment.

Usage Features

The ComforTrac Cervical™ Device incorporates several features to ensure ease of use, comfort, and safety during treatment:

  • Hand Pump & Gauge: The device comes with a pneumatic hand pump that allows users to adjust the traction force. As air is pumped into the diaphragm chamber, a gauge displays the amount of force being applied in pounds/kgs. This enables precise control over the treatment intensity as prescribed by a clinician. The hand pump also includes a release button to quickly return the head carriage to a neutral position, which can also be used for intermittent traction or in emergencies.
  • Head Carriage: This component provides comfortable support for the head and neck during traction. It moves along the traction rail as force is applied, facilitating the stretching action.
  • Forehead Strap: An adjustable forehead strap helps secure the head in the proper position, ensuring stability and effective traction application.
  • Diaphragm: The diaphragm is responsible for moving the head carriage along the traction rail, translating the pneumatic pressure into traction force.
  • Neck Wedges: Manually adjustable neck wedges (with 5 positions) are designed to comfortably fit the back of the head and neck. A wedge cap is included for a more custom fit, allowing users to optimize comfort and positioning according to their clinician's recommendations.
  • Adjustable Slide Stand: The device features a slide stand that can be effortlessly adjusted to provide traction at specific angles: 10°, 15°, and 20°. This adjustability allows for customized treatment angles based on individual needs and clinical guidance.

Before use, users are advised to familiarize themselves with the instructions, paying close attention to recommended traction force, duration, hold and relax times for intermittent traction, daily/weekly treatment frequency, and neck wedge positioning. The device should be placed on a firm, flat, non-slippery surface, such as a carpeted floor, with enough space for the user to lie down in a fully extended position. The neck wedges should be positioned as recommended by a clinician, and the forehead strap loosened.

To begin treatment, the user lies on their back with their neck between the neck wedges, ensuring the head carriage is in the starting position. The forehead strap is then adjusted for a snug fit. The user repositions their body so the base of the head fits firmly between the neck wedges without any gap. Traction is initiated by gradually pumping the hand pump until the prescribed force is reached, monitoring the gauge to avoid exceeding the recommended amount. The hand pump automatically holds the pressure. If the traction force reading drops due to head movement, the user can slowly pump back to the desired force. After the treatment duration, the release button is pressed to release traction, and the forehead strap is loosened. Users are advised to relax for a few minutes before removing their head from the device. In case of emergency or if the recommended traction force is exceeded, the release button should be fully depressed and held to return the device to neutral position immediately.

Maintenance Features

The ComforTrac Cervical™ Device is designed for durability and accuracy, featuring a high-quality gauge. For cleaning, only mild detergents should be used. The device should be stored in a cool, dry place. If the unit has been stored in temperatures exceeding 100°F (38°C) or below 50°F (10°C), it should be allowed to return to ambient temperature before operation to ensure proper function. If the traction force reading drops during use, it is most likely due to head movement or repositioning, and the user can slowly pump back to the desired force. The device is warranted for three years from the date of shipment against defects in workmanship and materials, with repairs or replacements handled by ComforTrac, Inc. This warranty does not cover accessories or damage due to misuse, unauthorized repairs, or alterations.
