Overview

This document describes the Cookworks 17 Litres Microwave, model P70J17P-VB. It is a freestanding microwave oven designed for household and indoor use only.

Function Description

The microwave oven is designed for cooking, reheating, and defrosting food. It operates by generating microwaves that heat food from within. The user can select different power levels and set a cooking time up to 30 minutes. Cooking and defrosting can be interrupted by opening the door, and settings are retained when the door is closed, allowing cooking to resume once the door is shut. A bell sounds when the cooking time is complete, and the microwave automatically turns off.

Usage Features

The microwave features a control panel with a POWER/ACTION SELECTOR knob and a TIMER KNOB.

  • POWER/ACTION SELECTOR: This knob allows the user to choose from various cooking power levels:
    • LOW (20% Power)
    • DEFROST (42% Power)
    • M. LOW (52% Power)
    • MED (73% Power)
    • M. HIGH (88% Power)
    • HIGH (100% Power)
  • TIMER KNOB: This knob is used to set the cooking time, up to a maximum of 30 minutes. For times below 2 minutes, it is recommended to turn the timer past 2 minutes and then back to the desired time for accuracy.
  • Door Release Button: Used to open the microwave door.
  • Interlocking Catches: Safety mechanism for the door.
  • Glass Turntable: Ensures even cooking by rotating the food.
  • Installation: The microwave is designed to be freestanding. It requires a level surface and adequate ventilation with clearances of 20cm at each side, 30cm above, and 10cm at the rear. The minimum installation height is 85cm. The power cable should not be near sharp or hot surfaces and should not pose a trip hazard.
  • Food Preparation: Food should be placed in suitable microwave-safe containers and covered. Lids should be removed, and plastic films pierced before cooking. Vessels with sealed or restricted openings should not be used. The skin or membranes of food items like potatoes, apples, fish, chicken, and eggs should be pierced in several places before cooking.
  • Safety during use: Never cook or heat eggs in their shell or whole hard-boiled eggs, as they may explode. Beverages can result in delayed eruptive boiling, so care must be taken when handling containers. If preparing food or liquid for a baby, stir or shake the contents and check the temperature before consumption to avoid burns.
  • Post-cooking: Allow food to stand for 30 seconds to one minute after cooking or defrosting to allow the temperature to become uniform.
  • Stopping Operation: The microwave can be stopped at any time by turning the timer to '0' or by opening the door.
  • Empty Operation: Never operate the oven when empty, as this can lead to overheating and damage to the magnetron.
  • Ventilation: Do not cover the microwave and ensure adequate ventilation.
  • Hot Surfaces: The surfaces of the oven and internal containers will become hot during and immediately after use; oven gloves should be worn when handling.
  • Container Safety: Regularly check during the cooking cycle, especially when using plastic or paper containers, to ensure food and containers do not ignite.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning: The oven and seals should be cleaned regularly, on a weekly basis, to remove food debris. Failure to maintain cleanliness can lead to deterioration of surfaces or seals, affecting the oven's life and potentially creating a hazardous situation.
  • Cleaning Procedure:
    1. Switch off, unplug the oven, and allow it to cool completely.
    2. Wipe surfaces and seals with a soft damp cloth (not wet).
    3. Do not use abrasive cleaning products or metal scrapers, as these can damage the surface and cause breakage.
    4. Do not immerse the microwave in water. Do not use a steam cleaner.
  • Turntable Cleaning: The glass turntable and turntable roller can be washed in hot water with a little washing up liquid. They are NOT SUITABLE FOR DISHWASHERS.
  • Drying: Always allow surfaces to fully dry before using the oven again.
  • Waveguide Cover: Do not remove the waveguide cover.
  • Fuse Replacement (Non-rewireable plug): If the appliance has a non-rewireable plug and the fuse needs changing, the fuse cover must be refitted. If the fuse cover is lost or damaged, the appliance must not be used.
  • Rewireable Plug: If the appliance has a rewireable plug, the wires in the mains lead are coloured according to UK electrical code: BLUE (Neutral) to terminal N, BROWN (Live) to terminal L, and GREEN + YELLOW (Earth) to terminal E or the earth symbol. Rewireable plugs should only be replaced by a suitably competent person.
