D) Warning
DECADE
transmitters operate on the 87.9 MHz
-
107.9
MHZ
commercial
FM
broadcast band, so signals
transmitted by
them can be
received
on
any standard
FM receiver. Thus,
some care should
be taken in
the use
made
out of
these transmitters.
DECADE
transmitters
inc. is not responsible
for
any loss
of
profit
or
laws
violation
during the utilisation of
their transmitters.
The
CRTC
(Canadian
Radio-television
and
Telecommunications
Commission) and
the
DOC
(Department
Of
Communications,
Canada)
legislate
the use of FM
transmitters. No licence
is required for
indoor
use
of these tranmitters, as long
as
the transmitted
signal
is mostly
contained
in the building intended
to be covered
by the
transmitter
(ex.:
a concert
hall,
a church,
a
theatre, etc.) For most
applications,
a
RF
power
level
from
1
to 5 mWatts is
sufficient for indoor
uses.
There
is
a simple
test
that can
be
performed
to
verify
if
the
power
level
is
adequate: with
a
walkman
tuned
to the transmitter
frequency,
check
if
the
reception
is
good
everywhere
in
the
hall,
with
no
dead spots
(distortion,
noise
or
weak reception),
Then,
go
outside
of
the building
and
make
the same
verification,
except
that this
time,
you
must
have
bad
reception
(or
no
reception
at all)
around
the building, wich
means
that
power
level
is not
too
high
and
thus adequate
for indoor
use. lf
you
still
get good
reception
outside
the building,
you
will
have
to
lower
the
RF
power
level
of
the
transmitter
(refer
to
maintenance
and alignement,
section 4).
For
outdoor
uses
CRTC has released
many
public
notices
on low
power
FM
transmitters,
allowing
their
use
in
specific
applications
such
as:
I
drive-in
theatres;
r
private
touristic and
attraction
sites with
admission fees;
I
special
events
coverage not
exceeding
28
consecutives
days in
duration;
r
any
application
operating
under
the CRT-74 regulations,
wich
allows
a
tranmitting range
of about
200
to
600 feet,
depending
on
the
type
of
receiver
used.
