seal IS not turned back or
damaged
and
push
the
assembly

the end
of the
plston is
below the end of
the
cyhnder

8 Insert the ball end of
the
push
rod to hold the
piston assembly against
the
pressure
of the return
spnng
position
the
retaining
washer and
Instal the
cuchp
to the
groove
In the end
of the
cylinder

assembly

that the

the
rubber boot over the
push
rod and

that

hydraulic

reservOIr Instal
the
reservolf
cap
and
pump
the
master
cyhnder
push
rod
until the flUid

emerge

the
cyhnder

should

approxunately
five or SIX strokes of the
piston

1 Removal and Installation
procedure
IS the same as

1600 senes
except
that
spacer
shuns
are mounted
between
the
cyhnder flange
and the fire walls
TO DISMANTLE

Take
off the filler
cap
and
empty
flwd from
the
master
cyhnder
2 Pull
the
rubber boot off
the
open
end of the
cyhnder
remove
the
retalnmg cuchp
and Withdraw the
push
rod
and
retaining
washer
3 Remove
the
piston stop
screw from the
body
of
the master
cyhnder
and Withdraw the
piston
assembly
pnmary
cup
and
return
sprmg
assembly
4 Remove the return
spnng
from the
spnng
retainer
hft the
spnng
retainer from the
sphned spigot
on the end
of
the
piston
and
take out the
spnng
and the wet valve Take
care not to
lose the Inlet valve
spnng
5 Remove the
seal from the Irllet valve and remove
the
piston
seals
from the
piston assembly
TO CLEAN
AND
INSPECT
I Thoroughly
clean
the master
cyhnder components
and the Inside of the master
cyhnder
With
methylated
spmts
2 Check
the
inSide
of the bore for wear and
or
pitting
If
necessary
hone the
bore
3 Check
the
piston
groove
and
piston body
for
wear
and renew the
piston
seals Check
the
valve
spnng
ten lOn

Check the
tensIOn of the
piston
return
spnng
5
Renew
the rubber boot If It shows
signs
of
detenoratlon
6 Check
the
breather hole
In
the reservou to
ensure
that It
IS
clear
7 Remove
any
sedunent that
may
have accumulated
m the
bottom of the reservoir
TO
REASSEMBLE
I Dip
the
master
cyhnder components
In a contamer
of clean
hydrauhc
flUid and Instal the new
seals on
the
piston ensunng
that the
seals
are
seated
correctly
and the
hp
IS
faCing
the
spigot
end of the
piston
2
Place the
Irllet valve
seal
on the
Irllet
valve With the
hp
faCing
the
piston assembly
3
Place
the
Irllet
valve
sprmg
With
the
tapered
end on
the
face of the Inlet valve
flange
and
press
the
spnng
retamer
down
over
the
sphned
end
of
the
piston
assembly
and secure
