Do you have a question about the dicodes Yog's E-PIPE and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Yog's E-PIPE one, powered by dicodes, is an electronically controlled device designed for use with various atomizers up to 23mm in size. It operates on a single 18650 Li-ion rechargeable battery and offers a maximum output power of 60W. The device supports temperature-controlled vaping with a variety of wire materials, including nickel, titanium, and stainless steel, alongside four distinct operating modes. A notable feature is its magnetically removable OLED display and a sophisticated spring-loaded center pole made of copper beryllium. The E-PIPE one boasts an intuitive, timed menu system controlled by a touch sensor.

Function Description

The E-PIPE one is capable of controlling a heating coil with up to 60W of continuous power. While it can deliver 60W, the manual recommends using the device in temperature-controlled or boost mode to minimize the risk of excessively high vapor temperatures. These modes also enhance the flavor, as a quick heat-up phase at high power is followed by a lower power setting to maintain temperature, even with large coils.

The device features a self-calibrating touch sensor. Upon battery insertion, the sensor calibrates itself within the first 15 seconds, during which the fire button should not be touched. The removable OLED display provides important information, either continuously during vaping (if display-mode=cont) or for 4 seconds after vaping. If the display is removed, vaping continues with the last set values, but accidental adjustments are blocked. The display shows temperature during a vape in temperature-controlled mode, or a battery symbol in other modes. It also indicates wattage (or actual power in Direct-Mode/Bypass), battery voltage during the vape (including voltage drop), and coil resistance (including temperature-dependent increase).

The E-PIPE one offers five operating modes, though three are only accessible when "Expert Mode" is enabled. The default modes are "Power" (0) and "Temperature Controlled Vaping" (1). When Expert Mode is activated, "Heater Protection" (2), "Power Boost" (3), and "Bypass" (4, mechanical mod) modes become available.

In Power Mode (0), the selected wattage is applied to the coil, limited by a maximum voltage of 10V or a maximum current of 18A, depending on coil resistance. This ensures that the electronics operate within safe limits.

Temperature Controlled Vaping (1) regulates the coil temperature to a preset value. It's crucial to set the power high enough to reach the desired temperature; otherwise, the device will switch to a temperature-limiting mode. This mode requires a correct reference measurement (TempCal Init) for precise temperature control. The device measures coil resistance at room temperature (20°C) as a reference. It's recommended to perform a calibration whenever a new atomizer is connected. Users can select various wire types (NiFe30, Nickel200, Titanium, Tungsten, Stainless Steel) or define a custom temperature coefficient for "other" wires.

Heater Protection Mode (2), available in Expert Mode, periodically interrupts the power supply. The length and spacing of these interruptions are set via the "Heater Prot" parameter in the Extended Functions menu. This helps prevent fluid flow breakdown and excessive temperature rise.

Power Boost Mode (3), also in Expert Mode, applies an initial short-term high-power pulse to the coil for quick heating. Further options allow for a periodic boost pulse of varying length and repetition rate, which can cause the coil temperature to constantly exceed a certain range, addressing different flavors in the liquid. When using periodic boost, it's recommended to set the normal power significantly lower, as the boosts increase the average power and temperature.

Bypass Mode (4), the mechanical mod mode, directly switches the battery voltage to the heating coil. In this mode, the power depends solely on battery voltage and coil resistance. An error message (Err8 LowR) is displayed if the coil resistance is too low. It's important to design coils with appropriate resistance to avoid quickly reaching the 20A limit, as the vaping result depends on the battery's state of charge.

The device also includes an "Error Menu" that displays error numbers and short descriptions if a problem occurs. These errors include "OvrVolt" (input voltage too high), "ChkAtom" (no atomizer detected or open coil), "TempRef" (temperature reference measurement problem), "OverCur" (short-circuit or coil interruption), "LowBat" (battery voltage reached minimum), "EleHot" (electronics overheated), "TimeOut" (maximum draw time exceeded), and "LowR" (coil resistance too low in bypass mode).

Usage Features

The E-PIPE one's menu structure is versatile, allowing for individual user preference selection. The "Main Menu" provides access to core functions like power adjustment, temperature settings, and coil calibration. The "Extended Functions Menu" offers more advanced settings, grouped into "Heater Menu" (coil-related settings), "Mod Menu" (individual use and appearance settings), and "Value Menu" (vaping statistics).

The "Battery Status" display provides information on battery voltage at low current drain (Ub0) and under load during the last puff (UbL), as well as the voltage drop (dU). An additional function allows users to evaluate battery and system contact quality by displaying battery source resistance (Rb) and voltage drop (dU) with increased accuracy.

Users can manually switch off the device, in addition to the automatic switch-off function. It's recommended to switch off the device before changing the battery to ensure statistics counters are saved. To switch off, the user waits for "0" to be displayed inverted and then presses the key. After an active manual switch-off, the device can only be switched on by pressing the key five times briefly. The "On-Clicks" menu item allows selection of the number of key presses required to switch on the device (0 to 5 clicks), with 0 providing immediate steam readiness. A safety function is built in to prevent accidental activation during transport if "on-clicks" is low and a timeout error occurs.

The "Value Menu" provides various statistics, including "Cycles" (number of puffs since last reset), "Time" (pure vaping time since last reset), "Energy" (energy taken from battery since last reset), and "BatCap" (battery capacitance since last reset). These counters can be reset. Additionally, "TotCycl" (total lifetime puffs) and "TotTime" (total lifetime vaping time) are displayed, which are not resettable.

Maintenance Features

For real wood battery carriers, the E-PIPE one requires specific care. The wood is oiled and polished with Carnauba wax before shipping, but this layer may diminish with frequent use.

Option 1 (Quick care) involves removing the display, vaporizer, and battery cover. A small drop of household olive oil is applied to a cotton cloth and gently rubbed onto the pipe body. Care must be taken to prevent oil from entering the atomizer connection or battery compartment.

Option 2 (Intensive care, only for extreme patina) also requires removing the display, vaporizer, and battery cover. A 600-1000 abrasive fleece is used to carefully remove patina, with all stainless steel parts taped off (preferably with transparent adhesive tape). After removing the patina, the pipe is gently rubbed with a cotton cloth and a small drop of household olive oil, again ensuring no oil enters critical connections.
