8. Start the engine and allow it to run for a few
minutes. Shut the engine off, then check for leaks
and re-check the oil level in the transmission case.
CAUTION
The oil fill plug/dipstick MUST BE INSTALLED
SECURELY INTO THE FILL PORT AT ALL
TIMES WHEN THE ENGINE IS OPERATING.
AIR CLEANER
Check the air cleaner daily or before starting the
engine. Check for loose or damaged components and
remove any buildup of dirt and debris.
NOTE
Operating the engine with loose or damaged air
cleaner components will allow unfiltered air into
the carburetor, causing extensive wear and
eventual failure of the engine.
Servicing Foam Wrapper
Wash and re-oil the foam wrapper at one month
intervals, or after every 10 hours when operating
under dusty or dirty conditions.
1. Stop the tractor engine before servicing the air
cleaner. Rotate the quarter-turn fastener
counterclockwise to its vertical position, then lift
the outer cover to remove it (See Figure 24).
2. Remove the foam wrapper by sliding it off the
paper element (See Figure 24).
3. Wash the foam wrapper in warm water with
detergent. Rinse the foam wrapper thoroughly until
all traces of detergent are eliminated. Squeeze out
excess water in a dry cloth (do not wring). Allow
the foam wrapper to air dry.
4. Saturate the foam wrapper with new engine oil.
Knead the oil into the wrapper and squeeze out all
excess oil. Failure to adequately remove excess
oil from the wrapper may cause a drop in engine
power due to a restriction of inlet air.
5. Replace the foam wrapper when it becomes torn
or stretched.
6. Reinstall the foam wrapper over the paper
element, covering all exposed paper pleats.
7. Reinstall the outer air cleaner cover by placing the
cover over the base and into the groove at the
bottom of the base. Push the quarter-turn fastener
into the hole in the base, then rotate clockwise to
its horizontal position to lock the cover in place.
