Do you have a question about the Dam Easy Flood Barriers DME01 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Dam Easy® Flood Barrier is a temporary flood protection system designed for doorways, offering a watertight seal against floodwaters up to 600mm (23.6 inches) high. This innovative barrier is engineered for ease of use, requiring no tools, fixings, silicone, or drilling for installation, making it a convenient solution for property owners.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Dam Easy® Flood Barrier is to provide rapid and effective flood protection for external doorways. It achieves this by creating a watertight seal within the door reveals. The barrier consists of a fixed central panel and two extendable side panels. These side panels are adjusted to the width of the doorway using a ratchet handle. Once positioned and extended to fit securely within the reveals, a unique, patented inflatable seal, which surrounds the entire barrier, is inflated using a built-in pump mechanism and air pressure gauge. This inflation creates the final watertight seal in seconds. The barrier is designed for temporary use and should be removed once floodwaters recede.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Seal Inflation Pressure: Approximately 2 bar (green region on gauge).
  • Material: 100% recyclable metallic and plastic parts.
  • Certification: CE Marked, independently tested and certified by EFPA/EVH.
  • Doorway Requirements: Reveals must be smooth, solid, vertical, and parallel. The doorstep must be smooth, solid, and horizontal, at right angles to reveals. Installation is recommended only within solid reveals, not within door frames (timber, aluminum, etc.).

Usage Features:

  • Simple and Fast Installation: The barrier is installed in three easy steps: position, extend side panels, and inflate the seal. No special tools or trade skills are required.
  • No Damage to Doorways: The system avoids unsightly fixings or drilling, preserving the integrity of the doorway.
  • Reusable: The barrier can be used in different doorways or properties, offering versatile flood protection.
  • Extendible: Side panels extend to fit various doorway widths, and an optional Extension System allows for multiple barriers to cover wider openings.
  • Air Pressure Gauge: A built-in gauge allows for precise inflation and monitoring of the seal's pressure.
  • Air Retention Switch: Prevents accidental deflation of the seal.
  • Lifting Handles: Designated handles ensure safe and proper lifting of the barrier.
  • Trial Installation Recommended: Users are advised to complete a full trial installation prior to a flood risk to ensure familiarity and proper fit.
  • Accessories: A range of accessories is available, including an Extension Pole for wider openings, a Security Cover to prevent tampering, replacement seals, adhesive patches for enhanced sealing, and other flood protection products like HydroPacks, HydroSnakes, HydroSacks, Sealant, Shower Stacks, and Toilet Dams.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: After contact with floodwater, the barrier must be thoroughly cleaned with clean, fresh water and air-dried. Detergents or chemicals should not be used as they may damage the seal. Gloves and eye protection are recommended during cleaning due to potential contamination from floodwater.
  • Seal Replacement: The inflatable seal is a critical component for a watertight seal. It is recommended to replace the seal before storing the barrier, if it shows signs of damage, or every 12 months, regardless of use. A replacement seal is included in the Flood Barrier Kit, and additional seals can be purchased. The seal is attached at three quick-release points and connected to the inflation mechanism via a quick-release fitting, making replacement straightforward.
  • Storage: The barrier and all kit parts must be dry and the side panels fully retracted before storage. It should be stored upright in its original reusable packaging, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures, on a smooth, even surface to avoid damaging the seal. Corner protectors are provided for safe storage.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a comprehensive troubleshooting section to address common issues such as the barrier not being secure, interference with door closing, seal inflation problems, and ratchet handle difficulties.
  • Warranty: A 12-month warranty covers defective materials or workmanship, provided the barrier is registered online within 30 days of purchase. Exclusions apply if the barrier has been altered, the safety seal or tamper-proof screws are damaged, or tools have been used on the barrier.
  • End-of-Life Disposal: The Dam Easy® Flood Barrier is 100% recyclable. Metallic and plastic parts should be separated and taken to a registered recycling center.
