Overview

This document is an instruction manual for the CRUX Espresso Capsule Coffee Maker, a small kitchen appliance designed and engineered in New York City. The manual provides essential information for safe and effective use, including important safeguards, technical specifications, usage instructions, and maintenance guidelines.

Function Description:

The CRUX Espresso Capsule Coffee Maker is designed to brew espresso using NESPRESSO® Original line capsules. It features two programmable cup sizes: a small cup (approximately 1 to 1.5 oz. or 30-45 mL) and a large cup (approximately 2 to 3 oz. or 70-90 mL). The machine heats water and forces it through a coffee capsule to produce espresso. It is intended for household use only and is not suitable for commercial purposes.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Compatibility: Compatible with NESPRESSO® Original line capsules.
  • Water Tank: Removable water tank with a MAX fill line.
  • Cup Sizes: Pre-programmed small cup (1-1.5 oz.) and large cup (2-3 oz.), with programmable volume up to 100 mL (3.3 oz.).
  • Power: Operates on standard outlet voltage, which should correspond to the rating label. A polarized plug is used to reduce the risk of electric shock.
  • Temperature: Operating and storage temperature should be above 32°F (0°C).
  • Standby Mode: The unit enters standby mode and indicator lights turn off after 4 minutes of inactivity.

Usage Features:

  • First-Time Use: Before first use, the red silicone plug and warning sticker must be removed from the water tank. The unit requires an initial flush cycle by filling the water tank, placing it on the base, and pressing the large cup button without a capsule to dispense water.
  • Brewing Process:
    1. Fill the removable water tank with drinkable water, not exceeding the MAX level.
    2. Lift the handle completely to open, insert a coffee capsule, and push the handle down to close.
    3. Position a cup on the drip tray cover.
    4. Plug the power cord into an outlet.
    5. Press either the small cup or large cup button. The corresponding indicator light will flash, and coffee will begin to dispense.
    6. Coffee flow stops automatically when the desired quantity is reached, and the lights become solid.
  • Interrupting Brew: The brewing process can be interrupted by pressing the selected coffee button once. Pressing it again will resume brewing.
  • Low Water Indicator: If water levels are low during brewing, both indicator lights will flash quickly. The water tank needs to be refilled and properly replaced to continue brewing.
  • Capsule Ejection: After brewing, used capsules are automatically discarded into the used capsule container by opening the handle.
  • Programming Water Volume:
    1. Add fresh water to the tank.
    2. Once indicator lights stop flashing, insert a capsule and place a cup under the coffee spout.
    3. Press and hold either the small or large cup button. Release the button when the desired volume is reached. The new volume is then stored. The maximum programmable volume is 100 mL (3.3 oz.).
  • Reset to Factory Settings: To reset the unit, press and hold both the small and large cup buttons for 5 seconds. The buttons will flash quickly 3 times to confirm the reset.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Never immerse the cord, plug, or unit in water or other liquid.
    • Do not operate the appliance with a damaged cord or plug.
    • Do not lift the brew handle during the brewing process due to extremely hot water.

    • Do not open the brew chamber during the brew process.
    • Some parts are hot during operation; use handles or knobs only.
    • Do not leave the appliance unattended.
    • Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
    • Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during brewing cycles.
