Overview

The Cuisinart Extreme Brew™ 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, DCC-2650 Series, is designed to deliver hot, fresh coffee up to 25% faster than traditional coffeemakers. This appliance emphasizes ease of use, programmability, and features that enhance coffee flavor and user convenience.

Function Description:

This coffeemaker's primary function is to brew coffee. It utilizes a re-engineered brewing technology to achieve faster brewing times. Users can program the coffeemaker to automatically start brewing up to 24 hours in advance, ensuring fresh coffee is ready when desired. The unit also includes an Auto Off feature, allowing users to program the coffeemaker to shut off automatically up to 4 hours after brewing, which is a safety and energy-saving measure. A Strength Selector offers options for Regular or Bold coffee, catering to individual taste preferences. For smaller batches, a 1-4 Cup Setting improves extraction, flavor, and temperature when brewing fewer than 5 cups. The coffeemaker also features an Adjustable Temperature Control for the heating plate, allowing users to keep brewed coffee at their preferred temperature (Low, Medium, or High).

Usage Features:

The coffeemaker is designed with user convenience in mind. The Reservoir Cover flips back for easy filling of water. A Water Reservoir with Water Level Indicator Window (not shown in the provided image but mentioned in the manual) helps users accurately fill the reservoir. The Showerhead (also not shown) distributes water evenly over coffee grounds, minimizing temperature loss during brewing. The Filter Basket holds either a #4 paper filter or the included Permanent Gold Tone Commercial Style Filter. The permanent filter eliminates the need for paper filters, though users should be aware that some fine grounds may pass through and appear as sediment.

A key convenience feature is the Brew Pause™ function, which allows users to temporarily stop the flow of coffee from the basket to pour a cup mid-brew. However, the manual notes that using this feature may weaken the flavor strength of the finished pot due to differences in extraction at various stages of the brewing cycle. An Audible Tone sounds five times when the brew cycle is complete, signaling that the coffee is ready. The 12-Cup Glass Carafe is designed for easy pouring with an ergonomic handle and includes markings for two to twelve cups. The Heating Plate is scratch-resistant with a black, nonstick coating, providing a durable surface for the carafe.

The Control Panel is intuitive, featuring an On/Off Button, Clock Display, Hour and Minute Buttons for setting time, and a Function Knob that allows selection between PROG (program Auto On time), AUTO ON (activate programmed Auto On), AUTO OFF (program automatic shut-off), BREW (start immediate brewing), and CLOCK (set time of day). The coffeemaker also includes a Power Loss Back-up System, which retains all programmed information (time of day, Auto On, and Auto Off times) for one minute in case of a power interruption. A Measuring Scoop is provided for accurate coffee measurement. All parts that come into contact with coffee or liquid are BPA-free, addressing health and safety concerns.

Maintenance Features:

Regular cleaning and maintenance are straightforward. The coffeemaker should always be turned off and unplugged before cleaning. The reservoir cover can be lifted, and the filter basket, along with any paper filter and ground coffee, can be removed. The filter basket can be washed in warm, soapy water or placed in the upper rack of a dishwasher. The carafe and its lid are also dishwasher-safe (upper rack only) or can be hand-washed. The base unit should never be immersed in water; instead, it can be wiped with a clean, damp cloth and dried. Fingerprints and blemishes on the housing can be cleaned with soap and water or a nonabrasive cleaning solution. The heating plate should be wiped with a clean, damp cloth, avoiding abrasive materials or cleansers.

A crucial maintenance feature is the Charcoal Water Filter, which helps eliminate chlorine, bad tastes, and odors from tap water, contributing to a purer coffee flavor. The manual provides detailed instructions for inserting the filter, including soaking it in cold water and flushing it before use. It is recommended to change the water filter every 60 days or after 60 uses, or more frequently in areas with hard water.

The coffeemaker also includes a Self-Clean Setting, indicated by a flashing Clean light, which signals when decalcification is needed to remove calcium buildup from the metal parts. The decalcification process involves filling the water reservoir with a mixture of white vinegar and water, then pressing the Clean button and turning the coffeemaker on. The Clean light will glow steadily during the cleaning cycle. After the cycle, if the Clean light no longer flashes, a cycle of fresh cold water should be run through the unit before brewing coffee again. If the Clean light continues to flash, the decalcification process should be repeated. The Clean button also serves to cancel other settings if pressed accidentally, and pressing On/Off will exit the CLEAN mode.
