What to do if DARLEY 2BE6.5H Water Pump fails to prime?
    • R
      Rachael HollandAug 10, 2025
If the DARLEY Water Pump fails to prime, there are several potential causes. One is air leaks. To address this, clean and tighten all suction connections and check the condition of hoses and hose gaskets. You can also run a dry vacuum test: connect the suction hose to the pump and cap the end, drain the pump, and operate the primer to draw a vacuum (preferably 20-22"). If the vacuum drops more than 10" Hg in 10 minutes, there is excessive leakage. With the engine off, you might be able to hear the air leaks. Another possible cause is leaky discharge check valves. In this case, remove the discharge check valves and repair or replace them. Also, clean the sealing face of the pump casing flange.

Why DARLEY Water Pump loses prime?

The DARLEY Water Pump may lose prime due to a few reasons. One potential cause is air leaks in the suction connections. Ensure that all connections are clean and tight and that hoses and hose gaskets are in good condition. You can perform a dry vacuum test to check for leaks: connect the suction hose, cap the end, drain the pump, and use the primer to create a vacuum of 20-22". A drop of more than 10" Hg in 10 minutes indicates excessive leakage. With the engine off, listen for audible air leaks. Another reason could be leaking discharge check valves. If this is the case, remove the discharge check valves and either repair or replace them. Remember to clean the sealing face of the pump casing flange.
