Overview

The Dakota Alert DCR-4000 is a wireless receiver designed for use with Dakota Alert wireless security equipment. It functions as a central unit that receives signals from up to 16 compatible transmitters, providing audible alerts and visual indications when a transmitter is activated. This device is an integral part of a wireless security system, offering customizable alerts and volume control to suit various user preferences and environments.

Function Description:

The primary function of the DCR-4000 wireless receiver is to receive wireless signals from Dakota Alert transmitters (such as motion sensors or push-button transmitters) and provide an alert. When a signal is received, the receiver plays a pre-selected tune and illuminates its LEDs, indicating an activation event. This allows users to be notified of activity in monitored areas, whether it's an intruder, a visitor, or a specific event triggered by a transmitter. The receiver supports multiple transmitters, each of which can be assigned a unique tune, enabling users to differentiate between different zones or types of alerts. The device is designed for easy setup and operation, making it suitable for both residential and commercial applications where wireless monitoring is desired.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Supply: 12 VDC, 500 mA. This indicates the receiver requires a direct current power input of 12 volts and draws 500 milliamperes.
  • Wireless Range: Up to 1 mile (1.6 km). This is the maximum theoretical range under ideal conditions. Actual range may vary significantly depending on local terrain, obstructions (such as walls, trees, and buildings), and electromagnetic interference. This long range makes it suitable for monitoring large properties or areas where transmitters are far from the receiver.
  • Dimensions: 3.25 × 1.75 inches (8.25 × 4.45 cm). These compact dimensions allow the receiver to be discreetly placed or mounted in various locations without being obtrusive.
  • Operating Temperature: -30 to 120°F (-34.4 to 48.9°C). This wide operating temperature range ensures the receiver can function reliably in a variety of indoor and outdoor (sheltered) environments, from very cold to very hot conditions.
  • Operating Frequencies: 433 MHz. This is the radio frequency band used for wireless communication between the receiver and its compatible transmitters. This frequency is commonly used for short-range wireless devices.
  • Transmitter Capacity: The receiver can connect to up to 16 transmitters. This allows for comprehensive coverage of multiple zones or entry points within a property.

Usage Features:

  • Easy Powering: The receiver is powered by a supplied power adapter that connects to the bottom of the unit and threads through a groove for a clean setup. It then plugs into a standard power outlet.
  • Tune Selection: Users can choose from 12 different tunes for alerts, including "Ding Dong (high)", "Ding Dong (low)", "Westminster", "Fur Elise", "Alarm/Siren", "Coo Coo Clock", "Bird Chirping", "Twinkle Twinkle", "William Tell", "Cannon in D", "Morning", and "Toreador March". This variety allows for customization based on preference or to distinguish between different types of alerts.
  • Transmitter Coding (Pairing): The process of connecting transmitters to the receiver involves placing them next to each other, pressing and holding the MODE and volume buttons on the receiver for three seconds until all four LEDs flash, then activating the transmitter after selecting a desired tune. This allows the receiver to "learn" the transmitter's signal and associate it with a specific tune.
  • Multi-Transmitter Support: If coding multiple transmitters, the process of selecting a tune and activating the transmitter is repeated for each additional unit.
  • Volume Adjustment: The receiver features adjustable volume with four distinct levels, including an "off" setting. Volume is adjusted by repeatedly pressing the volume button. The LEDs briefly indicate the current volume level.
  • Visual Indicators (LEDs): The receiver incorporates LEDs that flash to indicate an alert and also provide feedback during setup and volume adjustment.
  • Mounting Options: The receiver can be easily mounted on a wall using two screws or nails, spaced 2.6 inches (6.7 cm) apart. This provides flexibility in placement.
  • Accidental Activation Prevention: During the coding process, users are advised to be careful not to accidentally activate the transmitter until the desired tune is selected. For motion sensors, covering the sensor is recommended to prevent premature activation.
  • Tune Correction: If a transmitter is accidentally activated on an undesired tune, the user can press the volume button to cycle through tunes and then reactivate the transmitter with the correct tune.

Maintenance Features:

  • Deleting All Sensors (Reset): The receiver can be reset to factory settings, deleting all coded sensors. This is achieved by pressing and holding the MODE and volume buttons for three seconds until the four lights flash slowly, then pressing and holding them again for five seconds until the lights flash quickly and turn off. This feature is useful for reconfiguring the system or troubleshooting.
  • Relearning Sensors: After a reset, sensors can be relearned by following the standard setup procedure described in the "Setting up your receiver" section.
  • Warranty: Dakota Alert provides a one-year warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship from the date of purchase. The warranty does not cover damage from accident, abuse, acts of God, or improper operation. For defective products, users can return them to Dakota Alert for repair or replacement, provided they include a note describing the issue, their name, return address, and the original sales receipt. If the product is not covered by warranty, the user will be notified of any charges before service.
  • Technical Support: Dakota Alert offers technical support via phone (605-356-2772) from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday (Central Standard Time) to assist users with any problems encountered while using the product.
  • FCC Compliance: The device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules, ensuring it meets standards for radio frequency emissions and interference. Users are advised on measures to correct potential interference issues, such as reorienting the receiving antenna, increasing separation between equipment, connecting to a different circuit, or consulting a dealer/technician.
  • Legal Notices and Warnings: The manual includes a warning regarding Cancer and Reproductive Harm, directing users to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov for more information, indicating compliance with California Proposition 65.
