Do you have a question about the Conductix-Wampfler MU-705 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Conductix-Wampfler MU-705 is a hand-held programming device designed for programming, parameterizing, and manually controlling Conductix/LJU devices, specifically those equipped with an electronic vehicle controller and compatible software. There are two main variants: the standard MU-705 and the MU-705 TF, which is a tropicalized version.

Function Description

The primary function of the MU-705 is to facilitate data exchange between the hand-held unit and a vehicle controller via infrared communication. This enables users to:

  • Program and Parameterize: Transfer parameters and configurations to vehicle controllers.
  • Update Software: Download software updates (.hex files) to vehicle controllers using the Program Manager.
  • Manual Control: Remotely control vehicles to a certain extent, with a limited range of one meter.
  • Information Retrieval: Read vehicle information, such as plant numbers, serial numbers, USER-software versions, and BIOS information from the controller.
  • Data Backup and Modification: Connect to a computer with the "MU-705 Utility Software" (separate description) for data backups and modification of parameterization data.
  • Diagnostic Functions: Access error logs, perform IR tests, and view BIOS exceptions for troubleshooting.
  • Table Management: Read, write, modify, and verify various tables (e.g., speed tables, hoist tables, rotation tables) stored in the controller.
  • Identification Menu (ST-8xx series only): Automatically recognize and adjust motor parameters like stator resistance, stator inductance, and angle offset.

Important Technical Specifications

The MU-705 is housed in an impact-resistant plastic casing, colored green-blue (RAL 5020).

  • Dimensions: 230 mm (H) x 97 mm (W) x 58 mm (D).
  • Weight: 460 g.
  • IP Protection Class: IP 30.
  • Display: LCD with a resolution of 128 x 64 pixels.
  • Operation Buttons: 18 embossed buttons on a user-friendly membrane keypad.
  • Power Supply: Rechargeable 4.8 V NiMH battery (2000 mAh).
  • Average Power Consumption: Approximately 160 mA.
  • Charging: Through an external charging device.
  • Data Transmission: Infrared (IR / IRDA standard).
    • Transmission Rate: 9600 bit/s (Slow infrared) or 62500 bit/s (Fast infrared). The MU-705 (WNR CWA-60060967) supports both, while other MU-705 variants and the MU-705 TF support only Fast infrared (62500 bit/s).
    • Range: 1 meter.
    • Angle of Reflected Beam: ± 16°.
  • Connectivity: USB interface for connection to a computer.
  • Ambient Conditions:
    • Operating Temperature: +10 °C to +50 °C.
    • Storage Temperature: -10 °C to +50 °C.
    • Relative Humidity: < 80% non-condensing.
    • Tropicalized Version (MU-705 TF): Specifically designed for tropical environments.

Usage Features

The MU-705 features a menu-driven interface, making it intuitive to navigate.

  • Menu Navigation: Arrow keys are used for scrolling, number keys for direct selection, and the [Enter] button for confirmation. The ESC key allows returning to the previous menu.
  • Function Buttons (F1-F3): These buttons are assigned context-sensitive actions depending on the active menu.
  • Display Modes: The device can select various display modes for the vehicle controller, such as position or voltage displays.
  • Language Selection: The interface language can be configured.
  • Power Management:
    • PowerDownTime: Configurable automatic switch-off time (2 to 40 minutes in 2-minute steps) to save battery.
    • Backlight: Settings for background illumination (Auto, On, Off) to optimize visibility and energy consumption.
  • Keyboard Delay: Adjustable button delay (500 to 900ms in 50ms steps).
  • Infrared Communication Speed: For specific MU-705 models, the infrared transmission speed can be set to either slow (9600 bit/s) or fast (62500 bit/s).
  • Accessories Menu: Includes a stop clock with four time measurements and a pocket calculator function (supporting decimal and hexadecimal input).
  • Password Protection: Certain functions, like program download, are password-protected to ensure secure operation.

Maintenance Features

  • Spare Parts: Only original spare parts from the manufacturer should be used. Defective devices should be sent for repair with a description of the error scenario. The plant number (WNR) is crucial for ordering spare parts.
  • Repair: Defective devices should be sent to the manufacturer for repair. Unauthorized modifications are not permitted and can lead to damage and void the warranty.
  • Battery Disposal: Batteries must be disposed of according to applicable provisions, not as domestic waste. Local collection points or professional companies should be used, and battery contacts should be taped to prevent short circuits.
  • Environmental Specifications: Individual components should be dismantled, segregated, and disposed of or recycled according to current stipulations, especially materials marked with the recycling symbol or green dot.
  • Software Updates: User manuals and software (including "MU-705 Utility" and necessary drivers) are available for download from the manufacturer's website, ensuring the device can be kept up-to-date.
