Overview

The Desoutter EFDS High Torque fixtured electric spindles are industrial tools designed for tightening or loosening joints in wood, metal, or plastic materials. They are intended for professional use only within an industrial environment.

Function Description:

The EFDS spindles are electric tools that provide high torque for various assembly applications. They are designed to be fixtured, suggesting integration into automated or semi-automated production lines. The tools operate in conjunction with a CVI3 controller, which requires the appropriate embedded program version for proper functionality. A key feature is the ability to rotate the connector by loosening two screws, allowing for flexible installation (as illustrated in Figure A). The cable should be plugged in with the help of the "TOP" indication (Figure B), and direct pulling on the cable should be avoided to prevent damage. The motor must be free of motion to enable accurate torque measurement, and the cable should not apply traction to the tool.

Important Technical Specifications:

The manual provides a range of models with varying torque capabilities and physical dimensions.

  • Model Series: EFDS80 and EFDS106.
  • Part Numbers: Ranging from 6151660330 to 6151660390.

    • Sound levels (LpA, LWA): < 70 dB(A).
    • Uncertainty (K / Kpa = KWA): 3 dB.

Usage Features:

The EFDS spindles are designed for precision and control in assembly tasks. They are equipped with thermal protection that will switch off operation if the tool reaches an excessively high temperature. Users are responsible for configuring the tool to operate within established maximum temperatures. The tool can reach high temperatures during use, necessitating protection for personnel from burns through physical barriers or appropriate warning symbols. The power cord should be positioned to avoid prolonged contact with the hottest part of the motor.

Optional accessories include various lengths of connecting cables (2.5m, 5m, 10m, 15m), extension cables (8m, 16m, 32m, 50m), and transducer holders for 3/4" and 1" square drives. Transducer kits and metallic protective cover kits are also available, indicating the modularity and adaptability of the system.

Maintenance Features:

Maintenance should only be performed by qualified personnel. Before any maintenance task, the tool must be disconnected, the controller switched off, and the cable disconnected.

  • Overhaul and Preventive Maintenance: Recommended annually or after a maximum of 1,000,000 tightenings for tools up to 950 Nm, or 500,000 tightenings for other tools, whichever occurs sooner.
  • Disassembly:
    • When disassembling tool electronics, care must be taken with wires when pulling out connectors.
    • When disassembling front assemblies, care must be taken with torque transducer wires.
    • Standard engineering practices and exploded views (provided in the manual) should be followed for mounting component subassemblies.
  • Reassembly:
    • Before returning the equipment to service, verify that main settings have not been modified and safety devices function correctly.
    • Pictograms guide reassembly tasks:
      • "Left hand thread" indicates the direction for tightening.
      • "When reassembling, apply the recommended glue" indicates where adhesive is needed.
      • "When reassembling, tighten to the required torque" specifies torque values.
      • "When reassembling, lubricate with the required grease or oil" indicates lubrication points.
  • Lubrication: A thin coat of grease is sufficient for gears or bearings; excessive application should be avoided.
  • Spare Parts: The manual includes detailed exploded views and lists of spare parts for both EFDS80 and EFDS106 models, categorized by component (e.g., output items, transducer kits, metallic protective cover kits, electronic board and cover items, gear ring items, nut ring kit, nut kit, gearbox items, sun coupling items, cable items, motor kit, cable connector items). This comprehensive listing facilitates easy identification and ordering of replacement parts.
  • Environmental Responsibility: The product is designed for recycling according to Directive 2012/19/CE (WEEE). Users are advised to contact their Desoutter representative or consult the website for recycling information. The use of non-original spare parts may lead to reduced performance, increased maintenance, higher vibration levels, and void the manufacturer's liability. When disposing of components or lubricants, relevant safety procedures must be followed.
