Overview

This document is a user manual for a Tripod Turnstile, providing comprehensive information on its function, installation, operation, maintenance, and safety.

Function Description

The turnstile is designed for access control in various settings such as hotels and government facilities. It regulates entry and exit by allowing people to pass using a card or face recognition, or freely without identity verification, or by disallowing passage altogether. The arms of the turnstile are normally locked and open only upon authorization, closing after a specified time or when a person has passed. It supports anti-trailing and anti-reverse intrusion functions, locking the arms if forced entry is attempted. The device can be integrated into a network for collecting and importing card and face data.

Important Technical Specifications

The turnstile operates on a 24 V DC/6.5 A power input for the control board. It includes an electromagnetic lock, an access control panel, a speaker for voice prompts, and a passage control panel that processes signals from the access controller and manages the electromagnets and direction indicator. Direction indicators show passing status with solid red X for standby, flashing green arrow for successful authorization, and flashing red X three times with "Authorization failed" broadcast for denied access. In free pass mode, a solid green arrow indicates authorization succeeded. The turnstile arms automatically fold down when power is off. It features a circuit breaker for protection and a fan for heat dissipation. The card reader panel reads card information and sends signals to access control, while the card-swiping panel sends signals to the card reader.

Dimensions of the turnstile are 1200.0 mm [47.24 in] in length, 200.0 mm [7.87 in] in width, and 560.0 mm [22.05 in] in height for the top section, and 990.0 mm [38.98 in] in overall height. For installation, expansion bolts of M12 × 120 are used, requiring a hole depth of 95 mm and a diameter of 16 mm.

Cable connections include:

  • Power cable: One 220 V RVV3 × 2.5 power cable for each turnstile, with 3 m reserved outside the cable entry.
  • Ethernet cable: One Cat5 Ethernet cable for two card readers and one face recognition access controller, or two Cat5 Ethernet cables for two card readers and two face recognition access controllers, with 3 m reserved outside the cable entry.
  • PVC pipe layout: 1" PVC pipe, 425# concrete base, power cable pipe, signal cable pipe, communication cable pipe. Signal and communication cables are connected to the security booth. A Φ70 cable entry is recommended.

The control board ports include:

  • GND, VIN: 24 V DC/6.5 A power input.
  • LD+, LD-: Provides operating voltage for card reader or face recognition module.
  • RD+, RD-: Entry signal.
  • COM1/NO1, COM2/NO2: Relay outputs for alarm, entry, and exit signals.
  • TX1, GND, RX1; 485A, 485B: RS-232 and RS-485 communication.
  • SPK+, SPK-: Speaker connection.
  • DIP switch: Default 00000000 (eight 0s).
  • K2, GND: Signal port for opening turnstile on exit.
  • K1, GND: Signal port for opening turnstile on entry.
  • XF, GND: Fire alarm signal input port (causes arms to fall down).
  • TMP1, GND: Reserved port.
  • 12 V, GND: Provides operating voltage for the fan.
  • TX2, GND, RX2: RS-232 communication.

Usage Features

The turnstile offers flexible access control modes:

  • Card/Face Recognition: People can pass using a card or their face.
  • Free Pass: People can pass without identity verification.
  • No Passage: Access is denied.

Installation requires careful adherence to safety instructions, including ensuring proper grounding, avoiding use during thunderstorms, and maintaining a minimum distance of 60-100 mm from buildings for maintenance. The turnstile must be installed on a flat, stable surface. For outdoor installations prone to water pooling, a 50-150 mm cement base is required, with the passage elevated to the same height. Silicon sealant should be applied to gaps to prevent water and condensation. PVC pipes for cables must be buried more than 60 mm under the ground, with at least 50 mm above ground, and bent to keep water out.

Commissioning involves setting the work mode, memory mode, and passing mode via DIP switches or a configuration application. Passing time can be set to 5s (default), 10s, 30s, or 60s. The turnstile type can be set to tripod. Voice volume and in/out broadcast can also be configured. Self-checking requires manually pushing the arms down and then lifting them to a level position after a restart.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the turnstile's longevity.

Surface Cleaning:

  • Frequency: Outdoors: every five days and after rain; Indoors: every seven days.
  • Method: Use a soft cloth with neutral detergent or clean water. For rust, use scour pads and rust remover, then clean with detergent or water. Avoid acidic substances, especially those containing HCL, H2SO4, SO4, salt, and HCLO, as they damage the stainless steel's passive film. Soot, dust, and iron-containing metal powder can also cause rust.
  • Adhesive Failure Prevention: Protect protective film from UV rays, heat, and pressure. Reapply silicon sealant to face recognition access controller installation holes every two years to prevent water leakage.

Interior Cleaning:

  • Frequency: Every three months.
  • Method: Disconnect power, open the top panel, and remove dust. Ensure motor, bearing, fastening pieces, connection bars, and screws are tightened. Apply anti-corrosive lubricant to moving parts. Check for loose connections and secure cables. Do not use water for interior cleaning to avoid short circuits.

Removing Marks and Rust:

  • Protective Film Marks: Use alcohol, naphtha, banana oil, or a mixed solution of ethyl alcohol and methylbenzene (or acetone). Scrub with a clean cloth until dry, then clean with water.
  • Palm Marks: Use neutral detergent or soap; for stubborn marks, use organic solutions like alcohol or naphtha. Wipe off with a clean, dry cloth.
  • Small Rust: Use a stainless steel cleaner.
  • Larger Rust: Use specialized stainless steel cleaner. For severe rust, use sandpapers or a stainless steel brush, being careful not to damage the surface, then apply cleaner.

Cleaning Requirements:

  • Cut off power before cleaning.
  • Ensure water does not contact internal components.
  • Use non-abrasive detergents.
  • Clean along surface lines.
  • Dry surfaces with cloth after cleaning.

Detergent Requirements:

  • Choose stainless steel cleaner with over 30% active ingredients.
  • Avoid acidic substances (sulfuric acid, sulfurous acid, chlorine).
  • For adhesive failure, use non-oxidative organic solutions (alcohol, dimethylbenzene, acetone).
  • For processed stainless steel (mirror finish, titanium coating), use neutral, non-abrasive detergents.
