Do you have a question about the Crosley CR49 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Crosley CR49 is a 3-speed turntable designed for playing vinyl records. It comes with an instruction manual that outlines its features, specifications, and usage guidelines.

Function Description:

The primary function of the CR49 is to play vinyl records at three different speeds: 33 1/3, 45, and 78 RPM. It includes an AC adapter for power and has built-in speakers for audio output. The turntable features a tone arm, a speed control switch, and a volume knob that also serves as the ON/OFF switch. An adapter for 45 RPM records is included, allowing users to play singles.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Supply: AC adapter (DC 12V 0.5A) (Included)
  • Power Consumption: 15W
  • Speed: 33/45/78 RPM
  • Speaker: 3 x 5" Dynamic Type x 2

Usage Features:

  • Power On/Off and Volume Control: The unit is turned on by rotating the ON/OFF VOLUME KNOB (7) located on the front panel past the "click" position. This knob also controls the volume.
  • Speed Selection: A SPEED CONTROL SWITCH (4) allows users to select the desired playback speed (33 1/3, 45, or 78 RPM) to match the record being played.
  • Record Placement: Records are placed directly on the turntable (9).
  • Tone Arm Operation: To begin playback, the TONE ARM (2) must be pulled slightly to the right until a "click" sound is heard, activating the turntable. The tone arm is then manually moved to the desired starting point on the record and slowly lowered.
  • Automatic Stop: At the end of a record, the TONE ARM (2) will stop automatically. Users must manually return the tone arm to the TONE ARM REST (8).
  • 45 RPM Adapter: An ADAPTER (1) for 45 RPM records is provided and should be placed on the spindle when playing 45s.
  • FM Antenna: The unit includes an FM antenna that should be untied and allowed to hang down in a straight line for optimum FM reception. If tuning issues occur, the external FM antenna can be moved for better reception, but it should not be connected to an outside antenna.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The product should be unplugged from the wall outlet before cleaning. Only a damp cloth should be used; liquid or aerosol cleaners are not recommended.
  • User Serviceable Parts: The manual explicitly states that there are no user-serviceable parts inside the unit. The cover should not be removed, and servicing should be referred to qualified service personnel. Pilot lamps are soldered in place.
  • Needle Replacement: Needles are consumables and are available for additional charges. Contact information is provided for ordering replacement needles.
  • Packing Materials: Users are advised to save all packing materials for future use, especially if the unit needs to be returned for service.
  • Safety Warnings: The device includes important safety instructions, such as not exposing the appliance to rain or moisture, avoiding overloading wall outlets, and not pushing objects into the product's openings. It also warns against placing the product near water or heat sources and emphasizes the importance of proper ventilation.
  • Power Cord Protection: Power-supply cords should be routed to prevent them from being walked on or pinched, paying attention to cords at plugs, receptacles, and exit points from the product.
  • Lightning Protection: For added protection during a lightning storm or when unused for long periods, the unit should be unplugged from the wall outlet, and any antenna or cable system should be disconnected.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: A basic troubleshooting guide is provided for common issues like the unit not operating or no sound. This includes checking the AC adapter connection, ensuring the volume knob is turned on, verifying the needle cover is removed, and confirming the tone arm is activated.

Warranty Information:

Crosley Radio Products are warranted against defects in material and workmanship for 90 days from the date of sale to the original purchaser. If the unit fails under normal usage during this period, a Return Authorization (R.A.) must be obtained from Crosley Radio customer service before returning the unit. A fee of $19.95 (check or money order) is required to cover handling and return postage. The warranty does not cover damage due to acts of nature, accidents, misuse, abuse, negligence, commercial use, modification, improper operation or maintenance, connection to improper voltage supply, attempted repair by unauthorized personnel, or products sold "AS IS" or consumables like fuses or batteries. The warranty is valid only in the United States. The purchaser's bill of sale is the only proof of warranty entitlement.
