This document provides a quick start guide for the Compex Edge 3.0, Performance 3.0, and Sport Elite 3.0 devices, which are EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) and TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) units. The Sport Elite 3.0 is pictured as an example.
Device Function and Intended Use
The Compex EMS device is designed to stimulate healthy muscles to improve or facilitate muscle performance. It's important to note that the muscle work imposed by Compex programs is not suitable for rehabilitation and physiotherapy.
The Compex TENS device is intended for:
- Temporary relief of pain associated with sore and aching muscles due to strain from exercise or normal household and work activities.
- Symptomatic relief and management of chronic, intractable pain, and relief of pain associated with arthritis.
This device is an Over-The-Counter product intended for use by adults only.
Contraindications
The Compex device should never be used on:
- Atrophied muscles, muscles with spasms, or muscles associated with a limb with a painful or afflicted joint.
- For muscle reeducation, to prevent or retard disuse atrophy, to prevent venous thrombosis, to maintain or increase range of motion, or for blood flow deficiencies.
Do not use the Compex device if you have one or more of the following medical conditions:
- Persons with cardiac pacemakers, defibrillators, or other implanted metallic or electronic devices. Such use could cause shock, burns, electrical interference, or death.
- If diagnosed with epilepsy, without consulting a physician.
- Following acute trauma or fracture, or recent surgical procedures.
- If you have critical ischemia of lower limbs, or other serious arterial circulation problems in lower limbs.
- If you have abdominal or inguinal hernia.
- If you have cancerous lesions.
- Over the abdominal region during pregnancy.
- If you have sensitivity problems or are unable to express yourself.

Usage Features
The device features a user-friendly interface with several components:
- A: Silicone sleeve for protection.
- B: LCD display for program selection and settings.
- C: Channel LED indicators to show active channels.
- D: Channel buttons for adjusting stimulation intensity per channel.
- E: Key Up, F: Key Left, K: Key Right, M: Key Down for navigation.
- L: Confirmation button to select options.
- J: On/Off switch to power the device.
Quick Start Instructions:
- Read the User Manual: Thoroughly read the Compex User Manual, available at compex.com.
- Connect Cables: Plug the color-coded cables into the electrode sockets on the bottom of the device.
- Connect Electrodes: Each electrode cable has a red snap (positive lead) and a black snap (negative lead). Snap the leads onto the electrodes.
- Electrode Placement: Position yourself comfortably and place each electrode pad according to the Electrode Placement Guide diagrams provided (e.g., Mid Back, Quads, Shoulder, Hamstrings, Triceps, Abdominals).
- First-Time Use: Hold down the power button for 2 seconds. The language menu will appear. Select your language, then set the date and time.
- Program Selection: Push the confirmation button (B) to select a category (e.g., Muscle Building, Warm Up & Recovery, Pain Management), then select the desired program (e.g., Endurance, Resistance, Strength, Explosive Strength).
- Body Part and Level Selection: Select the appropriate body part and the desired level (recommended to start at level 1). Click the Confirmation button (B).
- Adjust Stimulation Energy: Adjust stimulation energy on multiple channels by pressing the channel button and using the center navigation wheel (Up/Down keys). Stimulation energy is displayed above the channel button. Increase energy to the maximum comfortable level and muscle contraction.

- Mid Back: For Active Recovery.

Maintenance Features
Charging the Stimulator:
- Before recharging, remove all electrode cables connected to the stimulator.
- Ensure the charge pin is aligned with the USB charging cable.
- Important: Never try to plug in the electrode cables simultaneously with the USB charging cable.
- G: USB charging socket (Push aside the rubber cover, then directly plug in the USB charging cable).
