SOME NOTIONS ON
HUMIDITY
Air always contains a certain amount of water in
the form of vapour. This determines the level of
humidity in an atmosphere.
The capacity of the air to hold water vapour
increases with temperature.
This is why in our homes, as soon as the tempe-
rature decreases, the vapour contained in the air
condenses, as is evident on the colder surfaces
in the room, such as the windows, walls etc.
The purpose of a dehumidifier is to remove the
excess moisture from the air, avoiding the dama-
ge caused by condensation.
Experts have established that the optimum envi-
ronmental conditions for our well being and for
the home are obtained between 40% and 60%
relative humidity. Lower relative humidity can be
achieved with higher room temperatures. For
lower room temperatures the achievable relative
humidity will be on the higher side, closer to
60%. Therefore, with lower room temperatures,
you are recommended to heat the room even
minimally.
This considerably increases the dehumidifying
power of the appliance.
With heating, the condensation formed by the
water vapour on windows and other cold surfa-
ces evaporates into the air to be collected by the
dehumidifier.

Overview

This document describes a De'Longhi dehumidifier, providing information on its function, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description

The primary function of this appliance is to remove excess moisture from the air, thereby preventing condensation and its associated damage. Air naturally contains water vapor, and the capacity of air to hold this vapor increases with temperature. In homes, as temperatures decrease, this vapor condenses on colder surfaces like windows and walls. The dehumidifier addresses this by extracting moisture from the air.

Experts recommend maintaining relative humidity between 40% and 60% for optimal environmental conditions and well-being. Achieving lower relative humidity is easier at higher room temperatures. For cooler rooms, the achievable relative humidity will be closer to 60%. Therefore, it is recommended to heat the room, even minimally, to enhance the dehumidifying power of the appliance. Heating also helps evaporate condensation from cold surfaces into the air, allowing the dehumidifier to collect it.

The dehumidifier operates in various modes:

  • Dehumidifying Mode: The user can set a desired humidity level (between 30% for a dry environment and 80% for a humid environment) using the "+" and "-" buttons. The appliance will then work to achieve and maintain this level. The fan speed can also be adjusted (MIN/MAX). Once the set humidity is reached, the appliance will stop working, but the fan will continue at minimum speed. It will resume dehumidification if the humidity rises above the set point.
  • Continuous Dehumidifying Function: By pressing the "-" button until "--" is displayed, the appliance will operate continuously, providing constant dehumidification.
  • Delayed Start Function: The timer can be programmed to start the appliance after a set number of hours (from the OFF position).
  • Delayed Stop Function: The timer can be programmed to switch off the appliance after a set number of hours (from the ON position).

The appliance also features a defrosting cycle that activates when the room temperature is below 59°F (15°C). During defrosting, a specific symbol is displayed. After being turned off, the unit requires a 3-minute delay before it can function again.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Operating Limits:
    • Temperature: 41°F - 89.6°F (5°C - 32°C)
    • Relative Humidity: 30-90%
  • Power Supply: As indicated on the rating plate.
  • Absorbed Power: Not specified, but dependent on the rating plate.
  • Maximum Power Input: Not specified.
  • Freeze Protection Device: Yes
  • Hygrometer: Yes
  • Fan Speeds: 2
  • Air Filter: Yes
  • Refrigerant: R410A (fluorinated greenhouse gas, GWP=1975). Maintenance and disposal must be carried out by qualified personnel only.
  • Pump System (on pump models): Allows water removal up to 13 ft (4m) in height for continuous draining.

Usage Features

The dehumidifier is designed for domestic use only.

  • Control Panel: Features buttons for ON/Standby, Fan speed, Thermometer, Humidity increase/decrease, Timer, and Pump (on some models).
  • Display: Shows current humidity level, desired humidity level, room temperature (in Fahrenheit or Celsius), timer settings, and various symbols (standby, tank warning, defrosting indicator, pump blinking).
  • Water Collection:
    • Draining into the tank: Condensate is collected in an easily removable tank. When full, the tank warning light blinks, an alarm sounds, and the unit stops until the tank is emptied and correctly positioned.
    • Continuous External Draining: For long periods of operation, a drain hose (8) can be connected to the spout (2) at the back of the unit, allowing water to drain continuously. The end of the hose should not be higher than the spout, and there should be no kinks.
    • Continuous Draining using the Pump (on pump models): A condensation discharge tube (9) can be connected to a pipe on the lower front part of the unit (after removing the stopper labeled PUMP). The pump activates once enough moisture is collected in the tank, allowing water to be discharged to a drain up to 13 ft (4m) in height. If the pump is switched ON but the hose is missing, the "PUMP" symbol will blink.
  • Portability: Equipped with wheels (11) for easy movement. Handles (4) are also provided.
  • Air Intake/Outlet: Air intake grille (5) and air outlet grille (7). A minimum of 2 ft (61 cm) free space is required at the front to avoid blocking the air outlet, and 2-4 inches (5-10 cm) at the back for efficient ventilation.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of the appliance.

  • Cleaning the Cabinet:
    • Unplug the appliance before cleaning.
    • Clean with a damp cloth and dry with a dry cloth.
    • Do not use petrol, alcohol, solvents, liquid insecticides, or similar products, as they may deform the plastic.
    • Never wash the dehumidifier with a jet of water.
  • Cleaning the Air Filter:
    • The dust filter (6) should be cleaned regularly, ideally once a week if the unit is used constantly.
    • A dirty filter compromises air circulation and reduces dehumidifying and air purifying efficiency.
    • To remove, pull the filter down as shown in figure 7.
    • The filter can be hand washed or cleaned with a vacuum. Ensure it is completely dry before reinstalling.
  • Long-Term Storage:
    • Unplug the appliance and empty the tank.
    • Clean and reposition the filter.
    • Cover the appliance with a plastic bag to protect it from dust.

Safety Warnings:

  • Always unplug the appliance using the plug itself, never by pulling the cable.
  • Do not touch the appliance or plug with wet hands.
  • Ensure the outlet is accessible for unplugging.
  • Do not attempt to repair the appliance if it malfunctions; contact an authorized Service Center.
  • Do not move the appliance by pulling the power cable.
  • Do not modify or alter the appliance's characteristics.
  • If the power cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or an authorized service center.
  • Do not use extension cords.
  • The appliance must be installed in accordance with local household appliance rules and connected to a properly grounded outlet.
  • Keep packaging materials (plastic bags, polystyrene foam) out of reach of children.
  • The appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless supervised. Always supervise children.
  • Do not install near heat sources, in rooms containing gas, oil, or sulfur, or on sloping surfaces.
  • Keep at least 2 ft (61cm) away from flammable substances or pressurized containers.
  • Do not rest heavy or hot objects on top of the appliance.
  • Always transport the appliance upright; if transported on its side, wait at least 6 hours (24 hours recommended) before use.
  • Drain the condensate tank before moving the appliance.
