Overview

The Darimo IX2 Stem is a carbon fiber, handmade component designed for bicycles, emphasizing lightweight construction for enhanced efficiency. It is suitable for both MTB and road handlebars, with specific installation instructions provided for each.

Function Description

The Darimo IX2 Stem serves as a critical connection point between the bicycle's fork steerer tube and the handlebar, allowing the rider to steer the bicycle. Its design focuses on providing a secure and rigid connection while minimizing weight through the use of carbon fiber. The stem is engineered to meet and exceed standard safety tests (EN ISO 4210), ensuring reliability under normal riding conditions.

Important Technical Specifications

Material: Carbon Fiber, handmade in Spain. Handlebar Compatibility:

  • MTB Handlebar: Requires a central diameter of 31.8mm.
  • Road Handlebar (Darimo Ellipse): Specific installation procedure. Fork Head Tube Compatibility: Requires a diameter of 28.6mm. Minimum Head Tube Length for Installation: 43mm. Shorter lengths are deemed dangerous as the stem will not have sufficient contact surface. Maximum Torque for Screws: 3.5 Nm. This applies to both head tube installation and handlebar installation. Exceeding this limit can damage the stem and compromise safety, voiding the warranty. Weight Recommendation: Not recommended for individuals weighing over 90 kg. Reinforced stems are available upon request for heavier riders. Usage Restriction: Not suitable for downhill use.

Usage Features

Installation Process:

  • Headtube Installation:
    • Ensure compatibility with handlebar (31.8mm central diameter) and fork head tube (28.6mm diameter).
    • Verify minimum head tube length of 43mm.
    • Apply a thin layer of mounting paste to both components.
    • Slightly open the stem clamps to insert the head tube, using a soft material wedge (e.g., a wood clothespin) if needed.
    • Once the head tube is inserted, tighten with the corresponding expander and top cover.
    • Alternately tighten the screws to a maximum of 3.5 Nm.
  • MTB Handlebar Installation:
    • Remove the stem closure elements to open the frontal cap.
    • Apply a thin layer of mounting paste to the stem and handlebar.
    • Slightly open the front part of the stem with a soft material wedge (e.g., a wood clothespin).
    • Insert the handlebar.
    • Reinstall the closure elements and alternately tighten the screws to a maximum of 3.5 Nm.
  • Darimo Ellipse Road Handlebar Installation:
    • Refer to the Darimo YouTube video for a visual guide.
    • Apply a thin layer of mounting paste to the stem and handlebar.
    • Remove the stem closure elements to open the frontal cap.
    • Using one or two wood/plastic wedges (like a clothespin), open the stem cover to a maximum of 8mm.
    • Insert an 8mm Allen key in the center to hold the stem cover in this open position.
    • Follow the handlebar curves to center the stem.
    • Remove the Allen key.
    • Reinstall the closure elements and alternately tighten the screws to a maximum of 3.5 Nm.

Safety Precautions:

  • Always use a torque wrench to ensure screws are tightened to the specified maximum of 3.5 Nm.
  • If unsure about installation, consult a bike professional.
  • Improper installation can lead to damage, reduced safety, and void the warranty.
  • The stem is not designed for downhill riding.
  • Not recommended for riders over 90 kg; a reinforced stem should be requested for heavier individuals.
