Do you have a question about the Concept Smoke Screen SENTINEL S30 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Concept Smoke Screen Sentinel S30 is a security fogging system designed to obscure visibility and deter intruders. It operates by heating a non-toxic fluid under pressure to create a thermally generated fog that rapidly fills a space, making it impossible for intruders to see and steal. The system is intended to be integrated with existing intruder alarm systems but can also be configured as a standalone unit.

Function Description:

The core function of the Sentinel S30 is to produce a dense, persistent fog upon activation, effectively creating a visual barrier. This fog remains suspended in the room for a significant period until the area is vented. The system uses a sophisticated electronic control system to maintain an ideal operating temperature with minimal electricity consumption. It offers flexible interfacing with intruder detectors and alarm systems to ensure reliable protection and prevent accidental activations.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Supply: Requires a 230-volt AC, 50Hz mains supply.
  • Fluid Capacity: Fitted with a 500ml transparent bag containing 'Smoke Fluid'.
  • Smoke Production Time: Variable between 15 seconds and 6 minutes. The default setting is 15 seconds, which covers approximately 75 cubic meters of smoke. This can be extended in 15-second increments up to the maximum.
  • Warm-up Time: Approximately 20 minutes to reach operating temperature.
  • Mains Fuse: 10 Amp.
  • UPS (Un-interrupted Power Supply) Support: Can be integrated with a UPS to provide power for electronic circuits and the pump for 1 hour after a mains power failure, allowing for a full smoke activation. UPS monitoring can be enabled or disabled.
  • Mounting: Can be wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted.
    • Wall-mounting: Optimum position is 2.5 meters above the floor, facing the protected area, using an appropriate angle nozzle. Maximum height is 3 meters, minimum is 1 meter. No obstacles within 1 meter of the nozzle.
    • Ceiling-mounting: Optimum height is 2.5 meters above the floor, over the protected area, using a straight nozzle. Maximum height is 3 meters. No obstacles within 1 meter of the nozzle.
  • Inputs:
    • Alarm Set: Normally closed relay, opens when the alarm system is set.
    • Trigger: Normally closed relay, opens when the alarm system confirms an intruder alert.
    • Hold-off: Normally closed PIR or movement sensor, opens when movement is detected. Additional N/C relays or micro switches can be connected for secondary hold-off. All hold-off connections must be open for smoke production.
  • Outputs:
    • Ready: Indicates the system is ready to operate.
    • Low Fluid: Indicates low fluid level.
    • UPS Status: Indicates the status of the UPS.
    • Verification Output: Changes state when the S30 fires.
  • Tamper Circuits: Three tamper circuits: one on each cover (front and fluid) and an external tamper input on the PCB. The external tamper input can be disabled with a jumper. An 'open' tamper state does not prevent activation.
  • LED and Sound Indications: Provides on-board status monitoring via an LED and a sounder for various conditions (e.g., overheating, cover open, UPS fault, mains power failure, heater fault, heating up, programming mode, ready to operate, waiting for hold-off, activated, low fluid, empty fluid).

Usage Features:

  • Activation Control: Smoke production requires all three input connections (Alarm Set, Trigger, and Hold Off) to be in an 'open circuit' state (default). This can be configured to 'closed' if needed.
  • Re-triggering: If a hold-off alarm is received after the pre-set smoke time, and Alarm Set and Trigger inputs are open, the system will re-trigger and produce smoke again.
  • Stand-alone Test: The system can be tested by pressing the "PB1" button on the PCB when the LED is steady green (ready to operate). This produces smoke only while the button is pressed and does not check input connections.
  • Automatic Disablement on Power Restore: After a temporary power loss, the Smoke Screen is automatically disabled for 60 seconds to allow the Hold-off PIR to stabilize, preventing false alarms.
  • Programming:
    • Smoke Time: Set by changing Dip Switch 2 to 'ON', pressing 'PB1' for 10 seconds (sets to 15 seconds), and then pressing 'PB1' repeatedly to extend time in 15-second increments.
    • UPS Monitoring: Set by changing Dip Switch 2 to 'ON', pressing 'PB2' for 10 seconds (toggles on/off).
    • Trigger Mode: Dip Switch 1 controls whether inputs activate on 'normally closed going open' (ON) or 'normally open going closed' (OFF).

Maintenance Features:

  • Fluid Management: The fluid level is monitored by an on-board timer that measures consumption. Replacing the fluid bag and cycling the micro switch resets this timer.
  • Fluid Bag Replacement: Requires power to be applied. Involves opening the fluid access panel, unscrewing retaining screws, pushing the fluid probe to the "out" position, placing the new bag, inserting the retaining screw, and ensuring the bag neck is correctly seated and the fluid micro switch is activated.
  • Servicing: Recommended annually by an engineer certified by the manufacturer. Fluid should be changed annually. Servicing is also recommended after two or more activations.
  • Fault Clearing: Any remaining fault indications can be cleared by removing and restoring mains power to the Smoke Screen once the issue is resolved.
  • Warning: Only Concept Smoke Screen fluid should be used to prevent damage or noxious fumes.
