Overview

This document is the installation manual for Daikin R32 Split System Air Conditioners, specifically models RXA20A5V1B8, RXA25A5V1B8, and RXA35A5V1B8. It provides comprehensive instructions for authorized installers on the safe and correct installation, configuration, commissioning, and maintenance of these outdoor units.

Function Description:

The Daikin R32 Split System Air Conditioner outdoor unit is designed for outdoor installation only and functions as part of a split system to provide cooling and heating. It uses R32 refrigerant, which is a fluorinated greenhouse gas with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) value of 675. The unit is equipped with an inverter, which contributes to its performance. The system is designed to operate within specified ambient temperature ranges: -10°C to 46°C for cooling and -15°C to 24°C for heating. A special "facility mode" can be set for cooling at low outdoor temperatures (down to -15°C, resuming at -20°C if temperature drops further), suitable for environments like computer rooms, but not recommended for residences or offices.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Refrigerant: R32 (mildly flammable, GWP 675).
  • Piping Material: Phosphoric acid deoxidized seamless copper.
  • Flare Connections: Annealed material only.
  • Piping Diameter:
    • Liquid piping: Ø6.4 mm (1/4")
    • Gas piping: Ø9.5 mm (3/8")
  • Piping Thickness (minimum):
    • 6.4 mm (1/4"): ≥0.8 mm
    • 9.5 mm (3/8"): ≥1.0 mm (Note: Larger thickness might be required based on legislation and maximum working pressure).
  • Piping Insulation: Polyethylene foam with a heat transfer rate between 0.041 and 0.052 W/mK and heat resistance of at least 120°C.
  • Insulation Thickness (minimum):
    • For 6.4 mm (1/4") pipe: ≥10 mm (inner diameter 8~10 mm)
    • For 9.5 mm (3/8") pipe: ≥13 mm (inner diameter 10~14 mm)
    • If temperature >30°C and humidity >80%RH, insulation thickness should be at least 20 mm to prevent condensation.
  • Maximum Allowable Pipe Length: 20 m.
  • Minimum Allowable Pipe Length: 1.5 m.
  • Maximum Allowable Height Difference: 15 m.
  • Sound Pressure Level: Less than 70 dBA (Note: Actual measured values might be higher due to environmental noise and reflections).
  • Power Supply: 220-240 V, 50 Hz, 1-phase.
  • Current (RXA20): 9.88 A
  • Current (RXA25): 11.17 A
  • Current (RXA35): 12.29 A
  • Recommended Circuit Breaker/Fuse: 20 A or 25 A.
  • Interconnection Cable: 3-core cable, minimum size 1.5 mm².
  • Storage Conditions: Appliance must be stored in a well-ventilated room without continuously operating ignition sources and protected from mechanical damage.

Usage Features:

  • Installation Site Requirements: The installation location must support the unit's weight and provide sufficient service space. It should not be in contact with a ceiling or wall to prevent vibrations. For cold climates, protection against direct snowfall and ensuring the unit is not snowed up is crucial, potentially requiring a snow cover/shed and a pedestal (at least 150 mm, or 300 mm for heavy snowfall, above ground and 100 mm above expected snow level). The air inlet should face a wall and not be directly exposed to wind. Avoid installing in sound-sensitive areas.
  • Drainage: A drain plug and a Ø16 mm hose (field supply) are used for drainage. Measures must be taken to prevent condensate from freezing in cold climates.
  • Refrigerant Charging: Only R32 refrigerant must be used. Protective gloves and safety glasses are required during charging. The manual provides a method to determine additional refrigerant amounts based on pipe length.
  • Electrical Connections: All wiring must comply with national wiring regulations and be performed by an authorized electrician. Proper earthing is essential. Fuses or circuit breakers must be installed. Taped wires, extension cords, or star system connections are prohibited. Phase advancing capacitors should not be installed.
  • Facility Mode: This function allows cooling at low outdoor temperatures (down to -15°C) by cutting jumper J6 on the outdoor unit PCB. It is intended for facilities like computer rooms and not for occupied spaces.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Safety Precautions: Installation, servicing, maintenance, and repair must follow Daikin instructions and applicable legislation, performed by qualified persons.
  • Leak Checks: After connecting refrigerant piping and after charging, all joints must be checked for leaks using a bubble test solution or an electronic leak detector.
  • Vacuum Drying: A vacuum pump must be used to evacuate the system to -0.1 MPa (-1 bar) for at least 2 hours to remove moisture.
  • Fault Diagnosis: The outdoor unit PCB has an LED indicator for fault diagnosis.
    • Flashing LED: Normal operation.
    • ON LED: Indicates a faulty outdoor unit PCB (after checking indoor unit, cycling power, and re-checking).
    • OFF LED: Indicates supply voltage for power saving, power supply fault, or a faulty outdoor unit PCB (after cycling power and re-checking).
  • Power Disconnection for Service: Before servicing, the power supply must be disconnected for at least 10 minutes, and the voltage at main circuit capacitors or electrical components must be measured to ensure it is less than 50 V DC.
  • Maintenance Intervals: Maintenance should be performed by an authorized installer or service agent at least once a year, or more frequently if required by applicable legislation.
  • Disposal: The system must not be dismantled by the user. Dismantling, refrigerant treatment, oil, and other parts must comply with applicable legislation and be handled by a specialized treatment facility for reuse, recycling, and recovery. An automatic pump-down operation should be performed before relocating or dismantling the unit.
