Overview

The Coredy N300 Mini Range Extender, Model WN300, is a versatile network device designed to enhance and extend existing WiFi networks. It can function as a WiFi range extender, an access point, or a router, offering flexibility for various networking needs.

Function Description:

  • WiFi Range Extender: The primary function of the WN300 is to boost the range of an existing WiFi network. It achieves this by repeating the signals from an existing WiFi router or access point, thereby increasing the distance of the WiFi network and improving overall signal quality in areas with poor or nonexistent coverage (often referred to as "dead zones"). When operating as an extender, it connects to an existing WiFi network as a client and then broadcasts its own WiFi network (SSID) for other WiFi devices to join. Data traffic routed through the extender is inherently slower than traffic routed directly from the main network, so it is recommended for use specifically in dead zones.
  • Access Point (AP): In Access Point mode, the WN300 receives data via a wired Ethernet connection (e.g., from a hotel's wired Ethernet) and converts it into a 2.4 GHz wireless signal. It then sends and receives wireless traffic to and from nearby wireless clients, effectively creating a new WiFi network from a wired source.
  • Router: The WN300 can also be used as a router, connecting to a modem (DSL or cable) via its WAN port to establish a new WiFi network for internet access. This mode allows for full network management and configuration.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: WN300
  • Wireless Standard: N300 (indicating a maximum theoretical speed of 300 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band).
  • Frequency Band: 2.4 GHz (for AP and Router modes).
  • Ports: Includes a LAN port and a WAN/LAN port, allowing for both wired and wireless connections.
  • LED Indicators: Features LEDs for Power, Wi-Fi, WPS, WAN, and LAN, providing visual status updates.
    • Power LED: Lit green when the router is starting; off when no power is supplied.
    • Wi-Fi LED: Blinking when Wi-Fi radio is operating; off when Wi-Fi radio is turned off.
    • WPS LED: Blinks light green during the WPS pairing process; off when WPS is not enabled.
    • WAN LED: Lit green when an Ethernet cable connection to an AP or other device is detected; blinking fast when sending/receiving traffic; off when no Ethernet cable is connected.
    • LAN LED: Lit green when an Ethernet cable connection to an AP or other device is detected; blinking fast when sending/receiving traffic; off when no Ethernet cable is connected.
  • Default IP Address: 192.168.10.253
  • Default Username/Password: admin/admin (for web browser login)
  • Input: 100-240V~, 50/60Hz, 0.3A

Usage Features:

  • Quick Installation Guide: The device comes with a quick installation guide for easy setup.
  • Setup Methods:
    • Web Browser Method: Users can connect to the extender's WiFi network ("Coredy WN300"), then access a web browser (http://192.168.10.253/ or http://ap.setup/) to configure the device. This method allows for selecting the operating mode (Repeater, AP, Router) and connecting to an existing WiFi network by entering its password.
    • WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) Method: For routers with a WPS button, users can press the WPS button on both the primary router/AP and the WN300 to establish a secure WiFi connection without manually entering network names and passwords. The WPS LED on the WN300 blinks during this process. Note that WPS does not support WEP network security.
  • Optimal Placement: For extender mode, it is crucial to place the device about halfway between the main router and the area with poor WiFi signal. An elevated location, minimizing walls and ceilings, is recommended. A smartphone can be used to determine the optimal spot for the extender-to-router connection.
  • Ethernet-Enabled Device Connection: After connecting to an existing WiFi network in extender mode, wired devices can be connected to the WN300 via an Ethernet cable to access the network through the WiFi connection.
  • Security Modes: Supports WAP/WPA2 Mixed security for wireless networks.
  • Access Control: Users can configure Access Control to allow or block specific devices from accessing the network based on their MAC addresses. This feature allows for creating "Allow listed" (only specified devices can access) or "Deny listed" (specified devices are blocked) rules.
  • Hide Wireless Network: The device allows users to hide its wireless network (SSID) from scanning lists, enhancing security by requiring users to know the exact SSID name to connect.

Maintenance Features:

  • Change Admin Password: Users can change the default admin password for enhanced security through the web browser interface under "Administration" settings.
  • Set Extender Time: The time and time zone of the extender can be configured via the web browser interface.
  • Save/Reload Router Settings: This feature allows users to save the current configuration settings and reload them easily, which is useful when resetting the router to factory settings or updating firmware.
  • Firmware Update: The extender's firmware (routing software) can be updated. Users are advised to check www.coredytech.com for new firmware versions. It is critical not to interrupt the upgrade process (e.g., by closing the browser or turning off the router) to avoid corrupting the firmware.
  • Factory Reset: The WN300 can be reset to factory settings by holding the Reset button (using a Reset Pin) for approximately 3 seconds while powered on. All lights will turn on, and then some will slow down flashing, indicating a successful reset.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides troubleshooting tips for common issues such as inability to log into the setup page, device disconnection, web browser setup issues, and difficulty joining a WiFi network. It also advises on how to address interference by changing wireless channels and suggests contacting technical support or using online resources for specific issues like DNS configuration.
