The CUES LAMP II is a self-propelled lateral inspection and mainline inspection system designed for use in sewer pipelines. It integrates a self-propelled lateral launcher, a transportation platform, and two cameras (one for pan, tilt, and optical zoom operations in the mainline, and one for lateral launching).
Function Description:
The LAMP II is designed to perform pan and tilt inspections of mainline sewer pipes while simultaneously viewing and inspecting lateral pipes. The mainline camera, located at the front of the LAMP II, provides a pan, tilt, and optical zoom view of the mainline pipe. It is used to locate laterals for inspection and to monitor the insertion of the lateral camera. The lateral camera is fixed to a push cable and is transported through the mainline sewer pipe within the LAMP II. Once a lateral is located, the launcher guides and directs the lateral camera into the lateral service. The self-propelled launcher extends and retracts the mini-camera and push cable into the lateral for inspection. The system can display both lateral and mainline footage with picture-in-picture (PiP) capabilities.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Pipe Diameter: Capable of one-pass inspections of 6 to 36-inch mainline sewer pipes and 3 to 8-inch house lateral pipes.
- Lateral Cable Length:
- Stainless Steel Cable Option: up to 100 feet into a lateral pipe.
- Fiberglass Cable Option: up to 180 feet into a lateral pipe.
- Mainline Camera: Integrated pan/tilt/zoom (OZIII camera) with LED lightheads and homing capabilities.
- Lateral Camera: Self-upright camera with LED light-ring and camera centering ball. An optional Lateral Pan & Tilt Camera is available, offering continuous 360-degree rotation and pan, white LED lighting, scratch-resistant sapphire window, detachable steering wand for navigating multiple wyes and bends, two camera lens window wipers for in-pipe cleaning, an automatic powered self-leveling camera head, and four banks of LEDs with variable light intensity.
- Sonde (optional): Built into the lateral mini-camera, operates with any constant tone, 512Hz locator/receiver for accurate camera location.
- Cable Type: Multi-conductor cable, approximately ½" in diameter, containing 8 to 12 conductors (12 conductors required for LAMP II operation).
- Reel: Operates on up to 1000 feet of multi-conductor cable utilizing dual cable reels. The lateral reel stores the lateral video cable and electrically retrieves it, with variable speed/force control. The new fiberglass cable reel stows both lateral video and push cables.
- Wheels: Six tires/steel wheels or four pneumatic wheel assemblies are available in four different sizes for 6-inch to 36-inch pipe sizes. Pneumatic wheel assemblies maximize traction in pipes 12 inches and larger.
- Chute & Tube Kits (optional): Available to adapt the LAMP II to larger pipe diameters (18 to 36 inches). Modular chutes consist of a breech and clear polycarbonate tubes. Two breeches are available: straight (P/N LM362) for standard wheels and angled (P/N LM363) for large wheels.
Usage Features:
- Controllers: Can be operated with a stand-alone controller, game pad, or wireless controllers.
- 1208 PCU Systems: Desktop controller for camera and lateral launcher movements (LAMP II, OZII, OZIII cameras), and a separate controller for transporter direction and speed.
- K2 Summit Systems: Ergonomic, hand-held, wireless controller for all camera, transporter, reel, LAMP II lateral launcher, and camera lift functions. An optional wireless, compact game pad controller is also available.
- Quick-Change Wheel Assemblies: Designed for maximum efficiency and ease of use when adapting to different pipe sizes. Anti-seize compound (P/N CS407 or P/N 940700 grease) must be applied to all screw threads when changing wheels.
- Remote Reel Controller (P/N LM353): Allows switching between release and retrieve modes for the lateral reel from a desktop, overriding the functions on the lateral reel controller or PCU button.
- Line Tracing: A terminal post on the LAMP II Reel allows connection of a transmitter (MS250, Prototek BuzzBox) for line tracing. Extended cables (LM600-15, LM600-30, LM600-50) are available.
- Rear-Viewing Camera: An optional illuminated rear-viewing color camera (P/N WM375-1) can be installed for steel and fiberglass LAMP II systems, requiring K2/Summit control system or a panel-mounted toggle switch for non-K2 systems. K2 firmware version R021 or later is required for K2/Summit equipped systems.
- Immobilizing Block: Available (P/N LM758 for newer models with replaceable bump stops, P/N LM275 for older assemblies) to keep the head straight when operating the LAMP II as a mainline transporter without the lateral camera and push cable, preventing it from hitting obstructions.
- Picture-in-Picture (PiP): Allows simultaneous viewing of video from both cameras on the monitor.
- Lateral Reel Brake: Two brake systems: a tensioner to prevent over-spinning and bird-nesting of the video cable, and a lever-activated brake to lock the drum motion.
- Push Wheel Replacement Guide: Provides steps to replace plastic push wheels to compensate for wear and cable slippage, offering standard, oversized, and double-oversized wheels.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning: The LAMP II equipment should be cleaned with detergent and water after each day of use.
- Cable Inspection: Cables coming from the transporter and launcher should be checked for cuts or worn areas prior to each use. Damaged cables must be repaired or replaced immediately.
- Cover Integrity: Protection covers from the motor or controllers should never be removed, as this voids the warranty. Repairs should only be performed by an authorized CUES technician.
- Wear Plate Inspection: For alternate push configurations, the leading edge of the wear plate (P/N LM740) should be periodically inspected and replaced if broken or severely grooved to protect the transporter body.
- Push Cable Flipping: A procedure is provided to flip the fiberglass push cable to prolong its life.
- Bump Stop Replacement: Removable bump stops (P/N LM718) can be replaced using an Allen wrench and blue Loctite.
