SOME NOTIONS ON
HUMIDITY
Air always contains a certain amount of water in
the form of vapour. This determines the level of
humidity in an atmosphere.
The capacity of the air to hold water vapour
increases with temperature.
This is why in our homes, as soon as the tempe-
rature decreases, the vapour contained in the air
condenses, as is evident on the colder surfaces
in the room, such as the windows, walls etc.
The purpose of a dehumidifier is to remove the
excess moisture from the air, avoiding the dama-
ge caused by condensation.
Experts have established that the optimum envi-
ronmental conditions for our well being and for
the home are obtained between 40% and 60%
relative humidity. With very low temperatures,
you are recommended to heat the room even
minimally.
This considerably increases the dehumidifying
power of the appliance.
With heating, the condensation formed by the
water vapour on windows and other cold surfa-
ces evaporates into the air to be collected by the
dehumidifier. Air leaving the dehumidifier is
usually about 1°C warmer than room temperatu-
re.

Troubleshooting

Overview

This document describes a dehumidifier, an appliance designed to remove excess moisture from the air and prevent issues caused by condensation. The device aims to create an optimal indoor environment, with experts recommending a relative humidity between 40% and 60% for well-being and home preservation.

Function Description

The primary function of this dehumidifier is to extract water vapor from the air. Air naturally contains varying amounts of water vapor, which determines the humidity level. As temperature decreases, the air's capacity to hold moisture also decreases, leading to condensation on colder surfaces like windows and walls. The dehumidifier counteracts this by collecting the excess moisture, thereby preventing damage and improving air quality.

The appliance offers several operating modes:

  • Dehumidifying mode: This is the standard mode where users can set a desired relative humidity level (from 30% for a dry environment to 80% for a humid one). The dehumidifier will operate until the set humidity is reached, then stop. The fan will periodically activate to maintain the correct humidity reading. If humidity rises above the set point, the appliance automatically resumes dehumidification. Users can also adjust the fan speed (MIN/MAX) in this mode.
  • Dry mode: In this mode, the dehumidifier operates continuously at maximum power. It is designed for rapid dehumidification of a room. Relative humidity and fan speed cannot be adjusted in Dry mode.
  • Smart mode: This mode automatically dehumidifies based on the room's conditions, establishing optimal settings for maximum comfort. Relative humidity and fan speed cannot be set in Smart mode.
  • Fan mode: This mode allows the appliance to operate solely as a fan, with adjustable fan speeds (MIN/MAX).

The dehumidifier is equipped with a control panel that includes buttons for ON/Standby, MODE selection, fan speed adjustment, humidity increase/decrease, and a hygrometer/thermometer button. The display shows the current operating mode, humidity levels, and various status indicators.

Usage Features

  • Installation: The dehumidifier should be positioned in the room to be dehumidified, with at least 50 cm of free space at the front for air outlet and 5-10 cm at the back for efficient ventilation.
  • Condensate Drainage: The collected condensate can be drained in two ways:
    • Into the tank: The condensate is collected directly into a removable tank. The display will indicate when the tank is full, absent, or incorrectly positioned.
    • Continuous external draining: For long periods of operation without regular tank emptying, a continuous drain facility can be used. This involves removing a drain cap and rubber bung, then attaching a rubber hose to the spout. It's crucial to ensure the end of the hose is no higher than the spout and that there are no kinks in the hose to prevent water from remaining in the tank.
  • Castors: The appliance comes with castors for easy mobility. These can be fitted by removing rubber caps from the bottom of the appliance and inserting the castor pins into the holes. It's important not to tilt the appliance at an angle greater than 45° during castor fitting and to wait at least an hour before using the dehumidifier again.
  • Low Temperature Operation: The appliance can operate in low temperatures. In such conditions, it alternates ventilation cycles with dehumidification cycles to prevent ice formation. For very cold environments, it is recommended to heat the room minimally to improve the dehumidifier's performance and accelerate the process. The air leaving the dehumidifier is typically about 1°C warmer than the room temperature.
  • Display Information: The display provides various indicators:
    • Standby mode.
    • Tank full, absent, or incorrectly positioned.
    • Operating at low temperatures (alternating cycles).
    • Fault with probes or humidity too low to measure.
    • Room temperature and relative humidity (temporarily displayed).
  • Safety: The manual emphasizes several safety warnings, including not touching the appliance or plug with wet hands, ensuring the mains socket is accessible, unplugging by the plug (not the cable), and not attempting repairs. It also warns against using extension leads, modifying the appliance, or using it in laundry rooms. Packaging materials should be kept out of reach of children. The appliance is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities without supervision.

Maintenance Features

  • General Cleaning: Before any cleaning or maintenance, the appliance must be unplugged from the power socket. The cabinet can be cleaned with a damp cloth and then dried with a dry cloth. Harsh chemicals like petrol, alcohol, solvents, or liquid insecticides should not be used as they can deform the plastic.
  • Silver Ion Air Filter Cleaning: The dehumidifier includes a silver ion air filter. A dirty filter compromises air circulation and reduces the efficiency of both dehumidifying and air purifying functions. Regular cleaning is recommended, with a weekly cleaning suggested for constant or systematic use.
  • Long-Term Storage: If the appliance will not be used for extended periods, it should be unplugged, the tank emptied, and the filter cleaned and repositioned. Covering the appliance with a plastic bag is recommended to protect it from dust.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual includes a troubleshooting section to help users resolve common issues before contacting a service center. This covers problems like the appliance not decreasing humidity, the tank being full or missing, or temperature/humidity being too low.
  • Repairs: In case of malfunctions, users are advised not to attempt repairs themselves. The appliance should be turned off, unplugged, and a manufacturer-authorised Service Centre contacted. Only original spare parts should be used for repairs, as unauthorised repairs can be dangerous and invalidate the guarantee.
  • Environmental Information: The appliance contains fluorinated greenhouse gases (R134a, GWP=1300) and must be disposed of at a specialist collection center by qualified personnel at the end of its working life. Packaging materials are recyclable, and users are encouraged to dispose of them in differentiated waste collection containers. The product is marked with a crossed-out wheeled dustbin to indicate that it should not be disposed of as urban waste.
