Overview

The CRUX ARTISAN Series 12" x 16" Smokeless Grill & Griddle is a versatile kitchen appliance designed for indoor grilling and griddling with minimal smoke. This instruction manual and recipe guide provides comprehensive information on its operation, maintenance, and various cooking possibilities.

Function Description:

The appliance serves as both a smokeless grill and a griddle, allowing users to cook a variety of foods without the typical smoke associated with traditional grilling. It features interchangeable grill and griddle plates, enabling different cooking styles. The integrated smoke-less cooling drip pan helps to reduce smoke by cooling drippings. An adjustable temperature control probe is the central control unit, allowing precise temperature settings for different recipes.

Important Technical Specifications:

The device operates on a standard 120 V AC electrical circuit. It is recommended to use a separate electrical circuit to avoid overloading. The cooking surface measures 12" x 16", providing ample space for preparing meals. The temperature control probe allows for adjustable temperatures ranging from 200°F to 400°F. The appliance is equipped with a grounded 3-wire cord (3-prong plug) for safety.

Usage Features:

Before first use, the appliance requires unpacking, removal of all packaging materials, and placement on a clean, flat working surface. It is advised to place a hot pad or trivet underneath the unit to protect countertops from prolonged heat. The non-stick cooking plates should be washed with mild dishwashing soap and dried before initial use. The drip pan is placed inside the unit base, and either the grill or griddle plate is then placed over it, locking into position. Water should be added to the drip tray up to the maximum line.

To operate, the temperature control knob on the probe is turned to the OFF position before securely plugging the probe into the unit's socket and then into a wall outlet. The unit should be preheated for approximately 10 minutes by setting the temperature control to the desired level (200°F to 400°F). An indicator light on the probe illuminates during preheating and turns off once the selected temperature is reached. During cooking, the light will cycle on and off to indicate temperature maintenance.

The manual includes a time/temperature chart for various foods such as chicken, bacon, sausage, French toast, hamburger, ham, sandwiches, pork chops, and steaks, along with recommended cooking times and instructions like "Rotate halfway into cooking time." USDA cooking guidelines are also provided, emphasizing internal temperatures for different types of meat and poultry to ensure food safety.

Recipes are included to inspire users, such as "Grilled Corn with Chipotle and Lime Aioli," "Grilled Chicken, Avocado and Asparagus Power Bowl," and "Lamb Skewers With Grilled Zucchini, Kalamata Olives, and Crumbled Feta." These recipes provide detailed ingredient lists, prep/cook times, and step-by-step instructions for using the grill/griddle.

Maintenance Features:

The appliance is designed for low maintenance. The temperature control probe should be handled carefully to avoid affecting its calibration. To clean the probe, it should be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and thoroughly dried; it is not submersible. The grill and griddle plates, along with the drip pan, can be washed in mild dishwashing soap and water. The plates are also dishwasher safe, with placement on the top rack recommended for best results.

For stubborn food particles, a plastic scouring pad and mild dishwashing liquid can be used. Metal scouring pads or abrasive cleaners should be avoided as they can damage the non-stick surface. Cooking sprays are not recommended as they can cause build-up and affect the non-stick performance.

The manual provides specific steps for stain removal and proper care of the non-stick coating:

  1. Identify stained areas on the cooking surface and sprinkle baking soda on them.
  2. Moisten the baking soda with water to create a paste-like texture.
  3. Let the paste stand on the stains for a few minutes (no more than an hour).
  4. Rub with a soft damp cloth or lightly scrub with a plastic scouring pad, then wipe clean and dry thoroughly.
  5. Repeat if necessary. This process will not affect the non-stick performance.

To prolong the life of the non-stick surface, users are advised not to stack objects on the cooking plates and to use nylon, plastic, wooden, or rubber utensils. High temperatures can cause discoloration and shorten the lifespan of the non-stick surface, so medium to low heat is generally recommended for best cooking results.

The appliance should be allowed to cool completely before cleaning. The temperature control probe should be removed from the unit after cooking and cleaning instructions are followed. Any service requiring disassembly beyond cleaning should be performed by a qualified appliance repair technician.
