Overview

This document provides installation and user instructions for a Cookworks microwave oven, model SEB177S1B-P. It covers safety information, materials suitable and unsuitable for microwave use, setup, operation, cleaning, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

Function Description

The microwave oven is designed for heating food and beverages. It utilizes microwave energy, generated by a magnetron, which is evenly distributed through food as the glass turntable revolves, ensuring uniform cooking. Microwaves are absorbed by food up to approximately 1 inch (2.5cm), with cooking continuing as heat dissipates through the food. The oven can perform various cooking functions, including microwave cooking at different power levels, express cooking, weight defrost, time defrost, multi-stage cooking, and a preset function for delayed start.

Usage Features

General Operation: The oven is equipped with a control panel featuring a display, number pads (0-9), and dedicated buttons for various functions. The display shows cooking time, power, indicators, and the current time. The maximum cooking time that can be set is 99 minutes and 99 seconds.

Setting the Clock: The microwave oven supports both 24-hour and 12-hour clock formats. To set the clock, press the "CLOCK" button, use the number pads to adjust the hour and minute, then press "CLOCK" or "START" to confirm.

Microwave Cooking: To cook with microwave power, first press "POWER LEVEL" and use the number pads to select the desired power level (from 0% to 100%). Then, press "TIME" once and use the number pads to set the cooking time. Finally, press "START" to begin cooking. The oven will display "END" and emit beep sounds when cooking is finished. Any button press or opening the door will clear the "END" display.

Express Cooking: This feature allows for quick cooking at 100% power. In standby mode, pressing the "EXPRESS" button once starts cooking for 15 seconds. Each additional press increases the cooking time, with a maximum express cooking time of 2 minutes. Cooking time increments are 15 seconds (once), 30 seconds (twice), 1 minute (3 times), and 2 minutes (4 times).

Weight Defrost: The oven can automatically defrost food based on its weight. To use this feature, press "DEFROST/WEIGHT" multiple times to select the food category (Meat, Poultry, Seafood), then use the number pads to enter the weight. Press "START" to begin defrosting. During defrosting, the system will sound to remind the user to turn the food over.

Time Defrost: This function allows defrosting food based on a set time. Press "DEFROST/TIME" once, then use the number pads to enter the desired defrosting time (up to 99:99). Press "START" to begin. Similar to weight defrost, the system will prompt the user to turn the food over during the process.

Multi-stage Cooking: The oven can be programmed for up to two automatic cooking sequences. This allows for cooking at different power levels and times in succession. Express cooking, time defrost, and weight defrost cannot be set within a multi-stage cooking program. Respective lights will illuminate to indicate the current cooking stage, and beep sounds will signal the end of the first stage.

Preset Function: This feature allows the user to set the oven to start cooking at a later time. The clock must be set before using this function. To set, program the desired cooking time and power level, then press "PRE-SET" and enter the desired start time using the number pads. Press "START" to confirm. The oven will automatically begin cooking when the set time is reached. While the preset function is active, other cooking functions cannot be operated. The preset function can be cancelled by pressing "PRE-SET" followed by "STOP/CANCEL".

Child Lock: To activate the child lock, touch the "STOP/CANCEL" pad for over 3 seconds in standby mode. A "beep" will sound, and the "LOCK" indicator will illuminate. To unlock, touch the "STOP/CANCEL" pad for over 3 seconds again; a "beep" will sound, and the "LOCK" indicator will disappear.

Utensils and Materials: Only utensils suitable for microwave ovens should be used. Materials like aluminum foil (in small, smooth pieces away from oven walls), browning dishes, microwave-safe dinnerware, heat-resistant oven glassware (without metallic trim), oven cooking bags, paper plates/cups, paper towels, parchment paper, microwave-safe plastic containers, plastic wrap, microwave-safe thermometers, and wax paper are generally suitable. Materials to avoid include aluminum trays, food cartons with metal handles, metal or metal-trimmed utensils, metal twist ties, paper bags, plastic foam, and wood, as these can cause arcing, fire, melting, or damage to the oven or food. Liquids and other food must not be heated in sealed containers as they are liable to explode. Eggs in their shell and whole hard-boiled eggs should not be heated in microwave ovens. Foods with heavy skins, such as potatoes, squashes, apples, and chestnuts, should be pierced before cooking.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning: Regular cleaning of the microwave oven is crucial to prevent grease and food particles from building up, which can pose a fire hazard. The interior should be cleaned after each use with a mild detergent solution (e.g., washing-up liquid) and warm water on a soft cloth. For stubborn spots, a branded cleaning spray can be applied to a damp cloth, but direct spraying inside the oven should be avoided. A suggested method for cleaning the interior is to place half a lemon in a bowl with 300ml water, heat it on 100% microwave power for 10 minutes, then wipe the oven clean with a soft, dry cloth.

Removable Parts: The turntable may be cleaned at the sink, taking care not to chip or scratch its edges. The turntable roller rest should also be cleaned regularly. The turntable glass should not be immersed in cold water.

Special Care: For optimal performance and safety, the inner door panel and the oven front frame must be kept free of food residue. Water should not be allowed to seep into the ventilation openings to prevent damage to the internal operating parts. The light brown Mica cover attached to the oven cavity, which protects the magnetron, should never be removed.

Troubleshooting: The manual includes a troubleshooting chart to address common issues such as the oven not starting, arcing or sparking, unevenly cooked food, overcooked food, undercooked food, incomplete defrosting, noise from the turntable, and the oven light not glowing. If problems persist, contacting an authorized service center is recommended.

Safety: The oven has built-in safety switches to ensure power remains off when the door is open. It is hazardous for anyone other than a competent person to carry out service or repair operations involving the removal of covers that protect against microwave energy exposure. The appliance should not be operated if the door or door seals are damaged. A minimum clearance of 12 inches (30cm) must be left above the oven, and 3 inches (7.5cm) between the oven and any adjacent walls, with one side open. The oven should not be operated empty. The appliance must be earthed, and the power cord and plug should be regularly checked for damage.
