Overview

This document describes the ViaAqua® Titanium Heater, a fully submersible heating device designed for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums.

Function Description

The ViaAqua® Titanium Heater is designed to maintain a stable water temperature in an aquarium. It features a titanium heating element and an adjustable temperature setting, controlled by a remote temperature sensor. The device is intended for indoor household use only.

Important Technical Specifications

The heater is available in four wattage models, each suitable for different tank sizes:

  • VA-50TH: 50 W, for tanks < 50 Liters / 13 Gallons
  • VA-100TH: 100 W, for tanks < 100 Liters / 25 Gallons
  • VA-200TH: 200 W, for tanks < 200 Liters / 50 Gallons
  • VA-300TH: 300 W, for tanks < 300 Liters / 80 Gallons

The adjustable temperature range is from 68-93°F (20-34°C). The device includes an easy-to-read LCD display for temperature readings and a compact design. It must be fully submersed in water at all times and requires a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) for safe operation.

Usage Features

Installation:

  1. Heater and Sensor Placement: Select the appropriate wattage heater for your aquarium. Place the heater and its remote sensor in an area with good water circulation. The heating element and sensor must be in the main body of the aquarium, not on or covered by the substrate, and not in filtration. Affix the sensor a minimum of 4 inches away from the heating probe using the provided suction cups. Both the heating probe and sensor must be in the same body of water.
  2. Controller Placement: Secure the temperature controller above the aquarium, affixing it to the wall. The controller must never come into contact with water to prevent electrical arcing, fire hazards, and premature unit failure.
  3. Thermometer Placement: Attach an accurate thermometer to the opposite side of the aquarium for independent temperature verification.
  4. Acclimation: Allow 10-15 minutes for the heater to acclimate to the aquarium temperature before plugging in the controller.
  5. Drip Loop: When plugging the ViaAqua® Titanium Heater into a GFCI outlet, ensure a drip loop is arranged for each cord connecting an aquarium appliance to an electrical outlet. This is the part of the cord hanging below the receptacle.
  6. Power Connection: Plug the temperature controller into a GFCI outlet. Do not use extension cords or power strips.
  7. Water Circulation: Verify there is good water circulation around the heating probe.

Setting the Temperature:

  1. Celsius/Fahrenheit Selection: Press and hold the "set" button for 3-4 seconds until the LCD display changes between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F).
  2. Temperature Adjustment: Press the "set" button once; the LCD temperature readout will blink. Press the button repeatedly to raise the desired set temperature by 1 degree with each press. Once the desired temperature is reached, wait 3-4 seconds for the LCD to stop blinking, which sets the heater's temperature.
  3. Heating Indicator: When the unit is actively heating, a red light will illuminate, and the LCD will display the actual aquarium temperature. If you pass the desired temperature, continue pressing the button until the reading cycles back to 68°F (20°C).
  4. Verification: Confirm the temperature with the independent thermometer. A small difference between the controller and thermometer readings is normal; adjust accordingly.

Troubleshooting ("ER" Error Code): If the unit controller's LED displays "ER" (indicating overheating):

  • Check for good water circulation around the heater.
  • Verify that both the heating probe and the sensor are fully submersed in water.
  • To reset, press the red button, and the heater should resume working.

Maintenance Features

General Maintenance:

  • Always disconnect the heater from the power supply prior to any aquarium maintenance.
  • When removing the heater from the aquarium, it must be unplugged for 30 minutes prior to removal to allow it to cool down.
  • Ensure the plug and receptacle are clean and free of moisture, salt buildup, calcium, magnesium, and dust at all times. Failure to do so can lead to fire, property damage, product damage, and personal injury.
  • Do not operate the heater if any of the cords are damaged.
  • Do not operate the heater out of water.
  • The temperature controller must not come into contact with water or moisture.

Warranty: The ViaAqua® Titanium Heater comes with a one-year limited warranty from the initial purchase date, covering defects. The warranty is void if failure is due to misuse, tampering, negligence, abuse, accident, submersion, improper installation, maintenance, cleaning, reassembly, or failure to use with a GFCI.

Consumer Remedies: In case of a defective unit, the sole remedy is repair or replacement. The defective unit must be returned directly to Commodity Axis, Inc.® with the original receipt and packaging, along with a $7.00 shipping and handling fee. Returns should not be sent by insured mail but can be sent via UPS requiring a signature. Replaced units are warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period. Commodity Axis, Inc.® is not liable for consequential or incidental damages, including lost sea life, personal injury, or property damage.

Returns: To arrange repair or replacement, contact the service center at (888) 838-3882 or fax (888) 989-0878. Allow 4-6 weeks for returns. Commodity Axis, Inc.® does not ship to or respond to P.O. Box addresses.

Warranty Card: A warranty card can be downloaded from http://www.viaaquaoceanpure.com/main/resources.html. Fill out the card and mail it with proof of purchase within 15 days of purchase.
