Overview

This document describes the Crimestopper Cool Start™ Remote Engine Starter and Keyless Entry with DP Technology, a remote start system designed for vehicles. It covers the operation, features, and maintenance of several models: RS1-G5, RS3-G5, RS4-G5, RS4-G5 FM (1-Way System), and RS7-G5 FM (2-Way Paging System).

Function Description:

The core function of this device is to remotely start a vehicle's engine, providing convenience and allowing the vehicle to warm up or cool down before entry. It also integrates keyless entry features (door lock/unlock) and can be expanded with optional functionalities like trunk release, dome light illumination, horn honk, and anti-grind. The system is designed to be professionally installed and includes safety features to prevent accidental starts and unauthorized driving.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Remote Control Types:
    • RS1-G5: Single button remote control.
    • RS3-G5: 4 vertical buttons (Lock, Unlock, Vehicle Select, Start).
    • RS4-G5 FM: 1-way FM remotes (comes with two).
    • RS7-G5 FM: 2-way LCD Pager and a 1-way FM remote.
  • Remote Start Activation Options (Option #6):
    • Double Press (2 presses of Start button).
    • Single 1/2 second press (Default).
    • Press and Hold Start button for 2 seconds.
  • Remote Start Run Time (Option #20): Adjustable from 5 to 30 minutes.
  • Hourly Cold-Start Mode: Selectable for 1, 2, 3, or 4 hours.
  • Turbo Timer Mode (Option #22): Allows engine to run for 1, 3, or 5 minutes after key removal (Default = OFF).
  • Transmitter Codes: The system can learn up to 4 different transmitter codes.
  • Battery Type (1-button remote): Two CR-1620 Lithium batteries.
  • Battery Type (4 & 5-button remotes): Two CR-2025 Lithium 3 Volt Batteries.
  • FCC Compliance: Complies with FCC Rules part 15, subject to not causing harmful interference and accepting received interference.

Usage Features:

  • Remote Engine Starting: Pressing the remote start button (according to the selected activation option) initiates the starting sequence. Parking lights flash, then turn solid, and ignition/accessory circuits activate. The starter motor engages, and once the engine starts, parking lights and accessory circuits turn back on, and doors lock. The engine runs for the programmed time or until reset by the brake pedal or remote.
  • Turning Off Remote Started Engine: Pressing and releasing the remote start button (or double pressing if option #6 is on) turns off the engine and parking lights, and re-locks/re-arms the doors.
  • Entering a Remote Started Vehicle: Unlock the system with the remote or key, enter, turn ignition to ON/RUN, then press the brake pedal to reset the remote starter and shift out of park.
  • Remote Start Run Time Reset: After a successful remote start, pressing both Lock & Unlock buttons together for at least 2 seconds resets the engine-run timer.
  • LOCK with REMOTE START and After REMOTE START ABORT (Option #8): Controls automatic locking during and after a remote start abort or time-out.
  • Idle Down Mode: Allows the engine to continue running after the ignition key is removed, for a programmed time (10, 20, 30 minutes, or Infinity Run – Default = 20 minutes). Useful for quick stops.
  • Timed Self-Start Mode (Hourly Cold-Start): Programs the vehicle to self-start every 1, 2, 3, or 4 hours and run for the programmed time, beneficial in extremely cold conditions.
  • Manual Transmission Mode (Option #11): Includes safety check-out procedures for manual transmission vehicles to ensure the vehicle is in neutral before remote start.
  • Remote Panic: Pressing the Lock button for more than 2 seconds sounds the vehicle horn and flashes parking lamps for 1 minute.
  • Keyless Entry (Optional): Remotely locks and unlocks vehicle doors. Parking lights flash once for lock, twice for unlock, and stay on for 30 seconds with unlock for illumination.
  • Auto Lock / Unlock (Option #2): Automatically locks/unlocks doors based on engine RPM (Tach mode) or a few seconds after ignition ON (Smart Tachless mode). Always unlocks when ignition is turned off.
  • Horn Chirps (Options #7, #13, #16): Provides audible confirmation chirps for lock, unlock, and remote start. Chirp sound duration is programmable.
  • OEM Alarm Interface (Optional): Disarms and re-arms factory security systems in conjunction with remote start and keyless entry.
  • Remote Trunk Release or Domelight Illumination (Option #9): Remotely opens the trunk or illuminates the interior light for 30 seconds upon unlock. Activation options include double press, single 1/2 second press (Default), or press and hold for 2 seconds.
  • Valet Mode: Disables the remote start function for servicing or when handing keys to a valet. Can be activated manually or with the remote.
  • 2 Vehicle Operation: Remotes can control a second vehicle with a Crimestopper system installed. The 2-Way Pager receives pages from both cars regardless of the selected vehicle.
  • 2-Way Data Port: Allows connection to a Databus Module to bypass factory immobilizers and operate keyless entry, reducing installation error and enabling control of various vehicle features (e.g., sliding doors, heated seats, rear defrost).
  • Smart Phone Data Port: A white 4-pin plug for direct data connection to the MS3 Smart Phone interface module (purchased separately), enabling APP-based control with smart phone.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Charging (2-Way LCD Remote): Features a battery charge indicator and charges via a standard Mini USB charging cable.
  • Setting the Clock (2-Way LCD Remote): Allows setting AM/PM, hour, and minutes via the remote's side buttons.
  • Remote Beep & Vibrate Selection (2-Way LCD Remote): Allows selection of beep and vibrate settings (on/off) for signal reception and run time reminders.
  • Battery Replacement: Instructions are provided for replacing batteries in 1-button, 4-button, and 5-button remotes. This typically involves removing screws, sliding covers, and replacing CR-1620 or CR-2025 Lithium batteries.
  • Remote Start Diagnostics: The system flashes the LED and parking lights one to seven times to indicate specific error codes (e.g., brake switch problem, hood switch problem, valet service mode, ignition/tach problem, manual transmission error) if remote start fails. This aids in troubleshooting.
