Overview

This document describes the COSORI 5.0-Quart Rice Cooker, a versatile kitchen appliance designed for cooking various types of rice, grains, and other foods.

Function Description

The COSORI rice cooker offers a wide range of cooking functions, primarily focused on rice and grains, but also extending to other cooking methods.

Rice Cooking:

  • White Rice: This function is designed for cooking white rice, with options for "LONG GRAIN" or "MED/SHORT" varieties. Users can also select the desired texture: "SOFT," "REGULAR," or "HARD."
  • Brown Rice: Specifically tailored for brown rice, this function also includes a "LONG GRAIN" option.
  • Quick Rice: This function cooks white rice faster than the standard white rice setting, though it may result in a slightly harder texture.
  • Porridge: Ideal for preparing rice porridge, this setting allows for adjustable cook times from 40 minutes to 2 hours.

Grain Cooking:

  • Oatmeal: The rice cooker supports cooking oatmeal, with options for "STEEL-CUT," "ROLLED," or "QUICK" oatmeal.
  • Grains: This general grain function includes specific settings for "QUINOA," "BARLEY," and "FARRO."

Other Cooking Functions:

  • Slow Cook: This function allows for slow cooking, with a time range of 5 minutes to 24 hours. The default time is 30 minutes, and the default temperature is 212°F / 100°C.
  • Steam: Designed for steaming food, this function has a time range of 1 minute to 1 hour, with a default of 10 minutes at 212°F / 100°C.
  • Sauté: This function enables sautéing, with a time range of 1 minute to 30 minutes, defaulting to 5 minutes at 320°F / 160°C.

Additional Features:

  • Keep Warm: After most cooking functions (except Sauté), the rice cooker automatically switches to Keep Warm mode, maintaining food at 158°F / 70°C for up to 24 hours. However, it is recommended to avoid leaving cooked rice in this mode for more than 5 hours, and cooked oatmeal or other cooked food for more than 3 hours.
  • Delay Timer: This feature allows users to delay the start of cooking for up to 24 hours. The food will finish cooking when the delay timer ends. This function is not available for Keep Warm, Sauté, or Quick Rice.

Usage Features

The rice cooker is designed for straightforward operation with a clear control panel and display.

Setting Up:

  1. Remove all packaging and place the cooker on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from steam-sensitive areas.
  2. Remove and wash the inner lid, steam cap, inner pot, steam basket, rice paddle, and measuring cup with hot, soapy water and a non-abrasive sponge. Dry and reinstall.
  3. Perform a test run by adding water to the "STEAM" level, selecting "STEAM" mode, and tapping START. This familiarizes the user with the cooker and cleans any residues.

Cooking Process (General Steps):

  1. Use the included measuring cup to measure uncooked ingredients, leveling off for accuracy.
  2. For rice, wash until the water appears clear.
  3. Transfer ingredients to the inner pot and add the appropriate amount of water, referencing the water level markings inside the pot.
  4. Place the inner pot in the rice cooker and close the lid, ensuring the inner lid and steam cap are properly installed.
  5. Plug in the rice cooker.
  6. Select the desired cooking function (e.g., WHITE RICE, BROWN RICE, OATMEAL, GRAINS, SLOW COOK, STEAM, SAUTÉ) using the dedicated buttons or the MODE button.
  7. Adjust cook time using the "+" and "-" buttons if applicable.
  8. Optionally, set a Delay Timer for delayed cooking.
  9. Tap START to begin the cooking function.
  10. The rice cooker will beep when finished and automatically switch to Keep Warm (for most functions).
  11. Tap CANCEL twice to stop the Keep Warm function.

Specific Function Notes:

  • Rice/Grains: The inner pot has water level markings for different rice types. If cooking 1 cup, refer to the "Grain : Water Ratio" chart in the manual.
  • Porridge: Cook time can be adjusted from 40 minutes to 2 hours.
  • Steam: Do not overfill the steam basket. "PrE" will show on the display during preheating, then the timer will count down.
  • Sauté: The lid can be left open or closed during preheating. Oil can be added before or after preheating. If food is added before preheating finishes, the countdown may not appear immediately.

Maintenance Features

Proper care and maintenance ensure the longevity and performance of the rice cooker.
