Function Description:

The DCE800 drywall sander features an articulating sanding head that can swivel in multiple directions. This allows the abrasive pad to conform to the work surface, enabling sanding of top, middle, and bottom of walls or ceiling joints without changing position. It is equipped with a variable speed control dial (numbered 1 through 7) for adjusting the speed from approximately 700 RPM (slowest) to 1200 RPM (fastest). Higher speeds are used for fast stock removal, while lower speeds provide more precise control. The sander also includes a No-volt function, which prevents restarting without cycling the switch if there is a power supply interruption.

Usage Features:

  • Battery System: The DCE800 uses 18V DEWALT Li-Ion battery packs (e.g., DCB181, DCB182, DCB183, DCB184, DCB185, DCB187, DCB189, DCB546, DCB547, DCB548).
  • Battery Installation/Removal: To install, align the battery pack with the rails inside the tool's handle and slide it in until it locks. To remove, press the release button and pull the battery pack out.
  • Fuel Gauge Battery Packs: Some battery packs feature a fuel gauge with three green LED lights indicating the remaining charge. Pressing the fuel gauge button illuminates these lights.
  • Sanding Disc Attachment: The sander uses 225 mm sanding discs that attach with hook and loop. To attach, turn the sander over, clean the sanding pad face, hold the pad to prevent rotation, and center the sanding disc directly on top.
  • Slider Switch: To start the tool, slide the ON/OFF slider switch toward the front. To stop, release the switch. For continuous operation, slide the switch forward and press its front part inward. To stop from continuous mode, press the rear part of the switch and release.
  • Brush-Type Skirt: A brush-type skirt surrounds the abrasive pad, preventing "gouging" the work and helping to contain drywall dust for extraction.
  • Expanding Main Tube: The main tube can be expanded to various lengths by releasing the tube expansion lever, extending the tube, and then closing the lever to lock it in place.
  • Dust Extraction: The sander is compatible with the DEWALT AirLock™ connection system for fast, secure connection to a dust extractor. The AirLock™ connector collar should be in the unlock position, aligned with the notches, pushed onto the adapter connector point, and then rotated to the locked position. The sleeve of the dust extraction port can be removed and replaced by the user if damaged.
  • Proper Hand Position: Requires one hand on the main handle and one hand on the main tube for maximum control.
  • Sanding Drywall: Position the sander lightly against the work surface, apply enough pressure to align the sanding head, then apply additional pressure to engage the abrasive pad. Move the sander in an overlapping pattern to smooth the drywall compound. Keep the sander in constant motion while the abrasive pad is in contact with the work surface to avoid swirl marks and unevenness. Avoid contact with sharp protrusions (nails, screws, electrical boxes) to prevent damage to the abrasive pad.
  • Sanding Paint: Observe applicable regulations for sanding paint, especially lead-based paint. Use a vacuum extractor for dust collection, keep children and pregnant women out of the work area, wear a mask, and dispose of debris safely.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Maintenance: The power tool is designed for long-term operation with minimum maintenance. Regular cleaning and proper tool care are essential.
  • Cleaning: Blow dirt and dust out of the main housing with dry air as often as dirt is seen collecting in and around the air vents. Wear approved eye protection and a dust mask. Never use solvents or harsh chemicals for cleaning non-metallic parts. Use a cloth dampened with water and mild soap for exterior cleaning; never immerse any part of the tool in liquid.
  • Lubrication: The power tool requires no additional lubrication.
  • Charger Maintenance: DEWALT chargers require no adjustment. Do not operate a charger with a damaged cord or plug, or if it has received a sharp blow or been damaged. Do not disassemble the charger; take it to an authorized service center for service or repair. Disconnect the charger from the outlet before cleaning.
  • Battery Pack Care: Do not charge or use batteries in explosive atmospheres. Never force a battery pack into a non-compatible charger. Charge only with DEWALT chargers. Do not splash or immerse in water. Store battery packs at room temperature (4–40 °C). Do not incinerate battery packs. If battery contents contact skin or eyes, wash immediately with soap and water or rinse with water for 15 minutes, and seek medical attention if irritation persists. Never attempt to open a battery pack. Do not crush, drop, or damage battery packs. Do not store or carry battery packs where metal objects can contact exposed terminals.
  • Environmental Protection: Products and batteries marked with the separate collection symbol must not be disposed of with normal household waste. They contain recyclable materials. Recycle electrical products and batteries according to local provisions.
  • Rechargeable Battery Pack Disposal: When a battery pack no longer produces sufficient power, run it down completely, remove it from the tool, and take it to a dealer or local recycling station. Li-Ion cells are recyclable.
