The Delta Static VAR Generator (SVG) is a sophisticated device designed for power quality management, specifically for compensating harmonics and reactive power in electrical grids. This document outlines its functions, key technical specifications, usage features, and maintenance aspects.
Function Description
The Static VAR Generator (SVG) is primarily used for harmonic compensation and reactive power management in electrical grids. It continuously monitors and reads three-phase waveform data from the grid, load, and its own output side in real-time. The device aims to improve power quality by mitigating harmonics and providing reactive power compensation, which can be continuously adjusted from capacitive to inductive.
The SVG features a 7-inch (800x600) TFT LCD full-color touch screen for its Power Quality Management System (PQMS). This system provides a user-friendly interface for monitoring, configuration, and diagnostics. It supports multilingual display (Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, English), stores up to 100 sets of error logs, and allows for exporting historical data for management. It also supports SD card and Ethernet monitoring and management.
Compensation Modes:
- Full Compensation: Prioritizes harmonic compensation. After harmonics are compensated, any remaining capacity is used for reactive power compensation.
- Harmonic Compensation: Focuses solely on compensating harmonics, without addressing reactive power.
- Reactive Power Compensation: Focuses solely on compensating reactive power, without addressing harmonics.

Usage Features
Installation:
- The SVG is a floor-standing cabinet. It must be transported and installed upright to prevent damage.
- Installation should be in a well-ventilated, dust-free indoor environment with relative humidity below 90% (non-condensing).
- Adequate clearance (at least 400mm head space, 200mm back space, 275mm side space) is required for proper ventilation and maintenance access.
- Wiring must comply with local electrical codes and regulations. Power cables should not exceed 200M in length.
- External Current Transformers (CTs) are required for harmonic current detection. CTs must be installed on the load side, with all three CTs in the R, S, and T phases pointing in the same direction towards the load.
- The device includes a transformer for voltage adjustment, which must be set according to the input power voltage (e.g., 380Vac for A-frame, 690Vac for B-frame).
Power Quality Management System (PQMS) Interface:
- Touch Screen: A 7-inch TFT LCD touch screen provides an intuitive interface. Users should avoid using sharp tools on the screen.
- Password Protection: The system has password-controlled access for various functions. The default password for basic functions is "20120123". Advanced settings require contacting Delta personnel.
- Language Settings: Supports Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and English.
- Screen Saver: Automatically enters hibernation mode and turns off the screen after a preset idle time (default 10 minutes) to save power.
- Data Logging: Records up to 100 error logs with time and date stamps. Historical data can be exported via USB or SD card.
- Monitoring: Displays real-time data for main voltage, current, power factor, THD, output current, DC bus voltage, and IGBT/main board temperature. Waveform display allows for monitoring grid, input, output, and load currents, with adjustable horizontal and vertical scales.
Operation Modes:
- Manual/Auto Mode: Users can select between manual or automatic startup. In auto mode, the SVG restarts automatically after 30 seconds following a warning/error, clearing errors after 10 seconds. If an error occurs three consecutive times, manual restart is required.
- Warning Disabling: A dedicated key allows disabling "WARNING" signals on the screen. "ERROR" signals cannot be disabled this way and require troubleshooting.
Maintenance Features
Troubleshooting:
- The PQMS displays warning and error messages to guide troubleshooting.
- A "Shut-down History" log records operational failures (excluding warnings) with timestamps.
- Common Issues and Solutions:
- Voltage Detection Errors (R, S, T phase): Check power supply voltage, input contacts (tighten if loose), and restart. If persistent, send for repair.
- Overvoltage/Under-voltage: Check input voltage range, monitor for surges, and ensure stable DC bus voltage.
- IGBT Over-temperature: Check ambient temperature, heat sink for foreign objects, fan operation, and ensure adequate ventilation.
- CT Wiring/Direction Errors: Verify CT wiring correctness, phase sequence, and ensure all CTs point in the same direction.
- Power Supply Phase-locking Failure: Check power supply voltage and main wiring frequency settings.
- Memory Circuit Error: Press RESET key to restore factory parameters. If unsuccessful, send for repair.
- Main Board Temperature Detection Circuit Error: Send for repair.
- Machine Startup Failure: Restart the machine. If persistent, contact Delta personnel.
Safety Precautions:
- Always ensure the power is off and wait at least 10 minutes for DC voltage to drop to 0V before any wiring or maintenance.
- Avoid touching internal circuit boards with bare hands due to electrostatic discharge risk.
- Do not modify internal components or circuits without authorization.
- Wear appropriate safety clothing, including insulated gloves and protective goggles, during installation and maintenance.
- Ensure proper grounding of the SVG to prevent electrical shock and fire hazards.
- Regularly clean the iron mesh at the air inlet to prevent clogging and maintain cooling efficiency.
- The device should not be stored powered off for more than one year. If stored for over 3 months, ensure ambient temperature is below 30°C to prevent electrolytic capacitor degradation.
Repair Records:
- The system allows recording up to 5 sets of repair items, including date and details.
Remote Monitoring:
- The device supports remote monitoring via Ethernet, requiring assistance from Delta factory personnel for setup.
By adhering to these guidelines, users can ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the Delta Static VAR Generator for optimal power quality management.
