CHOKE AND THROTTLE CABLE ADJUSTMENT
The choke control cable must be correctly adjusted for
proper engine starting and good engine performance.
Check the choke operation before making any cable
adjustments. Remove the air cleaner element (See
Maintenance Section IV) and observe the choke plate
position. With the choke control knob pushed all the
way in, the plate must be completely open. With the
choke control pulled all the way out, the plate must be
completely closed.
If the choke is not operating properly, adjusts the
choke and throttle control cables as follows:
1. Engage the brake pedal lock, turn the ignition key
to the “OFF” position, and remove the key from the
ignition switch.
2. Remove the air cleaner cover and element (See
Maintenance section) to observe the choke plate.
3. Loosen the screw securing the cable clamp to the
engine control bracket (See Figure 17). Make
certain the choke control knob is pushed all the
way in and the throttle control lever is in its lowest
speed setting.
4. Rotate, and hold, the choke and throttle control
arms clockwise so that the choke plate is fully open
and the throttle shaft arm is against the idle stop
screw (See Figure 17).
5. While holding the control arms, pull the slack out of
the cables and tighten the cable clamp screw.
Check both cables for smooth operation.

ENGINE SPEED ADJUSTMENT
The engine has a precision manufactured carburetor
which has no mixture adjustments. Engine speeds are
preset at the factory for maximum efficiency. The en-
gine speeds should only be adjusted by a competent
mechanic.
WARNING
Use care when working around moving parts
and hot surfaces on the engine.
1. Engage the brake pedal lock, start the engine, and
move the throttle control lever to the lowest speed
setting.
2. Using a good tachometer, measure the low idle
engine speed which should be 1400 RPM. Adjust
the low idle speed stop screw as needed to attain
1400 RPM ( See Figure 18).
3. Move the throttle control lever to the high speed
setting and measure the engine speed which
should be 3500±100 RPM. The throttle control arm
should contact the throttle stop plate.
4. Loosen the screw securing the throttle stop plate to
the engine control bracket and adjust the stop plate
as needed to contact the throttle control arm at the
specified high engine speed (See Figure 18).
NOTE: It may be necessary to readjust the throttle
control cable setting.
5. Holding the control arm and stop plate in position,
tighten the clamping screw.
