This document describes the DeLonghi Ceramic Fan Heater models DCH5231 and DCH5531. It provides essential safety warnings, a product overview, instructions for installation and use, and maintenance guidelines.
Safety Warnings and Precautions
The manual emphasizes several critical safety warnings to prevent injury, electric shock, burns, and damage to the appliance.
Danger (Electric Shock/Injury):
- The appliance must be placed near a suitable power socket.
- Do not use the appliance near showers, bathtubs, sinks, or swimming pools.
- If the power cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, an authorized service center, or a qualified electrician to eliminate all risks.
- Never immerse the appliance in water.
Important (Injury/Damage to Appliance):
- This appliance can be used by children aged 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning its safe use and understand the hazards involved.
- Children should not play with the appliance.
- Cleaning and user maintenance should not be performed by children without supervision.
- Children under 3 years old should be kept away unless continuously supervised.
- Children aged between 3 and 8 years old should only switch the appliance on/off if it has been placed or installed in its intended normal operating position and they have been given supervision or instruction concerning its safe use and understand the hazards involved.
- Children aged between 3 and 8 years old should not plug in, regulate, clean the appliance, or perform user maintenance.
- The appliance must always be used in an upright position.
- The use of extension leads is not recommended. If unavoidable, follow the extension lead's instructions and never exceed its marked power limit.
- The heater must be positioned at least 50 cm away from furniture or other objects.
- Do not use the appliance in rooms with a floor area of less than 4m².
- Before storing the appliance, ensure it is completely off and unplugged from the mains socket.
- Do not store in dusty atmospheres.
- Do not rest anything on the appliance.
- Do not use the appliance to dry laundry.
- Do not obstruct the air intake and outlet grilles, as this can cause overheating.
- Do not use the appliance near walls, furniture, or curtains.
Caution (Burns):
- Some parts of this product can become very hot and cause burns. Particular attention must be given when children and vulnerable people are present.
- To avoid accidental resetting of the safety system, this appliance must not be powered through an external on/off device (e.g., a timer) or connected to a circuit that is regularly switched off and on by the energy supplier.
- Do not use the appliance in small rooms when occupied by persons incapable of leaving the room, unless constant supervision is provided.
Warning (Overheating/Burns):
- To prevent overheating, never cover the appliance during operation, as this would lead to a dangerous rise in temperature.
Safety Functions:
- Safety device: The appliance is equipped with a safety device that switches it off in case of accidental overheating (e.g., obstructed air intake/outlet grilles, slow motor speed). To reset, unplug the appliance for a few minutes, remove the cause of overheating, and then plug it back in. If the appliance still doesn't work, contact De'Longhi Customer Service.
- Tip-over safety device: Certain models include a tip-over switch that turns the appliance off if it falls over. To restart, simply place it upright again.
Disposing of the Appliance:
- In compliance with European directive 2002/96/EC, the appliance must not be disposed of with household waste but taken to an authorized waste separation and recycling center.
Product Description (Refer to Fig. 1):
- A. Thermostat Dial: Used to set the desired room temperature.
- B. Function Selector Dial: Used to choose operating modes (fan only, power levels, off).
- C. Indicator Light: Illuminates to show the appliance is operating.
- D. Rotation Switch (DCH5531 only): Activates or deactivates the oscillating function.
- E. Swivelling Base (DCH5531 only): Allows the appliance to oscillate for wider air distribution.
Installation:
- The appliance can be used on any horizontal surface.
- Avoid overloading the electrical circuit; do not use the same socket for other appliances.
Electrical Connection:
- Before plugging in, ensure the mains supply voltage matches the V value indicated on the appliance and that the socket and power line are appropriate for the required load.
- This appliance complies with Directive 2004/108/EC on Electromagnetic Compatibility.
Functioning and Use:
- Plug in: Connect the appliance to the mains.
- Set Thermostat: Turn the thermostat dial to the maximum position.
- Summer Mode (Fan Only): Turn the function selector to the "fan" position.
- Low Power Operation: Turn the function selector to position 1 (for models with two fan speeds, this operates at minimum).
- Medium Power Operation: Turn the function selector to position 2 (for models with two fan speeds, this operates at maximum).
- High Power Operation: Turn the function selector to position 3 (the fan operates at maximum).
- Switching Off: Turn the function selector to the "0" position.
Note: In models with two power levels, position 2 corresponds to maximum power.
Setting the Thermostat:
- Turn the thermostat to maximum.
- Once the room reaches the desired temperature, slowly turn the thermostat dial anticlockwise until you hear a click and the fan turns off.
- The thermostat will then automatically maintain the room temperature at the selected level.
Frost Prevention Mode:
- With the function selector in position 3 and the thermostat dial in the "snowflake" position, the appliance maintains a room temperature of approximately 5°C, preventing freezing with minimal energy consumption.
Models with Thermostat Only (DCH5231 & DCH5531):
- To switch on, turn the thermostat dial to maximum.
- To switch off completely, turn the knob to the minimum position, then unplug from the mains.
Models with Motorised Rotating Base (DCH5531):
- Many models feature a motorised rotating base. To distribute airflow over a larger area, press the pedal on the base. The appliance will swing from right to left.
- To stop the appliance in the desired position, simply press the button again.
Maintenance:
- Always unplug the appliance from the mains socket before cleaning.
- Regularly clean the air intake and outlet grilles.
- Do not use abrasive products or solvents to clean the appliance.
