The Crestron Horizon® 2 series offers a range of custom engravable in-wall dimmers, switches, keypads, and accessories designed for sophisticated lighting control and integration into residential and commercial environments. These devices provide a consistent aesthetic with Horizon® 2 faceplates, making them suitable for new installations or retrofits.
Function Description
The Horizon® 2 line includes:
- HZ2-DIMEX: A forward-phase dimmer with infiNET EX® wireless communication, controlling incandescent, magnetic low voltage, and tungsten-halogen loads. It supports multiway control with HZ2-AUX or HZ2-KPEX devices.
- HZ2-DIMLVEX: A 0-10V dimmer and switch with infiNET EX® wireless communication, designed for 0-10V controlled ballasts and LED drivers. It includes an integrated switch for load power cutoff.
- HZ2-DIMUEX: A universal phase dimmer with infiNET EX® wireless communication, capable of controlling LED, incandescent, magnetic low voltage, and electronic low voltage loads. It features auto-load detection and adjustable dimming curves (linear, logarithmic, or custom). It also supports multiway control with HZ2-AUX or HZ2-KPEX devices.
- HZ2-SWEX: An in-wall switch with infiNET EX® wireless communication, managing incandescent, magnetic low voltage, tungsten-halogen, electronic ballasts, and 1/2 HP motors. It supports multiway control with HZ2-AUX or HZ2-KPEX devices.
- HZ2-KPEX: A keypad with infiNET EX® wireless communication, providing control for lighting, shading, audio, and other amenities. It can function as a multiway controller for HZ2-DIMEX, HZ2-DIMUEX, and HZ2-SWEX.
- HZ2-KPCN: A keypad with Cresnet® wired communication, offering control for lighting, shading, audio, and other amenities. It includes dual parallel Cresnet ports for daisy-chaining.
- HZ2-AUX: A multiway remote for controlling Horizon 2 dimmers and switches. It does not have an LED backlight and only accommodates a single large rocker button assembly (Style 6). It does not directly control a load but recalls functions defined on the connected load controller.
- HZ2A-KEY: A keystone plate that accepts 1, 2, or 4 keystone modules (sold separately), allowing for networking and AV equipment connections while maintaining the Horizon® 2 aesthetic.
- HZ2-BTNS: Replacement button assemblies available in six styles (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 button trees) for keypads, dimmers, and switches.
- HZ2-FP-G: 1, 2, 3, and 4-gang faceplates for Horizon® 2 devices, providing a finished appearance and customizable design elements.
All Horizon® 2 products are available in white (-W), almond (-A), and black (-B).

Usage Features
- Custom Engraving: Buttons can be custom laser-etched to identify functionality. Engraving files are provided at the time of order or can be updated. Blank button assemblies are also available for third-party engraving.
- Multicolor Backlit Button Assemblies: Engraved buttons are illuminated with RGB LED backlights. Each button can have custom color backlighting, with adjustable intensity and flashing for feedback. Thirteen local color themes are available, including Tunable White (default), Neutral White, Cool White, and other common colors. Themes can be changed programmatically.
- Field-Replaceable Button Assemblies: Button trees can be replaced without removing the device from the wall, allowing for function changes or use before final engravings.
- Multigang Expansion: Up to four Horizon® 2 devices can be installed side-by-side in a US multigang electrical box with compatible HZ2-FP-G series faceplates, creating a continuous control surface.
- Multiway Control: HZ2-DIMEX, HZ2-DIMUEX, and HZ2-SWEX support load control from multiple locations using traveler wires with HZ2-AUX or HZ2-KPEX devices.
- Standard Wall Mount: Designed for installation in standard electrical wall boxes.
- infiNET EX® Wireless Communications: Provides two-way RF communications, with each device acting as an expander to extend network range (approx. 150 ft indoors). Requires a Crestron Wireless Gateway.
- Cresnet® Wired Communications (HZ2-KPCN): Uses a 4-wire network bus for bidirectional data and 24VDC power. Dual parallel Cresnet ports simplify daisy-chaining.
- Ambient Light Sensor: For auto-dimming of backlights with separate day and night modes.
- Fully Programmable: Via a Crestron control system.

- Dimming Modes: HZ2-DIMEX can toggle between Non-Dim (switch) and Dim modes. HZ2-DIMUEX features auto-load detection for universal phase dimming and can be manually set to Auto Phase Dimming or Forward Phase Dimming.
- Air-Gap Switch: Located at the bottom of HZ2-DIMEX, HZ2-DIMUEX, and HZ2-KPEX to disconnect power to buttons, LEDs, and connected loads locally.
Maintenance Features
- Firmware Updates: Devices should run the latest firmware, available from www.crestron.com/firmware and loaded using Crestron Toolbox™ software.
- Button Assembly Replacement: Field-replaceable button trees allow for easy replacement of engraved or blank button assemblies.
- Ambient Light Sensor Calibration: The ambient light sensor can be manually calibrated to optimize backlight brightness based on room conditions.
- Troubleshooting: The module displays error codes via LED flashes for issues like over current, shorted FET, over temperature, over voltage, and overload. General troubleshooting steps are provided for common issues like device not functioning or LEDs not lighting.
