Overview

The VFD-L series AC Drive is a compact and panel-installation drive manufactured by Delta Electronics, Inc. It is designed for variable frequency drive applications and incorporates high-quality components and the latest microprocessor technology.

Function Description:

The VFD-L AC Drive controls the speed and torque of AC motors by varying the frequency and voltage of the power supplied to them. It offers a comprehensive set of functions for various industrial automation needs, including:

  • Speed Control: Allows precise control over motor speed through various input sources such as digital keypad, analog voltage (0-10V), analog current (4-20mA), potentiometer, or RS-485 serial communication.
  • Multi-Step Speed and PLC Functionality: Supports multi-step speed commands, enabling the drive to operate at predefined frequencies. It also features an internal Process Logic Control (PLC) function, allowing users to program sequences of speeds and directions, eliminating the need for external controls, relays, or switches in many applications.
  • Acceleration/Deceleration Control: Provides adjustable acceleration and deceleration times (Taccel and Tdecel) to ensure smooth motor starts and stops. It also offers S-curve acceleration/deceleration options for even smoother transitions, and auto-acceleration/deceleration features for optimized performance.
  • Jog Operation: Enables temporary, low-speed operation for precise positioning or testing.
  • Braking Functions: Includes DC braking during start-up and stopping to reduce stopping time and hold loads in position. Dynamic braking resistors can be used for quicker decelerations with high inertial loads.
  • Communication: Equipped with a built-in RS-485 serial interface (RJ-11 Jack) for communication with a personal computer or other master devices using Modbus ASCII or RTU protocols. This allows for remote parameter setting and control.
  • Protection Functions: Features a comprehensive fault diagnostic system with various protective functions, including over-voltage, over-current, overheat, overload, external fault, CPU failure, hardware protection failure, and auto accel/decel failure. These functions help prevent damage to the drive and the motor.
  • Counter Function: Includes an internal counter that can be triggered by an external signal, useful for counting processing steps or units of material.
  • Output Functions: Provides multi-function output terminals that can be programmed to indicate various operational statuses such as desired frequency attained, maximum output frequency attained, zero speed, over-torque detection, base-block indication, low voltage indication, AC drive operation mode, fault indication, PLC program running/completed/paused, and terminal count value attained.

    • Tighten and reinforce screws to prevent loosening due to vibration or temperature changes.
    • Check conductors and insulators for corrosion and damage.
    • Measure insulation resistance with a Mega-ohmmeter.
    • Regularly check and replace capacitors and relays.
    • For extended periods of disuse, power on the drive for at least 5 hours every two years to confirm functionality before running a motor.
    • Clean dust and dirt from ventilation ports and PCBs using a vacuum cleaner to prevent unforeseen failures.
  • Fault Diagnostics: The drive's fault diagnostic system displays fault messages (e.g., OC, OV, OH, OL, EF, cF3, HPF, ocA, ocd, ocn, GF) on the digital keypad. The six most recent faults are recorded and can be viewed for troubleshooting. Faults can be cleared by a reset from the keypad or an input terminal.
